The purpose of this study is to analyze relationships between compact city development and residents' shopping trips in Seoul. Compact city planning factors are classified into land use and traffic environment. The main data source used for this research is 2006 Household Travel Survey data, then a statistic analysis was carried out by applying random intercept logit model. Analysis shows that a high level of residential density increases residents' local shopping. Also, a high level of residential density and land use mix results in more uses of public transportation, bicycle and walking for shopping. Also, more access to public transportation leads to more use of public transportation for shopping. Therefore, compact city development will have a positive impact on activating the use of public transportation, bicycle and walking for shopping.
The purpose of this study is to conduct a visitor survey which provides demographical characteristics, a profile of the characteristic, travel behavior in different forest trails; Bukhansan trail, Uljin trail, Jirisan trail. Bukhansan trail (second course) is about 3 km and many visitors are nearby residents for the walking. Uljin trail is 80 km, especially conducting visitor reservation guide system and most visitors are 30s and 50s. Jirisan trail is total 209.3 km (a total of 17 courses), networking regional trail routes and was most popular between the ages of 20 and 39. The results showed that Bukhansan trail was used for light walking course, and visitors preferred health related activities. In Uljin trail, visitors expected trekking with nature-based activities and visitors of Jirisan trail seemed to prefer trekking and request more trail's walkability than other trail users.

Transfer impedance is one of the most critical factors decreasing the competitive power of public transportation. Therefore, it is necessary to improve transfer impedance of KTX and rail station users in order to increase the usage of public transportation. Important factors influencing transfer decisions include exterior walking distance, interior walking distance, steps, and escalators. However, their comparative impedances are different. This study constructed a model for calculating transfer impedance based on bodily sensational transfer time in KTX and rail stations and calculated transfer impedance on major KTX and rail stations in Korea. The study results show that the addition of one escalator decreases travel time by one to three minutes. The calculated transfer impedance based on bodily sensational transfer time in this study can be utilized as objective criteria to compare transfer conditions of different KTX and rail stations and to prioritize them for facility improvement. The calculated transfer impedance also can be used as facility guidelines for designing a new transit center.
This paper addressed the issue of a generalized cost model for transit assignment. The model composed of walk time, waiting time (including transfer waiting time), line-haul time, transfer walk time, and fare. The weights of each component were supposed to be calculated using the stated preference (SP) data, which were collected prudently in order to reflect reality. The marginal rate of substitution and wage rate were applied to calculate the weights. The results showed that the weight of walking time per in-vehicle travel time (IVTT) was 1.507, the weight of waiting time (per IVTT) was 1.749, that of transfer time (per IVTT) was 1.474, and that of fare (per IVTT) was 1.476 for trips between inner-city areas in Seoul. Weights for each component were identified as 1.871, 1.967, 1.015, and 0.857, respectively, for trips between Seoul and Gyeonggi. Statistical significance existed between two cases and each variable was also statistically significant. Transit assignment using the relative weights estimated in this study was implemented to analyze the travel index in a macroscopic and quantitative basis. The results showed that average total travel times were 30.23 minutes and 63.29 minutes and average generalized costs were 2,510 won and 3,880 won for trips between inner-city areas in Seoul and between Seoul and Gyeonggi, respectively.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the value of information on Bus-Route concerning on the User's Individual value. The value of information is estimated with the price of time saving by using the information. The price of unit time for each user is applied to convert the saving time to the cost. To estimate the user's expense from origin to destination the previous model is modified. Bus-travel cost is estimated with variables such as bus-travel time, bus-interval, bus-fare, and the price of walking distance. In this study, to estimate in-vehicle time the bus-travel time model is developed based on the spatial characteristics distinguished by three types of circular-road in the network of Daegu Metropolitan area. For the case study, a set of the origin and destination is selected as Dalsu-gu District Office and East Daegu Train Station respectively. There are several bus-routes which can be used as direct or transferable bus-routes selected. The study showed that when the value of time for individual users is \1,738/hr, there is no benefit to using information of transferable bus-routes. It also showed that the more discount rates of bus fare is increased, the benefit to using information of transferable bus-routes is increased, and that the lower value of time is, the benefit to using information of transferable bus-routes is increased.

