  • In this study, develop the thermal pump using water evaporation and condensation. Vapor from heating room moves up to pumping room and press the water of pumping room. Consequently water is pumped out to water tank. Then hot vapor direct contact with cold water in condensing room after pumping process. At this time, pressure of condensing room is down to-5kPa and suck in water of tank. This pump executes self ping and good durability because of no mechanical moving parts. Thermal pump is pumped cyclic so that, this pump is not used single. Therefore thermal pump of hot water boiler used to multi-stage for stable pumping rate. As the result of performance test, the developed thermal pump proves pumping action of water evaporation/condensation. And total volume flow rate is 500liter during one hour. If three thermal pump is installed parallel, this pump can use to the hot water boiler in the 300,000kcal/h class.

  • This study introduced a method of estimating water surface evaporation using the physical-based Penman combination equation (PCE) and the Penman wind function (PWF). A set of regression parameters in the PCE and PWF models were optimized by using the observed evaporation data for the period 2016-2017 in the Yongdam Dam watershed, and their effectiveness was explored. The estimated evaporation over the Deokyu Mountain flux tower demonstrated that the PWF method appears to have more improved results in terms of correlation, but both methods showed overestimation. Further, the PWF method was applied to the observed hydro-meteorological data on the surface of Yongdam Lake. The PWF method outperformed the PCE in the estimation of water surface evaporation in terms of goodness-of-fit measure and visual evaluation. Future studies will focus on a regionalization process which can be effective in estimating water surface evaporation for the ungauged area by linking hydrometeorological characteristics and regression parameters.

  • Evaporation is an essential parameter in Global water-energy cycle and the variability of evaporation affects water resources planning and managements. In this study, the temporal variability of pan evaporation data was analyzed and trend analysis of the data using Mann-Kendall test. The relationships among evaporation and rainfall, air temperature, humidity, cloudness were analyzed. Even though the longterm trends of air temperature and rainfall increases, that of evaporation except Jinju and Yeosoo results decreases as worldwide observations. Results demonstrate that decrease of pan evaporation represents increase of terrestrial evaporation as Brutsaert and Parlange(1998)'s analysis.

  • The return of water to the atmosphere from water, soil and vegetation surface is one of the most important aspects of hydrological cycle, and the seasonal trend of variation of river basin evaporation is also meaningful in the longterm runoff analysis for the irrigation and water resources planning. This paper has been prepared to show some imformation to estimate the monthly river basin evaporation from pan evaporation, potential evaporation, regional evaporation and temperature through the comparison with river basin evaporation derived from water budget method. The analysis has been carried out with the observation data of Yongdam station in the Geum river basin for five year. The results are summarized as follows and these would be applied to the estimation of river basin evaporation and longterm runoff in ungaged station. 1. The ratio of pan evaporation to river basin evaporation ($E_w/E_{pan}$) shows the most- significant relation at the viewpoint of seasonal trend of variation. River basin evaporation could be estimated from the pan evaporation through either Fig. 9 or Table-7. 2. Local coefficients of cloudness effect and wind function has been determined to apply the Penman's mass and energy transfer equation to the estimation of river basin evaporation. $R_c=R_a(0.13+0.52n/D)$ $E=0.35(e_s-e)(1.8+1.0U)$ 3. It seems that Regional evaporation concept $E_R=(1-a)R_C-E_p$ has kept functional errors due to the inapplicable assumptions. But it is desirable that this kind of function which contains the results of complex physical, chemical and biological processes of river basin evaporation should be developed. 4. Monthly river basin evaporation could be approximately estimated from the monthly average temperature through either the equation of $E_w=1.44{\times}1.08^T$ or Fig. 12 in the stations with poor climatological observation data.

