Y-junction microchannels are widely used as a flew mixer. Fluids are entered from two branch channels and merged together at a combined channel. In this study, we suggest a simple method to create the fluid digitization using flow instability phenomena. Two immiscible liquids (water/oil) are infused continuously to each Y-junction inlets. Because of the differences in fluid and flow properties at the interface, oil droplet is formed automatically followed by flow instability. In order to clarify the hydrodynamic aspects involved in oil droplet formation, a quantitative flow visualization study has performed. Highly resolved velocity vector fields are obtained by a micro-PIV technique, so that detail flow structures around the droplet are illustrated. In this study, fluorescent particles were mixed with water only for visualization of oil droplet and velocity field measurement in water flow.
Casting defects produced during the casting process seriously affect the mechanical properties of the resulting products, reduce the performance capabilities of the product, and also result in economic losses. Therefore, this paper mainly investigates the causes of defects and methods by which to reduce these defects stemming from molten metal flows in a runner system of the type widely used in the sand mold casting process. The flow characteristics of a molten alloy are difficult to observe during the actual casting process. For this reason, a water model was used to observe the flow in the casting process, and the flow in each case was recorded using high-speed cameras as part of the experimental process of this study. Several repetitive experiments were performed to improve the accuracy of the experimental results. The traditional casting system was modified according to the design rules proposed by Campbell, and the system was termed flow-adaptive gating system with a water model. Comparing the flow characteristics of traditional and adaptive gating systems with a water model shows that the bubbles in the water in the latter case are reduced more significantly than in the former case. A ceramic filter system was adapted to the flow-adaptive gating system to minimize the instability of the flow during filling, which occurs as the fluid velocity in the runner increases. In additional, the flow behavior with and without the filter system were compared. The water model system in this work was shown to be able to verify that the adaptation of the filter system brings improvements by stabilizing the flow and reducing the amount of bubbles in the runner system. Moreover, using the flow-adaptive runner system with the filter system leads to considerably stable flows in the runner system.
The flow induced vibration in the nuclear fuel assembly causes the fretting wear between the fuel cladding tubes and the supporting grids. The reduction in tube thickness due to the fretting wear could be related to the serious damage on nuclear fuel assembly. In this paper, the effect of the water flow on fretting wear of nuclear fuel cladding tube against supporting grid was investigated through the fretting wear tester with water spout equipment. The test results were compared with the data conducted in the stationary water. At stationary water environment the wear debris was trapped between fretting surfaces, and then the fretting wear occurred by three-body abrasion. However, in the case of water flow, the two-body abrasive wear was the dominant wear mechanism, because the wear debris was easily removed by water flow.

Peak load rate(i.e., maximum daily flow/average daily flow) has not been considered for industrial water demand planning in Korea to date, while area unit method based on average daily flow has been applied to decide capacity of industrial water treatment plants(WTPs). Designers of industrial WTPs has assumed that peak load would not exist if operation rate of factories in industrial sites were close to 100%. However, peak load rates were calculated as 1.10~2.53 based on daily water flow from 2009 to 2014 for 9 industrial WTPs which have been operated more than 9 years(9-38 years). Furthermore, average operation rates of 9 industrial WTPs was less than 70% which means current area unit method has tendency to overestimate water demand. Therefore, it is not reasonable to consider peak load for the calculation of water demand under current area unit method application to prevent overestimation. However, for the precise future industrial water demand calculation more precise data gathering for average daily flow and consideration of peak load rate are recommended.

SMAC method, one of the computational fluid dynamics techniques, is modified from the original MAC method for the time-dependent variation of flow analysis. The Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible time-dependent viscous flow are applied, and also marker particles that present the visualization of flow analysis are used. In this study SMAC technique is used to analyze the flow behavior in the water-filling of virtual channel. Then by changes of diameter of two ingates, the change of velocity and discharge when two ingates are filled the water to virtual channel are simulated. As a result, water-filling flow pattern in the virtual channel is simulated very well. Therefore, this numerical simulation will also be applied for the design of structures as open flume and porous breakwater.

The watertightness of concrete is judged by the depth of penetration of water forced in under pressure with the mechanism of flow of seepage water examined theoretically and experimentally. As a result, it is found that in the case of low water pressure approximately 0.15Mpa or less, the flow is Darcy seepage flow, the same as flow in an ordinary sand stratum, whereas in the case of high water pressure, the flow is diffused seepage flow accompanied by internal deformation of concrete. It is suggested that the watertightness of concrete be evaluated by seepage coefficient in the case of the former and diffusion coefficient in the case of the latter.

The effect of vapor flow direction on falling film heat transfer was experimentally investigated by using water. Parallel flow (both water and vapor downwards) showed higher heat exchange performance than counterflow(downward water and upward vapor). The difference became significant as the vapor flow rate was increased. It is supposed that the uprising vapor disturbs the solution film flow and heat transfer is reduced by uneven distribution or detachment of water film.
In this study used tank model and specific discharge to calculate low-flow of mountain basin and supply data that need in water resources plan. Low-flow is calculated byspecific discharge and area ratio method as resulted that calculate storage of low-flow by tank model was construed that showd all similar aspect. In judged to help in water resources plan establishment calculating low-flow using model to supplement uncertainty of observed data in that calculate of low-flow ungaged mountain area. It shows by economical and realistic plan until 12 years after development that run parallel and use economic performance analysis result valley flow and groundwater. But wide area water services and Chungju dam since 12 years onward was expose that is economic.

To provide required flow rates of cooling or circulating water properly, approach flow conditions of vertical pump systems should be in compliance with state of the art acceptance criteria. The direct inflow should be vortex free, with low pre-rotation and symmetric velocity distribution. Physical model investigations are common practice and the best tool of prediction to evaluate, to optimize and to document flow conditions inside intake structures for vertical pumping systems. Optimization steps should be accomplished with respect to installation costs and complexity on site. The report shows evaluation of various approach flow conditions inside a compact waste water pumping station. The focus is on the occurrence of free surface vortices and the evaluation of air entrainment for various water level and flow rates. The presentation of the results includes the description of the investigated intake structure, occurring flow problems and final recommendations.
The analysis of characteristics of water use evaluation and nighttime domestic flow evaluation was performed by using result from flow monitoring and surveying water supply records and nighttime domestic flow for a year. The analysis of correlations showed that, for both sites, the infiltration ratio and wastewater flow have shown a good relationship with high correlation factor and that the calculation of wastewater flow was highly affected by monthly rainfall depth as well as number of rain days. From this result, it was concluded that the measurement of infiltration should be performed when the rainfall does not significantly affect the sewer flow. Also, it is notable that each value of calculated using method for infiltration evaluation are not comparable to each other, but independent methods. In selecting of evaluation method for infiltration, therefore, a great emphasis should be imposed to the character of area and the seasonal factor in order to select optimal one. It is desirable way for evaluating infiltration and reduction ratio using result from an optimal method.
