  • To respond to years-long economic decline in the downtown Seoul, it is necessary to lay out a scheme revitalizing downtown economy. It is called Wanavi and Shonavi system. When customers do shopping, it is the "Shonavi" that provides shopping information such as popular shop name, location, and commodity price to walkers in a real-time base. In addition, the walking navigation system called "Wanavi" is designed to provide access information for walking shoppers, the function of which is similar to car navigation system. The "Wanavi" can help walkers find the fastest, comfortable and attractive pedestrian route and public transportation information reaching to the destination in the downtown. In this study, we propose GPA & RFID mixed system as a communication technique to activate "Shonavi" and "Wanavi" system. The "Shonavi" and "Wanavi" system will be one of the ways to revitalize depressed downtown economy in Seoul.

  • Insects have many excellent features and functions in their small bodies, such as hexapod walking, flapping flight, vision systems, sensory hairs, etc, and those characteristics can be thought as good models for many types of robots. Insects also will be good models far micro-machines because of its size. Insect behavior consists of simple reflex acts and programmed behavior, Some robots were made in order to clarify the emergent mechanism of insect behavior, Through some experiments it would be found that even if insect behavior consists of some simple action patterns, it looks intelligent through interactions its sensors and actuators with its complex environment. In the near futures small robots inspired by insects will be used in many fields of our life. I hope that insect-model based robots will play an active part in many fields and that they will make us happy.

  • Robust system may not guaranty its applicability and adaptability. That is why research and development go together in the modern research concept. In this paper we are going to examine the applicability and adaptability of gait-based biometric identity verification system especially in the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council). The system itself closely involved with human interaction where privacy and personality are in concern. As of 1st phase of our research we will establish gait-based identity verification system and then we will explain them in and out of human interaction with the system. With involved interaction we will conduct an extensive survey to find out both applicability and adoptability of the system. To conduct our experiment, we will use UCMG databased [1] which is readily available for the research community with more than three thousand video sequences in different viewpoint collected in various walking pattern and clothing. For the survey we will prepare questioners which will cover approach of data collection, potential traits to collect and possible consequences. For analyzing gait biometric trait, we will apply multivariate statistical classifier through well-known machine learning algorithms in a ready platform. Similarly, for the survey data analysis we will use similar approach to co-relate the user view point for such system. It will also help us to find the perception of the user for the system.

  • This study is purposed to verify the safety of the floor of the children's playground using polyolefin foam waste and rubber paving. The critical fall height, walking suitability, long term physical fatigue expectation and slipperiness were tested. Polyolefin foam wastes in thickness of 30mm, 50mm and 70mm were prepared with paving the rubber paving materials in 12mm and 15mm thickness respectively. The test on the critical fall height was carried out according to KS G 5758:2009. The floor hardness test equipment (O-Y HMA) was used for the test on hardness of the floor from a viewpoint of walking suitability and fatigue. A portable slipperiness tester (ONO PPSM) was used for slipperiness test. It was revealed from the test that the floor made of the polyolefin foam waste and rubber paving were considerably safe from a viewpoint of impact absorption. With regards to the hardness of the floor, it was shown the excellent performance in the aspects of walking and fatigue for male. But it was not suitable with walking on the shoes(middle heels) for female. And they will be very fatigue if they were in a long time walking or standing. As far as the slipperiness is concerned, it was shown that it was comparatively safe for the ordinary motions even though the surface was wet.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 12-week walking exercise on body composition, physical fitness, cardiovascular function, blood lipids, GH, IGF-1and leptin in obese and normal middle school girls. Participants included 12 pairs of middle school girls who were matched for sex, age and stratified by BMI (Obese Group: BMI$\geq$25.0; Normal Group: BMI<23.0). The variables of all factors were measured in all the subjects before and after the 12-week walking exercise program. The test data were analyzed by paired t-test, and t-test using the SPSS 14.0 statistics package and the alpha level of p<0.05 was set for all tests of significance. Body composition showed a significant difference in both groups, but the variables of physical fitness, cardiovascular function, blood lipids, growth hormone, and leptin did not show a significant difference in the two groups. We conclude that regular and continuous walking exercise improved body composition, physical fitness, cardiovascular function, blood lipids, and insulin factors in both groups. Consequently, these findings suggest that walking exercise will be effective for preventing obesity and improving health-related factors in the middle school girls.

