Curdlan is one biopolymer composed of ${\beta}$1,3-glucan and dissolved in a alkali solution but formed salt under neutral or acid condition. It was produced by Agrobactrium species and the separation process is necessary to make pure curdlan from the culture broth. The pH swing separation method was as feasible separation process using solubility changes with the pH difference. however, this method requires a lot of acid and alkali solution also produces a lot of waste. Therefore, an efficient process which could save energy and minimize toxic waste was developed. A density gradient separation process was developed in this research. High density sucrose solution was used as a separation agent. Curdlan was separated from the culture broth when the density of the sucrose solution was 1.15 g/L. Since the curdlan was produced on the surface of cell wall. the pre-treatment of culture broth was necessary. Curdlan recovery yield was increased up to 83% with the homogenization of the culture broth and further increased up to 87% with the treatment of alkai-acid solution.

We had clarified the reactions of the rare earth oxides($RE_2O_3$) with lithium oxide produced in lithium reduction process of oxide fuels. Oxides of scandium, yttrium, praseodymium, neodymium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, ytterbium and lutetium reacted with lithium oxide in the higher concentration than the respective certain critical concentration of lithium oxide and formed complex oxides($LiREO_2$). The critical lithium oxide concentrations for the formation of complex oxides of scandium, yttrium, praseodymium, neodymium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, ytterbium and lutetium oxide were respectively 0.1 wt%, 1.9 wt%, 5.3 wt%, 5.0 wt%, 3.0 wt%, 3.9 wt% 2.9 wt%, 2.6 wt% and 0.3 wt%. Cerium and lanthanum oxide did not react with lithium oxide. These complex oxides obtained from experiments have limited solubility in lithium chloride at $650^{\circ}C$.
Waste printed circuit boards (WPCBs) contain valuable metals such as Cu, Ni, Au, Ag, and Pd. For an effective recycling of WPCBs, it is essential to recover the valuable metals. In recent years, recycling processes have come to be necessary for separating noble metals from WPCBs due to an increasing amount of electronic device wastes. However, it is well known that glass reinforced epoxy resins in the WPCBs are difficult materials to separate into elemental components, namely metals, glass fibers and epoxy resins in the chemical recycling process. $K_3PO_4$ as a catalyst in dimethylformamide (DMF) and N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) was used to depolymerize epoxy resins for recovering metallic and non-metallic components from WPCBs. Reactions of WPCBs were carried out at temperatures $160{\sim}200^{\circ}C$ for 2~12 h. The recycled glass fiber from WPCBs was analyzed by thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and evaluated the degree of solubility of the epoxy resin for separation efficiencies of the WPCBs.

Procedures for isolatin of chitin have been developed from crab(Chionoecetes opilio) shell waste with 26. 65% chitin on a dry basis. Optimal conditions for demineralization of crab shell were 1N HCl at ambient temperature for 30min with a solids to solbent ratio of 1 : 15(w/v). Optimal deproteinization involved treatment with 5% NaOH at $65^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr with a solids to solvent ratio of 1 : 15(w/v). Effective decoloration was achieved by bleaching with 0.32% sodium hypochlorite solution for 3min with a solids to solvent ratio of 1 : 10(w/v). Particular attentin was given to characterization of the physicochemical properties of the crab chitin. Chitins, from four different mesh sizes of crab shell, did not show significant differences in nitrogen and ash compositions. Bleaching decreased the viscosity of chitin but did not affect its solubility.
The analysis of 41Ca in concrete generated from the nuclear facilities decommissioning is critical for ensuring the safe management of radioactive waste. An analytical method for the determination of 41Ca in concrete is described. 41Ca is a neutron-activated long radionuclide, and hence, for accurate analysis, it is necessary to completely extract Ca from the concrete sample where it exists as the predominant element. The decomposition methods employed were the acid leaching, microwave digestion, and alkali fusion. A comparison of the results indicated that the alkali fusion is the most suitable way for the separation of Ca from the concrete sample. Several processes of hydroxide and carbonate precipitation were employed to separate 41Ca from interferences. The method relies on the differences in the solubility of the generated products. The behavior of Ca and the interfering elements such as Fe, Ni, Co, Eu, Ba, and Sr is examined at each separation step. The purified 41Ca was measured by a liquid scintillation counter, and the quench curve and counting efficiency were determined by using a certified reference material of known 41Ca activity. The recoveries in this study ranged from 56 to 68%, and the minimum detectable activity was 50 mBq g-1 with 0.5 g of concrete sample.

