The crossflow is the key phenomenon in turbulent flow inside rod bundles. In order to establish confidence on application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to simulate the crossflow in rod bundles, three Reynolds-Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) models i.e. the realizable k-ε model, the k-ω SST model and the Reynolds stress model (RSM), and the Large Eddy simulations (LES) with the Wall-Adapting Local Eddy-viscosity (WALE) model are validated based on the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) flow measurement experiment in a 5 × 5 rod bundle. In order to investigate effects of periodic boundary condition in the gap, the numerical results obtained with four inner subchannels are compared with that obtained with the whole 5 × 5 rod bundle. The results show that periodic boundaries in the gaps produce strong errors far downstream of the spacer grid, and therefore the full 5 × 5 rod bundle should be simulated. Furthermore, it can be concluded, that the realizable k-ε model can only provide reasonable results very close to the spacer grid, while the other investigated models are in good agreement with the experimental data in the whole downstream flow in the rod bundle. The LES approach shows superiority to the RANS models.
This study performs a numerical simulation of lid driven rectangular cavity flow with different aspect ratios of k = 0.5 to 4 under Reynolds 100, 1,000, 10,000 by using multi-relaxation time (MRT) Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM). In order to achieve better convergence, well-posed boundary conditions in the domain should be defined such as no-slip condition on side and bottom solid wall surfaces and uniform horizontal velocity on the top of the cavity. This study focuses on the flow inside different shape of rectangular cavity with the aim to observe the effect of the Reynolds number and aspect ratio on the flow characteristics and primary/secondary vortex formation. In order to validate the study, the results have been compared with existing works. The result shows that the Reynolds number and the aspect ratio both has substantial effects on the flow inside the lid-driven rectangular cavity.

The purpose of this study is to suggest an improvement for the CPTED(Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) guidelines for the urban linear park. We analysed the Changjeon-dong section of Gyeongui Line Forest Park into 12 sub-areas and evaluated CPTED design applied on the park based on analysis framework derived from 15 precedent studies by conducting on-site observations. Both surveys and in-depth interviews on users of the park were conducted and the results of analysis on the evaluation from users and the on-site observation were compared. We found that the lighting condition and the height of wall and trees at the park boundaries are very important to insure natural surveillance since the adjacent areas are easy to be hidden from passers-by and subject to invasion and threat of crime while protecting the privacy of residents on the boundary. There should be improvement on management facilities and crime prevention facilities for more safe and convenient use of the linear park and the adjacent commercial use during nighttime also need to be managed for conflicts between various type of users.

The purpose of this study is on the prediction of the acoustic performance of the lined rectangular plenum chamber which can be used in the HVAC systems. The lined plenum chamber is modeled as a piston driven rectangular tube without mean flow and the acoustic pressure in the lined chamber is obtained by superposing the three dimensional pressure due to each of uniformly and harmonically fluctuating pistons. The arbitrary locations of inlet/outlet ports as well as the acoustic higher order modes generated at the area discontinuities of the port chamber interfaces are taken into consideration. The four-pole parameters can be derived by imposing the proper boundary conditions on each inlet and outlet ports. The lining material on the internal wall is assumed to be a bulk-reacting model. A single weak variation statement which satisfies the fluctuating rigid piston condition and the pressure and displacement continuity condition at the interface between the lining material and the airway was developed. The set of cosine functions were used as the admissible function when applying the Rayleigh-Ritz method. Computed results are compared with those predicted by using the locally-reacting lining material and experimental results, respectively. There are a good agreement shown between the results by the Rayleigh-Ritz method and the experiment results. The derived transfer matrices can be easily combined with other four-pole parameters of different types of mufflers for the calculation of the whole system performance.

In this paper, the characteristic of pressures had been analyzed with a series of shapes that are pressure probes used in supersonic wind tunnel. When a performance of supersonic wind tunnel is evaluated, the Mach number is calculated by using the ratio of static pressure in test section wall to total pressure in settling chamber. Also the flow condition can be visualized by schlieren system. However a number of limitations exist to measure pressure of test section due to high speed and boundary layer effect. Therefore a specific pressure probe is needed for evaluating flow condition in test section at a various of positions. In the paper, experiments were conducted in terms of some pitot probes and the results were compared and analyzed.

New concept of LNG-FPSO ship with moonpool and bilge step in bottom is considered and investigated in the point of motion reduction and sloshing phenomena of the cargo and operation tanks. The cargo capacity of the ship of which principle dimensions is L x B x D x t(design) =270.0 x 51.0 x 32.32 x 13.7(m) 16K at 98% loading condition. The two moonpools and rectangular step at bilge part are setted up specially for getting the effect of motion decrease. For the motion analysis, linearized three dimensional diffraction theory with the simplified boundary conditions is used. The six-degree of freedom coupled motion responses are calculated for the LNG-FPSO ship. Viscous effects on the roll motion responses of a vessel are taken into account in this calculation program using an empirical formula suggested by Ikeda, Himeno and Tanaka is used. The case study for the moonpool size had been carried out by theoretical estimation and experimental method. For the optimization of the moonpool size and effect of the step, 9 cases of its size and with and without step are considered. From the results of calculation and experiment, it can be concluded that this designed LNG-FPSO ship have possibility to carry out her missions in the rough sea as for the owner's demand waves condition. The motion responses, especially roll motion, for the designed LNG-FPSO ship are much lower than those of another drillship and shuttle tanker and limit criterions are satisfied. For the check of the cargo tank and operation tank sizes we have performed sloshing analysis in the irregular waves which focuses on the pressure distribution on the tank wall and the time history of pressure and free surface for No.2 and No5. tanks of LNG-FPSO with chamfers. Finally we got the tank size which has no resonance and no impact pressure in all filling in the bow quartering and beam sea.

