This study was carried out to compare the performance of two types of sequencing batch biofilm reactors (SBBRs), anoxic-oxic-anoxic-oxic $(AO)_2$ SBBR and anoxic-oxic-anoxic $A_2O$ SBBR, on the biological nutrient removal. The TOC removal efficiency in $A_2O$ SBBR was higher than that in $(AO)_2$ SBBR. At the 1st non-aeration period, the release of ${PO_4}^{3-}-P$ in $A_2O$ SBBR was higher than that in $(AO)_2$ SBBR because of the high TOC removal. At the 1st aeration-period, the nitrification was not completed in $(AO)_2$ SBBR, however, it was completed in $A_2O$ SBBR and the nitrification rate in $A_2O$ SBBR was higher than that in $(AO)_2$ SBBR. The release and uptake of ${PO_4}^{3-}-P$ in $A_2O$ SBBR was much higher than in $(AO)_2$ SBBR. Also, the profiles of DO and pH in reactors were used to monitor the biological nutrient removal in two SBBRs. The break point in DO and pH curves at the aeration period coincided with the end of nitrification.

Ion exchange fibers, high functionalized onto hybrid polyolefine fiber's surface, were synthesized by $\gamma-ray$ mutual radiation. Degree of grafting (DG) of copolymer increased with increasing GMA monomer concentration and the maximum rate of DG was 355% at 50 GMA. The graft reaction occurred in polar solvent and DG was 190% maximum value in $1.0\times10^{-3}$ Mohr's salt and 0.1 M sulfuric acid, respectively. The amination for graft copolymers varied depending on amine reagents, and the reactivity for copolymers was highest for methylamine, and that of triethylamine lowest. It was shown that water uptake and ion exchange capacities increased with increase in the rate of amination while surface area decreased rapidly as proceeding for graft reaction and amination.
Using piston type extruder, barley flour was extruded at various processing conditions, The used variables were three shear rates (apparent shear rate 118, 534, $1169sec^{-1}$), four extrusion temperatures(90, 120, 150, $180^{\circ}C$) and three moisture contents (15, 25, 35%). The rheological properties and the extrudate quality were monitored in extrusion. Barley flour showed pseudoplastic behavior having average power law index 0.28 in used shear rate range. When viewed from general appearance, die swell, density, water uptake, rehydration swell and gelatinization degree of extrudate, $25{\sim}35%$ moisture and $120^{\circ}C$ temperature was suitable processing condition for noodle-like product, and 25% moisture and $150^{\circ}C$ temperature was good for snack or flake product. Moisture content of the extrudate can be pretty well estimated from energy balance at higher temperature and higher moisture content.
Tamsulosin has been frequently used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. To avoid dose-dependent side effects of tamsulosin upon oral administration, the development of sustained-release delivery system is required, that can maintain therapeutic drug levels for a longer period of time. The aim of this study was therefore to formulate sustained-release tamsulosin matrix tablets and assess their formulation variables. We designed enteric coated sustained-release tamsulosin matrices to fulfill above statement. Aqueous microchannels in the enteric film need to be formed in order to obtain tamsulosin release even in an acidic environment such as gastric region. In the sustained-release tamsulosin matrix, low viscosity hydroxypropylmethylcellulose was used as a rate controller. Povidone K30 was also added to the matrices to facilitate water uptake so that a decrease in the release rate of tamsulosin as time elapses was prevented, possibly leading to pseudo zero-order release of the drug. The matrices were enteric-coated with hydroxypropylmethylcellulose phthalate (HPMCP), along with povidone K30 as an aqueous microchannel former. With the aqueous microchannels formed within the enteric film, tamsulosin could be released in an acidic condition. The release of tamsulosin decreased with increasing thickness of HPMCP membrane while the release rates of tamsulosin from those having different HPMCP thickness in pH 7.2 aqueous media were not considerably different, indicating that the enteric film was promptly dissolved at pH 7.2. These results clearly suggest that the sustained-release oral delivery system for tamsulosin could be designed with satisfying drug release profile approved by the KFDA.
Lipoxygenase-deficient soybeans, Jinpumkong (lipoxygenase-2, 3 lacking) and Jinpumkong 2 (lipoxygenase-1, 2, 3 lacking), were breeded for the improvement of beany flavor problem. The objectives of this study were to characterize and to examine the storage stability of two lipoxygenase-deficient soybeans by comparing with Hwangkeumkong having high lipoxygenase activity. The crude protein and crude lipid content of Jinpumkong 2 were lower than those of Hwkangkeumkong and Jimpumkong. All soybean samples were middle-sized and yellow-coated seeds. The rate of water uptake and trypsin inhibitor activity of Jinpumkong were greater than those of others. The cooking rate of Hwangkeumkong was the highest among all. The lipoxygenase activity of Hwangkeumkong was decreased when the soybeans were stored at $40^{\circ}C$ for 96hrs at 90% RH which is the condition of accelerated aging. After accelerated aging, the germination ratio of Hwangkeumkong was not changed but the ratio and speed of germination dropped rapidly in Jinpumkong and Jinpumkong 2.