There is a gap in our understanding of the behavior of fused and molten fuel salts containing unavoidable contamination, such as those due to fabrication, handling, or storage. Therefore, this work used calorimetry to investigate the change in liquidus temperature of PuCl3, having an unknown purity and that had been in storage for several decades. Further research was performed by additions of NaCl, making several compositions within the binary system, and summarizing the resulting changes, if any, to the phase diagram. The melting temperature of the PuCl3 was determined to be 746.5℃, approximately 20℃ lower than literature reported values, most likely due to an excess of Pu metal in the PuCl3 either due to the presence of metallic plutonium remaining from incomplete chlorination or due to the solubility of Pu in PuCl3. From the melting temperature, it was determined that the PuCl3 contained between 5.9 to 6.2mol% Pu metal. Analysis of the NaCl-PuCl3 samples showed that using the Pu rich PuCl3 resulted in significant changes to the NaCl-PuCl3 phase diagram. Most notably an unreported phase transition occurring at approximately 406℃ and a new eutectic composition of 52.7mol% NaCl-38.7mol% PuCl3-2.5mol% Pu which melted at 449.3℃. Additionally, an increase in the liquidus temperatures was seen for NaCl rich compositions while lower liquidus temperatures were seen for PuCl3 rich compositions. It can therefore be concluded that changes will occur in the NaCl-PuCl3 binary system when using PuCl3 with excess Pu metal. However, melting temperature analysis can provide valuable insight into the composition of the PuCl3 and therefore the NaCl-PuCl3 system.
In order to increase landfill gas (LFG) production with food waste leachate, this study was confirmed to be acidogenetic conditions for landfill site injection. Thereby, it was conducted for acidogenetic treatments to determine the decrease in viscosity and VFA production. After acidogenesis treatments, solubility of food waste leachate increased approximately 15%, and as a result, UASB and CSTR were similar by reactor type using the change of retention time. Based on the result of the change in viscosity by reactor type, efficiency of UASB showed approximately 11.38% of higher decrease in viscosity as $76.95{\pm}3.27%$ vs. CSTR. Also, VFA production showed the higher increase of 2.01 times (UASB) and 1.76 times (CSTR) respectively at the point of increasing retention time from 3 to 5 days. From the above results, efficiency of UASB in a reactor was relatively higher because large molecular lead to longer retention time than small molecular due to having screen effect in the fixed media.

When copper alloy is used in etching process for the production of lead frame, the high concentration of heavy metals, such as iron, nickel and zinc may be included in the etching waste. Those etching waste is classified as a specified one. Therefore a customized design was designed for the purification process of the lead frame etching waste liquid containing high concentrations of heavy metals for the production of an electroplating copper(II) oxide. Since the lead frame etching waste solution contains highly concentrated heavy metal species, an ion exchange method is difficult to remove all heavy metals. In this study, a copper(I) chloride was manufactured by using water solubility difference related to the reduction-oxidation method followed by the reunion of copper(II) chloride using sodium sulfate as an oxidant. The hydrazine was chosen as a reducing agent. The optimum added amount was 1.4 mol per 1.0 mol of copper. In the case of removal of heavy metals by using the combination of reduction-oxidation and ion exchange resin methods, 4.3 ppm of $Fe^{3+}$, 2.4 ppm of $Ni^{2+}$ and 0.78 ppm of $Zn^{2+}$ can be reused as raw materials for electroplating copper(II) oxide when repeated three times.
The current study stresses on the reuse of waste lignocellulose biomass (rice husk and sugarcane bagasse) for the synthesis of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and further conversion of this CMC into a biodegradable film. Addition of commercial starch was done to form biodegradable film due to its capacity to form a continuous matrix. Plasticizers such as Glycerol and citric acid were used to provide flexibility and strength to the film. Biopolymer film obtained from sugarcane bagasse CMC showed maximum tensile strength and elongation in comparison to the film synthesized from commercial CMC and CMC obtained from rice husk. It has been observed that an increase in sodium glycolate/NaCl content in CMC imposed an adverse effect on tensile strength. Opacity, moisture content, and solubility of the film increased with a rise in the degree of substitution of CMC. Therefore, CMC obtained from sugarcane bagasse was better candidate in preparing biopolymer/biocomposite film.
A number of closed metal mines act as point sources of contamination on nearby streams, soils and plants in our country. The contamination of twelve decomposed samples had earned from nine closed metal mines had been evaluated by TEA-3000. The contents of heavy metal with ion fraction exchange and carbonate fraction forms had been showed that the speciation of heavy metals represented with easy solubility, mobility and bioavailable of plants, and in case of sulfide compounds and organic residuals forms are related with the speciation of metals which may be stable forms because of strong bindable capacity. Also heavy metals elements in mosts of mines got with relative stable within crystal lattice, but results of trace element analyser showed that, in the most of tailings from mine areas, large portions of concentration of heavy metals were explained as stable from, sulfides/ organics and residual. In tailing from Imchun mines, the concentrations extracted by water were relatively high as compared with other mine areas whose total concentrations were very high because of large quantities of exchangeable ions and carbonates and low soil pH. Danger Index (D.I.) suggested in this study was based on the cumulative concentrations of step 1 and 2 from the result of trace element analyser. When the soil pH was considered, this index became better indicator to determine the priority for the remediation of mine area.