A New concept for the LNG-FPSO ship, with moonpool and bilge step in bottom, is proposed. This concept is investigated with regard to motion reduction and sloshing phenomena of the cargo and operation tanks. The principal dimensions of the ship are $L\timesb B\times D\times t(design)=270.0\times51.0\times32.32\times13.7(m)$, with a total cargo capacity of 161KT; a 98% loading condition is considered for this study. The moonpools and rectangular step at the bilge have been designed for the purpose of decreasing the motion within the tank. For the motion analysis, linearized three-dimensional diffraction theory, with the simplified boundary condition was used. The six-degree of freedom coupled motion responses were calculated for the LNG-FPSO ship. Viscous effects on the roll motion responses of a vessel were taken into account in this calculation program, using an empirical formula suggested by Himeno(1981). The case study for the moonpool size has been conducted using theoretical estimation and the experimental method. For the optimization of the moonpool size and effect of the bilge step, 9 cases of its size, both with and without bilge step, were involved in the study. no motion responses, especially roll motion, for the designed LNG-FPSO ships are much lower than those of other drill ships and shuttle tankers. The limit criterions are satisfied. To check the cargo tank and operation tank sizes, we performed a sloshing analysis in the irregular waves which focuses on the pressure distribution on the tank wall and the time history of pressure and free surface for No.2 and 5 tanks of LNG-FPSO with chamfers. Finally, optimum tank sire was estimated.

Thermoacoustic oscillation of an air column induced by heated wires is investigated analytically and experimentally. Acoustic power generation from a single heater wire is estimated based on the result of heat transfer analysis and expressed in terms of the efficiency factor indicating the conversion efficiency from heat to acoustic energy. It is shown that the efficiency factor becomes maximum when the wire radius is the order of the coustic boundary layer thickness and the flow velocity is close to the thermal diffusion velocity. Onset condition of the column oscillation is obtained by equating the acoustic power generation at the heater to the power loss due to thermoviscous dissipation at the tube wall and the convection and radiationloss at the open ends of the tube. In estimating the acoustic power generation, the heater is treated as a stretched single wire by correcting the flow velocity to take into account the interactions between adjacent heater wires. Experiment is performed by using a spiral heater of 1mm diameter in an air column of 37mm diameter. The heat input to drive the oscillation is measured and compared with the theoretical prediction. A good agreement is found between the theory and experiment, which is regarded as a substantial verification of the present analysis.

In order to demonstrate the flow properties of the river bed and the design of hydraulic structures, the estimation of friction velocity is essentially required. However, existing friction velocity equations such as Log method and Power law have trouble to estimate the friction velocity because a boundary condition and various hydraulic properties are changed constantly in near the wall. In the present study, therefore, a new friction velocity equation that can minimize the parameters and reduce an error was suggested. To verify accuracy and reliability for the proposed equation, Clauser method, $\sqrt{gRI}$ method, reynolds stress method by Dr. Song were compared with the proposed method by estimated entropy parameter M for each channel. Consequently, the results show that uniform flow condition as well as non-uniform flow condition with highly accuracy nearly matched in case of accelerating non-uniform condition of $R^2=0.9621$, Decelerating Non Uniform condition of $R^2=0.9274$, Uniform condition of $R^2=0.8865$.
Latent heat storage system using micro-encapsuled phase change material is effective method for floor heating of house and building. The temperature profile in capsule block and flow rate of hot water are important parameters for the development of heat storage system. In the present study, a mathematical model based on 3-D, non-steady state, Navier-Stokes equations, scalar conservation equations and turbulence model ($\kappa$-$\varepsilon$), is used to predict the temperature profiles in capsule and the velocity vectors in hot water pipe. The multi-block grids and fine grids embedding are used to join the circle in hot water pipe and square in capsule block. The phase change process of the capsule is quite complex not only because the size of phase change material is very small, but also because phase change material is mixed with the cement to form thermal storage block. In calculation, it's assumed that the phenomena of phase change is limited only the thermal properties of phase change material and the change of boundary is not happened in capsule. The purpose of this study is to calculate the temperature profiles in capsule block and velocity vectors in hot water pipe using the numerical calculation. Two kinds of thermal boundary condition were considered, the first (case 1) is the adiabatic condition for the both outside surfaces of the wall, the second (case 2) is the case in which one surface is natural convection with atmosphere and another surface is adaibatic. Calculation results are shown that the temperature profile in capsule block for case 1 is higher than that for case 2 due to less heat loss in adaibatic surface. Specially, in the domain of near Y=0, the difference of temperature is greater in case 1 than in case 2. The detailed experimental data of capsule block on the temperature profile and the thermal properties such as specific heat and coefficient of heat transfer with the various temperature are required to predict more exact phenomena of heat transfer.
