Groundwater monitoring data from the National Groundwater Monitoring Stations, a total of 320 stations, were analyzed to identify the response of water level and quality to the Odaesan earthquake (M4.9) occurred in January 2007. Among the total of eight stations responded to the earthquake, five wells showed water-level decline, and in three wells, water level rose. In terms of recovery, water levels in four stations had recovered to the original level in five days, but not in the rest four wells. The magnitude of water-level change shows weak relations to the distance between the earthquake epicenter and the groundwater monitoring station. However, the relations to the transmissivities of monitored aquifer in the station with the groundwater change were not significant. To implement the earthquake monitoring system through the groundwater monitoring network, we still need to accumulate the long-term monitoring data and geostatistically analyze those with hydrogeological and tectonic factors.

This study was to design the optimal locations of the water level monitoring to quantify the agricultural water use in irrigation area supplied from an agricultural reservoir. In most of agricultural areas without TM/TC (Tele-Monitoring and Tele-Control) or monitoring network, irrigation water have been supplied on conventional experience and agricultural reservoir have been operated based on the operating simulation results by HOMWRS (Hydrological Operation Model for Water Resources System). Therefore, this study quantified the amount of agricultural water use in an irrigation area (Musu Reservoir, Jincheon-gun) by establishing water level monitoring network and analyzed the agricultural water saving effect. According to the evaluation of the economic values for water saving effect, the saving agricultural water of 1.7 million ton was analyzed to have economic values of 0.85 million won as water for living, and 1.78 million won as water for industrial use. It is identified to secure economic feasibility of the new water monitoring network by establishing one monitoring point in the entrance, irrigation area and endpoint through the economic analysis.

In these days, as it frequently happens that water level in the river exceeds the design floods due to irregular heavy rainfall, so it is required, first of an, to manage with railroad bridge safely. Because train control criterion under heavy rainfall is still not prepared and automatic flood monitoring system for railroad bridges is not used, worry over invisible economic loss due to train passage delay is in existence. Therefore, it is important to secure the safety and detect the risk like turnover or failure of railroad bridges through systematic disaster prevention system. And the transition from conventional monitoring method to real time monitoring method supported by sensors and communication system with high technology is rapidly needed. This research is on developing the real time flood monitoring system which prevents railroad disasters in advance by detecting continuously the water level of railroad bridge through CCD camera and water level gauge.
The purpose of this study is to develop the reservoir water monitoring system with automatic level meter. Until now, installation of water level meter for reservoir stage monitoring were not widely spread in agricultural area. This has several reason : to

The main objective of this study was to assess the applicability of IoT (Internet of Things)-based flood management under climate change by developing intelligent water level monitoring platform based on IoT. In this study, Arduino Uno was selected as the development board, which is an open-source electronic platform. Arduino Uno was designed to connect the ultrasonic sensor, temperature sensor, and data logger shield for implementing IoT. Arduino IDE (Integrated Development Environment) was selected as the Arduino software and used to develop the intelligent algorithm to measure and calibrate the real-time water level automatically. The intelligent water level monitoring platform consists of water level measurement, temperature calibration, data calibration, stage-discharge relationship, and data logger algorithms. Water level measurement and temperature calibration algorithm corrected the bias inherent in the ultrasonic sensor. Data calibration algorithm analyzed and corrected the outliers during the measurement process. The verification of the intelligent water level measurement algorithm was performed by comparing water levels using the tape and ultrasonic sensor, which was generated by measuring water levels at regular intervals up to the maximum level. The statistics of the slope of the regression line and $R^2$ were 1.00 and 0.99, respectively which were considered acceptable. The error was 0.0575 cm. The verification of data calibration algorithm was performed by analyzing water levels containing all error codes in a time series graph. The intelligent platform developed in this study may contribute to the public IoT service, which is applicable to intelligent flood management under climate change.
This study aims to develop a drought monitoring scheme based on groundwater which can be exploit for water supply under drought stress. In this context, groundwater level can be used as a proxy for better understanding the temporal evolution of drought state. First, kernel density estimator is presented in the monthly groundwater level over the entire national groundwater stations. The estimated cumulative distribution function is then utilized to map the monthly groundwater level into the standardized groundwater level index (SGI). The SGI for each station was eventually converted into the index for major cities through the Thiessen polygon approach. We provide a drought classification for a given SGI to better characterize the degree of drought condition. Ultimately, we conclude that the proposed monitoring framework enables a more reliable estimation of the drought stress, especially for a limited water supply area.
The Tonle Sap, Cambodia, is a huge lake and periodically flooded due to monsoon climate. The incoming water causes intensive flooding that expands the lake over vast floodplain and wetland consisting mainly of forests and shrubs. Monitoring the water-level change over the floodplain is essential for flood prediction and water resource management. A main objective of this study is flood monitoring over Tonle Sap area using ALOS PALSAR. To study double-bounce effects in the lake, backscattering effect using ALOS PALSAR dual-polarization (HH, HV) data was examined. InSAR technique was applied for detection of water-level change. HH-polarization interferometric pairs between wet and dry seasons were best to measure water level change around northwestern parts of Tonle Sap. The seasonal pattern of water-level variations in Tonle Sap studied by InSAR method is similar to the past and altimeter data. However, water level variation measured by SAR was much smaller than that by altimeter because the DInSAR measurement only represents water level change at a given region of floodplain while altimeter provides water level variation at the central parts of the lake.
We examined temporal variations in and relationships among groundwater level, groundwater temperature, and electric conductivity, and estimated groundwater recharge at Jeju Island. The time lag and regulation time of groundwater level data revealed that monitoring well in Ansung (JM-AS) has the highest auto-correlation. The cross-correlations for electric conductivity-water level, precipitation-water level, and air temperature-water temperature revealed that monitoring well in Seogwi-2 (JR-SG2) (electric conductivity-water level), monitoring well in Hamo (JD-HM) (precipitation-water level), and monitoring well in Wonjongjang-2 (JT-WJJ2) (air temperature-water temperature) had the highest cross-correlations. The average groundwater recharge ratio was 39.61%, and the average groundwater recharge amount was 1,153,490,407 $m^3/yr$, which is consistent with the results of previous studies.

Operation of experimental site on the rural water is necessary to research on the effective development and management of agricultural water. Hydrological data on the watershed runoff, reservoir storage, irrigation and drainage are measured and accumulated. For the monitoring system of the experimental site, four rainfall gauging stations and twenty-six water level gauging stations are established and operated. Analysis of measured data are processed for rainfall amount and intensity, water level and discharge.
We construct the hydrology-water quality monitoring system which can watch the variations of river flow and water quality in real time. We also construct the river management system through the hydrology-water quality monitoring system that can observe water quality and its variations for preparing for the accident of river pollution. The Gyecheon basin which is located at the upstream of Heoengseong dam is selected as an experimental watershed for the system construction. The real time monitoring system for getting more correct hydrological and water quality data consists of 3-rainfall gauge station, 3-water level gauge station, and 1-water quality gauge station. We intend that the data such as rainfall, water level, velocity, flow, and water quality will be collected and we try that the data may be used for practical and other purposes.