  • Evaporation heat transfer characteristics by pulsating flow in a plate heat exchanger have been investigated experimentally in this study. R-l34a is evaporated by receiving heat from the hot water in the plate heat exchanger. The pulsating frequency in refrigerant side of the plate heat exchanger is varied in the range of 5-25 Hz. The operating pressure of R-l34a and mass flux of hot water are also varied 0.6-0.9 MPa and $45-105 kg/m^2s$, respectively. The experimental results indicate that evaporation heat transfer coefficient of pulsating flow is improved up to 6.3% compared with that of the steady flow at 10 Hz and $G_w=45 kg/m^2s$. It is also found that the evaporation heat transfer enhancement ratio is decreased with an increase in mass flux of hot water, and the evaporation heat transfer enhancement is little influenced by operating pressure of R-l34a.

  • An experimental study is presented for water droplet impingement on a steel surface in the process of heat treatment. The objective of the present work is to examine characteristic of evaporation cooling due to surface roughness and droplet diameter under conductive heat input condition. The surface temperatures varied from $80{\sim}155^{\circ}C$, surface roughness was from $R_a=0.12{\mu}m$ to $R_a=1.14{\mu}m$ and droplet diameter was from 2.4 mm to 3.0 mm. The results show that the total evaporation time is shorter for the larger surface roughness and the smaller droplet size, the time average heat flux has maximum value for the larger surface roughness and the smaller droplet size. The total evaporation time has not influence on the nuclear boiling region.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the conception of elementary school students on evaporation and condensation, and then to verify the types of the conception. Forty-eight children from six elementary schools were sampled by stratified random sampling in Seoul and other provinces. They responded to the questionaire and the interview. This study was carried out according to the process of the basic study, the preliminary study, and the main study. The materials collected were classified and analyzed according to the types of children's ideas. The findings of this study were as follows. 1. The vocabulary used to describe the evaporation phenomena varied according to the situations, and the scientific term "evaporation" was more frequently used by the older groups. 2. Most children answered that the last location of water were air/sky/cloud. Air/cloud which represents the scientific conception of the location of water were mentioned by children of all ages. The higher the grade of the children were, the more scientific conception the children mentioned, however. 3. Most children referred to the heat as the factor of evaporation. Wind, on the other hand was mentioned by less than 10% of lower graders, and by about 30% of higher graders. 4. The result of asking children whether they thought it was possible to get the evaporated water back showed that about 70% of lower graders denied the possibility of the water being reversible. About 60% of higher graders. however, recognized that the water will be returned as rain or condensation. This increase may be associated with formal teaching of water cycle. 5. In the ideas of evaporation and condensation, some of the children have supernatural ideas and animism, which are most younger chilren's characteristics.

  • An ion-exchange method for the detection of radioactivity in water using ion-exchange resin in concentrating radioactive nuclides was compared with an evaporation method. The loss of the radioactive materials in the sample treated by the ion-exchange method was less by about 20% than that by the evaporation method. In addition, the evaporation method needed about 20 hours for evaporating one liter of the sample at $70^{\circ}C$, while the ion-exchange method spent 6 hours to adsorb and adsorb the same amount of the sample on the resin. Consequently, the ion-exchange method is more effective than the evaporation method for the treatment of the radioactively contaminated water and is especially suitable for detecting the low-level radioactivity in water.

  • The mineralogy of material left after evaporation of acid mine drainage water is generally dependent on the chemical composition of the source water. The residues formed by the evaporation of acid mine water in the Dong-hae coal mine area consists mainly of gypsum (CaSO$_4${\circ}$2$H_2O$) with mine. amounts of alunogen (Al$_2$(SO$_4$)$_3$${\circ}$17$H_2O$) and hexahydrite (MgSO$_4$${\circ}$<.TEX>6$H_2O$). Gypsum was identified from both of the bottom precipitates and the evaporation residues of acid mine water. Alunogen, an aluminum sulfate hydrate, was also formed by evaporation and occurred as needle-like crystals. Aluminum is derived from chemical dissolution of alumine-silicate mineral such as pyre-phyllite, illite and chlorite in wasted rocks. Hexahydrite in evaporation residues occured as needle-like, fibrous, and acicular crystals and was associated with gypsum and alunogen.
