  • The present experimental study is aimed to investigate the flow characteristics of the high-speed flow field within hot-water pump by PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry). As multi-point simultaneous velocity acquisition, 2-D PIV system based upon the two-frame gray-level cross correlation method is adopted using PC frame-grabber and simple video system. Gated image intensifier CCD Camera to cope with illumination problem is arranged for accurate PIV measurement of high-speed complex flow. The velocity vector distribution, velocity profile, and kinetic energy are represented quantitatively at the full-scale region for the deeper understanding of the unsteady flow characteristics in a pump.

  • The observations of rapid motion of bubbles under water for approximately 50ms or less in high . magnetic fields of 10 T have been carried out successfully for the first time. The observation system constructed is composed of a high-speed video camera, a telescope, a cryostat with a split-type superconducting magnet, a light source, a mirror and a transparent sample cell. Using this system, the influence of magnetic field on the path and shape of single bubbles of $O_2$(paramagnetism) and $N_2$ (diamagnetism) has been examined carefully. Experimental values describing the path are in good agreement with theoretical values calculated on the basis of the magneto-Archimedes effect, despite the effect of magnetism on the bubble. However, no effect of magnetism on the shape of the bubble is observed In addition, the influence of magnetic field on drag coefficient of the bubble is discussed.

  • In this investigation work, liquid-liquid extraction (L.L.E) through three distinctive frameworks have been examined for assurance of slip velocity (S.V), and characteristic velocity (C.V) in a non-center rotating column (N.C.R.C) with a wide extend of factors. Three double frameworks with distinctive interfacial tension comprising of toluene-water (high interfacial tension), n-butyl acetate-water (medium interfacial tension), and n-butanol-water (low interfacial tension) were investigated for tests. Two common relationships for the expectation of S.V and C.V, including phase stream rates, rotor speed, column geometry additionally physical properties, are displayed. The recommended relationships were compared with test information gotten from the writing and the display examination. Findings of this study, the present proposed correlations are more accurate than those previously reported.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the performance of a medium scale rice polisher of 2.5 t/h and to improve its performance for producing the clean rice with high quality. The maximum internal pressure, broken rice ratio. whiteness in the rice polisher were investigated, and the effects of outlet resistance, water spraying rate, shaft revolution speed and rice moisture content on the polishing performance were analyzed to find out proper operating conditions. The conclusions of this study were as follows: 1. In the performance evaluation of the polisher, the broken rice ratio increment of 0.1%, the max. internal pressure of about 11 N/${cm}^2$, and whiteness increment of 2.2~3.7 resulted at the conditions of 20 PS driving power, 950 rpm, 150 cc/min water spraying rate, 44.1 Nㆍcm outlet resistance and about 15% rice moisture content. 2. Though max. internal pressure and whiteness at the 17% rice moisture content were higher than those at the 15% moisture content under the same operating conditions of the polisher, but the broken rice rate at the 17% moisture content was absolutely low compared with that at 15% moisture content. The water spraying effect to reduce broken rice and to increase whiteness was much significant at the 15% moisture content not significant at 17% moisture content. 3. The main parameter of the performance was outlet resistance, and low resistance of about 44.1 Nㆍcm was recommended at the polisher. 4. The proper water spraying rate in the polisher was about 150 cc/min. 5. As the shaft revolution speed decreased from 950 rpm and 800 rpm to 650 rpm, the broken rice ratio increased and whiteness decreased. 6. As the driving power of the polisher increased from 20 PS to 30 PS, the max. internal pressure decreased by about 1~2.5 N/${cm}^2$ and whiteness increased by about 1~2, but the broken rice rate was not changed. 7. The proper operating conditions of the polisher seemed to be the revolution speed of 800-950 rpm, the water spraying rate of about 150 cc/min, the oulet resistance of about 44.1 N.cm and 30 PS driving power.

  • Water injection pump outputs oil with high pressure during this process, seawater is injected into the well to recover the well pressure and maintain high productivity. A water injection pump has high productivity, and therefore, it serves as a key piece of equipment in marine plants. In this light, water injection pumps are being studied widely in industry. In this study, the rotor dynamics is analyzed to determine the natural frequency according to the bearing stiffness and operation speed change. This study aims to establish the pump reliability through critical speed, stability, and unbalance response analysis.