The change in physical properties of polypropylene nonwoven fabrics used as top sheet for disposable sanitary goods was carried out using chitosan that is a type of natural polymer and has excellent human affinity by varying the molecular weight and concentration of chitosan. Low molecular weight(LMW) chitosan treated fabrics were found to be evenly coated on fabrics and had better dyeability by apparent dye uptake and its deodorization rate increased over the time. On the other hand, high molecular weight(HMW) chitosan treated fabrics showed higher add-on ratio and its dynamic water absorption rate and represented an increase in water transport rate. With chitosan treatment, its air permeability was improved. Regardless of the type of bacteria and chitosan concentration, its antibacterial activity was excellent in the case of the HMW chitosan treatment. In this regard, chitosan treatments by using a relatively high molecular weight was found as an effective way in the functional improvement of moisture properties and antibacterial activity including their most important performance in sanitary nonwoven fabrics.
This study was conducted to investigate the effects of different levels and types of nitrogen fertilizer on seedlings and soil chemical properties in a semi-arid area, Mongolia. 2-year-old Populus sibirica and 4-year-old Ulmus pumila seedlings were planted in May 2014. Six treatments with three levels of nitrogen (low-level: urea $5g\;tree^{-1}$; medium-level: urea $15g\;tree^{-1}$, ammonium sulfate $33g\;tree^{-1}$, urea $15g\;tree^{-1}$ with potassium phosphate $10g\;tree^{-1}$; high-level: urea $30g\;tree^{-1}$) were applied and for the medium-level of nitrogen, different types of fertilizer were treated. Survival rate, root collar diameter (RCD) growth rate, leaf nitrogen concentration of seedlings, and soil chemical properties were determined in August 2014. The seedling survival rate of both species decreased as the level of nitrogen increased. This result can be explained by water stress caused by nitrogen fertilization in arid regions. The RCD growth rate of P. sibirica was significantly decreased by the treatment of high-level of nitrogen due to excessive nitrogen fertilization, and was increased by the treatment of ammonium sulfate due to sulfur which might promote nitrogen uptake. The leaf nitrogen concentration of P. sibirica did not change by the treatment of low-level of nitrogen, and was increased by the treatment of medium-level of nitrogen. There were no significant differences in the RCD growth rate and the leaf nitrogen concentration of U. pumila among the six treatments. None of soil chemical properties was affected by nitrogen fertilization. Overall, the low-level of nitrogen showed no effect on seedlings and soil chemical properties, except on survival rate of U. pumila and the high-level of nitrogen was considered excessive fertilization. Continuous monitoring of medium-level nitrogen fertilization including the ammonium sulfate, which increased early growth of seedlings, would be needed to elucidate the effect of fertilization on seedling growth and soil properties in a semi-arid region.
The endeavors enhancing the grain quality of high-yielding japonica rice were steadily continued during 1980s-1990s along with the self-sufficiency of rice production and the increasing demands of high-quality rices. During this time, considerably great progress and success was obtained in development of high-quality japonica cultivars and quality evaluation techniques including the elucidation of interrelationship between the physicochemical properties of rice grain and the physical or palatability components of cooked rice. In 1990s, some high-quality japonica rice cultivars and special rices adaptable for food processing such as large kernel, chalky endosperm, aromatic and colored rices were developed and its objective preference and utility was also examined by a palatability meter, rapid-visco analyzer and texture analyzer, Recently, new special rices such as extremely low-amylose dull or opaque non-glutinous endosperm mutants were developed. Also, a high-lysine rice variety was developed for higher nutritional utility. The water uptake rate and the maximum water absorption ratio showed significantly negative correlations with the K/Mg ratio and alkali digestion value(ADV) of milled rice. The rice materials showing the higher amount of hot water absorption exhibited the larger volume expansion of cooked rice. The harder rices with lower moisture content revealed the higher rate of water uptake at twenty minutes after soaking and the higher ratio of maximum water uptake under the room temperature condition. These water uptake characteristics were not associated with the protein and amylose contents of milled rice and the palatability of cooked rice. The water/rice ratio (in w/w basis) for optimum cooking was averaged to 1.52 in dry milled rices (12% wet basis) with varietal range from 1.45 to 1.61 and the expansion ratio of milled rice after proper boiling was average to 2.63(in v/v basis). The major physicochemical components of rice grain associated with the palatability of cooked rice were examined using japonica rice materials showing narrow varietal variation in grain size and shape, alkali digestibility, gel consistency, amylose and protein contents, but considerable difference in appearance and texture of cooked rice. The glossiness or gross palatability score of cooked rice were closely associated with the peak, hot paste and consistency viscosities of viscosities with year difference. The high-quality rice variety "IIpumbyeo" showed less portion of amylose on the outer layer of milled rice grain and less and slower change in iodine blue value of extracted paste during twenty minutes of boiling. This highly palatable rice also exhibited very fine net structure in outer layer and fine-spongy and well-swollen shape of gelatinized starch granules in inner layer and core of cooked rice kernel compared with the poor palatable rice through image of