  • The utilized coefficient of friction (UCOF) as a ratio of the shear force to the normal force on the ground during walking is used to identify the point at which slip is likely to occur. Shoe walking will change the utilized coefficient of friction by shoe design such as sole thickness and hardness, heel shape, and outsole pattern. In this study, subjects are 21 adults (10 female, 11 male, age: $25.2{\pm}2.3yrs$, height: $165.6{\pm}7.2cm$), analysis variables were walking speed, GRF, when the UCOF is maximal, and Tangent of CoP-CoM angle, and correlation analysis with the utilized friction coefficient (UCOF). As a result, First, for the shod walking the time point which UCOF is maximum about heel strike was faster and the magnitude was larger than for barefoot walking. Second, the correlation between the tangent of CoP-CoM and UCOF of right foot was higher at the left heel striking point (UCOF2_h) which occurred in the post propulsion phase than at the right heel striking point (UCOF1_h). This suggests that the right foot UCOF is related to the braking phase of left foot( which is the propulsion phase of right foot) rather than the braking phase of right foot.

  • This research tried to suggest a method of DB construction in the field using evaluation variables and Mobile GIS focusing on Changwon City as a leading study to encourage walking and biking in everyday life. First, twenty evaluation variables of WEs(walking environments) were selected through the literature review, and also scored separately. Second, the field survey-DB of each variable was built effectively using Mobile GIS. Finally, WEs were evaluated synthetically based on the obtained data. The results of this research are summarized as follows. While the WE of the zones located in the fringe of Changwon square were generally got a high score as over 42, other zones located in detached or row house area were evaluated relatively highly bad. Findings from this research will help in determining the zone required improvement of WEs or easy access to main destination such as a park, shopping center, school, etc. and also selecting variables of WEs, needed an intensive improvement, in the selected zone after comparing the results of field and questionnaire survey. Furthermore, those will be used as a means of decision making support for planing, designing and maintaining of WEs to promote people's physical activity in their daily lives.

  • A lower extremity exoskeleton is a robot device that attaches to the lower limbs of the human body to augment or assist with the walking ability of the wearer. In order to improve the wearer's walking ability, the robot senses the wearer's walking locomotion and classifies it into a gait-phase state, after which it drives the appropriate robot motions for each state using its actuators. This paper presents a method by which the robot senses the wearer's locomotion along with a novel classification algorithm which classifies the sensed data as a gait-phase state. The robot determines its control mode using this gait-phase information. If erroneous information is delivered, the robot will fail to improve the walking ability or will bring some discomfort to the wearer. Therefore, it is necessary for the algorithm constantly to classify the correct gait-phase information. However, our device for sensing a human's locomotion has very sensitive characteristics sufficient for it to detect small movements. With only simple logic like a threshold-based classification, it is difficult to deliver the correct information continually. In order to overcome this and provide correct information in a timely manner, a probabilistic gait-phase classification algorithm is proposed. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm offers excellent accuracy.

  • As life expectancy has increased, health status becomes an important factor on life. The Fourth Industrial Revolution has led to the development of a variety of healthcare devices and applications that make it easier and more convenient to manage health. In particular, the area of individual genetic analysis with Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) has expanded, and genetic information is used to treat and prevent diseases according to individual differences. This study analyzes the genetic information of individuals, that is, SNP variant, and identifies specific chronic disease risk groups such as obesity, diabetes and hypertension. After then we will propose a customized nutrition information service. In addition the service of regional exercise management will be provided, to encourage exercise based on walking courses and sports center information in residential areas. Based on the GPS, it will design the service of exercise management that can encourage exercise by providing walking course and sports center information in the residential area.