  • Purpose: In recent years, guided implant surgery has been widely used for the convenience of patients and surgeons. Further streamlining the surgical procedure would make implant surgery more convenient. Low-speed water-free conditions are often used in guided implant surgery. Therefore, in this study, we attempted to confirm once again whether drilling was safe at a low speed without water. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate whether a simplified drilling protocol that omits some intermediate steps in the drilling process was safe from the viewpoint of heat generation. Methods: D1 density artificial bone blocks were drilled under 50 rpm, 10 N·cm water-free conditions, and the surface temperature was measured using a digital infrared camera. First, drilling was performed with the sequential drilling method, which is the most widely used technique. Second, for each drill diameter, the temperature change was measured while performing simplified drilling with omission of the previous 1, 2, or 3 steps. Results: In sequential drilling, the heat generated during drilling at all diameters was less than the critical temperature of osteonecrosis (47℃) except for the ⌀2 drill. Statistical significance was observed in all groups when comparing sequential and simplified drilling in the ⌀3.2, ⌀3.8, and ⌀4.3 drills (P<0.001). However, in the simplified drilling procedures, the temperature was below the osteonecrosis threshold temperature (47℃) except for the ⌀4.3 drill with the omission of the previous 3 steps (⌀3.0, ⌀3.2, and ⌀3.8). Conclusions: In general, drilling under low-speed, water-free conditions has shown stable results in terms of heat generation. Simplified drilling showed statistically significantly greater heat generation than sequential drilling. However, most of the diameters and omitted steps seem to be clinically acceptable, so it will be useful if an appropriate selection is made according to the patient's clinical condition.

  • The amount of evapotranspiration (water absorption) according to wind speed showed the same trend in gold mound (Spiraea × bumalda), Japanese spurge (Pachysandra terminalis), and ivy (Hedera japonica Tobler). All the three plants showed maximum water absorption at 4 m·s-1; water absorption tended to decrease as wind speed decreased. The control group without wind speed treatment had the most amount of water absorption compared with the groups that were subjected to wind exposure. However, the plant growth of all three plants increased to the maximum value when wind speeds were 2 and 1 m·s-1. When comparing the relationship among water absorption, air temperature, and relative humidity, the water absorption of plants tended to be low from May 20 to 26, when air temperature and relative humidity were the lowest. The results of this study will help establish an urban wall-planting system taking building wind into consideration. Further, this study may help in the selection of plant types for ecological parks in windy islands.

  • Compressible two-phase flow is analyzed based on the arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) formulation. For water, Tamman type stiffened equation of state is used. Numerical fluxes are calculated using the ALE two-phase Godunov scheme which assumes only that the speed of sound and pressure can be provided whenever density and internal energy are given. Effects of the approximations of a material interface speed are Investigated h method Is suggested to assign a rigid body boundary condition effectively To validate the developed code, several well-known problems are calculated and the results are compared with analytic or other numerical solutions including a single material Sod shock tube problem and a gas/water shock tube problem The code is applied to analyze the refraction and transmission of shock waves which are impacting on a water-gas interface from gas or water medium.

  • As the wave impinges on and overtops the structure, a large highly aerated region is created in front of the structure and water splashs on top of the structure. The broken wave in front of the structure and associated green water on top of the structure are highly aerated containing not only a large number of bubbles but also very large sizes of bubbles. In this paper, the velocity field of the highly aerated region and the splashing water on the top is measured using a modified PIV method incorporating the traditional PIV method with the shadowgraphy technigue by correlating the ' texture ' of the bubble images. The velocity fields of a plunging wave impacting on a structure in a two-dimensional wave flume is measured. It is found that the maximum fluid particle velocity in flout of the structure during the impinging process is about 1.5 times the phase speed of the wave, while the maximum horizontal velocity above the top is less than the phase speed, It is also found that the dam breaking solution does not work well in predicting the green water velocity.

  • Today's size of production operations in the packaging paper sector I sconstantly increasing , featuring integral processing systems, high-speed paper machines, and the increased marketing of lower basis weight products. The risk factors involved in these large investments lie more than ever in the available furnish potential and ongoing requirements for further closure of water loops and lower operating costs. A comparison is drawn between recovered paper furnish mixtures used in European mills with regard to fibre properties, strength potential and contaminant content, Both the furnish situation and development trends in modern fluting and testliner machines are instigating concept changes in stock preparation, the approach flow as well as in process water and rejects technology. Developments are currently focussed for example on more efficient debris separation using fine slotted screening, optimized refining , more systematic process water management with loop separation and integral water clarification as well as more efficient removal of microstickies, fillers and fines through appropriate combination of rejects handling and water clarification processes. Product quality differentiation depends decisively on strength characteristics as a function of refining , fines removal , paper machine technology, and sizing . Maximum availability of today's high speed paper machines and , as a result, cost effective production can be ensured by optimum balancing of all subsystems with in the overall concept and by reliable control of problems with contaminants and deposits.