scanning electronic microscope. Gross sensory score of cooked rice could be estimated by multiple linear regression formula, deduced from relationship between rice quality components mentioned above and eating quality of cooked rice, with high probability of determination. The $\alpha$-amylose-iodine method was adopted for checking the varietal difference in retrogradation of cooked rice. The rice cultivars revealing the relatively slow retrogradation in aged cooked rice were IIpumbyeo, Chucheongyeo, Sasanishiki, Jinbubyeo and Koshihikari. A Tonsil-type rice, Taebaegbyeo, and a japonica cultivar, Seomjinbyeo, showed the relatively fast deterioration of cooked rice. Generally, the better rice cultivars in eating quality of cooked rice showed less retrogradation and much sponginess in cooled cooked rice. Also, the rice varieties exhibiting less retrogradation in cooled cooked rice revealed higher hot viscosity and lower cool viscosity of rice flour in amylogram. The sponginess of cooled cooked rice was closely associated with magnesium content and volume expansion of cooked rice. The hardness-changed ratio of cooked rice by cooling was negatively correlated with solids amount extracted during boiling and volume expansion of cooked rice. The major physicochemical properties of rice grain closely related to the palatability of cooked rice may be directly or indirectly associated with the retrogradation characteristics of cooked rice. The softer gel consistency and lower amylose content in milled rice revealed the higher ratio of popped rice and larger bulk density of popping. The stronger hardness of rice grain showed relatively higher ratio of popping and the more chalky or less translucent rice exhibited the lower ratio of intact popped brown rice. The potassium and magnesium contents of milled rice were negatively associated with gross score of noodle making mixed with wheat flour in half and the better rice for noodle making revealed relatively less amount of solid extraction during boiling. The more volume expansion of batters for making brown rice bread resulted the better loaf formation and more springiness in rice breed. The higher protein rices produced relatively the more moist white rice bread. The springiness of rice bread was also significantly correlated with high amylose content and hard gel consistency. The completely chalky and large grain rices showed better suitability far fermentation and brewing. The glutinous rice were classified into nine different varietal groups based on various physicochemical and structural characteristics of endosperm. There was some close associations among these grain properties and large varietal difference in suitability to various traditional food processing. Our breeding efforts on improvement of rice quality for high palatability and processing utility or value-adding products in the future should focus on not only continuous enhancement of marketing and eating qualities but also the diversification in morphological, physicochemical and nutritional characteristics of rice grain suitable for processing various value-added rice foods.ice foods.
This study is to compare irrigation efficiency between sap flow sensor automated system (SF) and conventional irrigation system based on integrated solar radiation automated system (ISR) in tomato rockwool hydroponics. Total irrigated volumes was higher in the ISR system by 5.0L per plant, a lower drainage rate was found in the SF system, compared to the ISR system. There was no difference in shoot and fruit fresh weights, water use efficiency (WUE) and water amount consumed for producing 200g of tomato fruit. The daily average sap flow density (SFD) was closer to the change of solar irradiance (SI) in the plant grown under the SF system, compared to the ISR system. The correlation coefficient (r2) between the fruit diameter and the volumetric water content during the 56 and 82 days after transplant showed the SF treatment was higher than the ISR at night and daytime, and the correlation was higher at night time. The sap flow density and humidity deficit (HD) of SF treatment was related as closely as the solar irradiance. Further studies should demonstrate that SF irrigation system is a convenient method for hydroponic farmers with advantages, such as growth, higher yield, WUE, and accuracy.
This study was carried out to investigate the effects of changes of ionic strength according to growth stage on growth and flowering of Dendranthema grandiflorum (Ramat.) Kitamura 'Seiun' grown hydroponically in perlite. The stage I, II, and III covered early vegetative growth (27-40 days after planting), latter vegetative growth (41-54 days), and reproductive growth (55-80 days), respectively. The 2 strength (1S and 2S) of nutrient solution were treated in stage I, whereas 3 strengths (1S, 1-2S, and 2S) were treated in stage II. Then, total 9 treatments in stage III were designated by 3 treatments (tap water, 1S, and 2S) for each 3 strengths in stage II. Each nutrient solution was applied 8 times per day. At vegetative growth stage (54 days after planting), stem length was highest when irrigated 8 times a day with 1S nutrient solution. Both photosynthesis and transpiration rate were higher in 1S than those in other treatments (1-2S, 2S), whereas leaf chlorophyll content was highest in 2S treatment. Ion content of plant treated with 2S was higher than other treatments. Growth (plant height, leaf area, stem length), fresh weight, and dry weight of each plant organ after flower bud formation were better in tap water treatment (1-1-0) than other 1S treatments (1-1-1, 1-1-2). Regarding the number of days to flowering, tap water treatment was the most effective. Thus, after flower bud formation supplying tap water or lower concentration of nutrient solution than those used during the vegetative growth stage was economical in saving chemical fertilizers, shortening the number of days to flowering, reducing salt accumulation in media, saving efforts of leaching, and reducing ground water contamination.