This paper discusses several topics associated with the densification caused by supertall buildings and their impact on city systems. The paper covers five key areas where a supertall tower creates a concentration of needs and effects. First, the paper comments on population shifts towards the city and how they affect carbon footprint, utilities infrastructure and transport. The effect of single- and mixed-use towers is discussed in the context of population density. The second section brings the issues of transit, accessibility and master planning into focus. The use and criticality of public transport, cycling and walking is described. Servicing and deliveries using freight consolidation and shared systems is also discussed along with their contribution to the culture of sustainable travel. In the third section the paper reflects on supertall buildings' below-ground utilities and drainage provision, particularly the challenges faced in established city infrastructures. The utilities issues associated with supertall concentration (in land-use terms) compared to equivalent low-rise distribution is also commented on in the context of surface water runoff. In the fourth section, the topic of supertall sustainability is discussed and how city systems need to respond to create desirable and affordable space for occupiers. The changing need for vertical communities, 'stacked neighbourhoods' and the notion of a micro-city is described. Finally, the paper considers the energy consumption and resilience of supertall buildings in the context of basic geometry, façade design, climate and mixed-use benefits as they impact city systems.
In this study, Analysis of DRT model and contribustion based on the case of local governments adopting the Demand Responsive Transit(DRT) in order to provide transportation in public transportation service weak area. Based on the case of Yeoju Area, the contribution of the DRT was analyzed. The DRT model was established as a fixed and call type model with taxi and bus transportation. Based on the results of the happy taxi service in Yeoju Area in 2016, the contribution of DRT was analyzed. According to the happy taxi performance of Yeoju city, it was introduced to 27 villages, and operated 4,188 times. And 9,111 people used it and Yeoju Area supported about 53 million Won. The contribution of local governments was analyzed in terms of local government, users, and social aspects. On local government aspects, we analyzed the budget cuts and complaints resolution. On the user aspects, we analyzed waiting time reduction, walking time reduction, travel time reduction, comfort, punctuality, and stability. On social aspects, we analyzed taxi and regional economy activation, and convenience of mobility.

In Korea, the number of crash accident victims per 100,000 population is three times higher than the average of OECD. In particular, 60% of it occurs on the community road. Thus, this study intends to analyze the causes of such accidents through a pedestrian and vehicle traffic survey. The purpose is to establish practical safety enhancement measures for community roads. In recent years, lots of changes have occurred in the pedestrian environment. A traffic survey shows that 65% of pedestrians walk on the right and 17% of people use smart-phones while walking. An eye camera experiment shows that the operation load of drivers on the community roads is more than 4 times higher than those in urban roads. According to a speed survey, 62% of vehicles drive at 30km/h or above. The characteristics of accidents on community roads are as follows. First, the ratio of accidents on the edge of the road is 2.3 times as high as those on other roads. Second, when people walk on the right, the ratio of accidents is 2.5 times as high as that of walking on the left. Third, it becomes more dangerous when people cross the road from the right to the left. The majority of accidents is caused by unsafe driving (84.4%). When a vehicle makes a left turn, the likelihood of accidents is 2.3 times as high as those caused by a right turn. The ratio of accidents caused by vehicles going backwards is 14% among all accidents. In community roads, the focus of drivers should be at least 4 times higher than those on urban roads. Thus, walking in the opposite direction of vehicles and careless behaviors are highly likely lead to accidents.
Korea, with 63.7% of the land being forests, has unique characteristics of forest landscapes coming into view for most residential areas and roads. This study was undertaken with a purpose of supporting forest landscape management by partitioning the areas that landscape management is needed. Through analysing the degree of forest landscape management needs and the visual absorption capability for landscape changes, the zoning process and method for landscape management were conducted. In order to select the areas that are managed by priority for landscape, the degree of forest landscape management needs was quantitatively analyzed with the main scenic sites, travel frequencies, major forest landscape resources, and areas with demand for walking and automobile travel as the basis. The visual absorption capability that means the visual acceptance capability against physical landscape changes of the designated areas was analyzed in order to select the areas that are suitable for artificial landscape management. As a result, it became possible to express the degrees of forest landscape management needs in high, middle, and low sub-areas, and the visual absorption capability in high, middle, and low sub-areas, for each of the three zones in terms of spaces in the forest landscape management areas. For example, among the forest landscape transition zones, if the degree of forest landscape management needs is high and the visual absorption capability is high, then aggressive landscape management would be possible; this would also mean that this area could accept certain levels of physical landscape changes. By applying zoning methods like these, it was possible to attain a conclusive result that proper means of landscape design and management of the forest landscape resources and the surrounding areas could be provided.

This study reviewed the process of applying the Monte Carlo simulation technique to the traffic allocation problem of metropolitan subways. The analysis applied the assumption of a normal distribution in which the travel time information of the inter-station sample is the basis of the probit model. From this, the average and standard deviation are calculated by separating the traffic between stations. A plan was proposed to apply the simulation with the weights of the in-vehicle time of individual links and the walking and dispatch interval of transfer. Long-distance traffic with a low number of samples of 50 or fewer was evaluated as a way to analyze the characteristics of similar traffic. The research results were reviewed in two directions by applying them to the Seoul Metropolitan Subway Network. The travel time between single stations on the Seolleung-Seongsu route was verified by applying random sampling to the in-vehicle time and transfer time. The assumption of a normal distribution was accepted for sample sizes of more than 50 stations according to the inter-station traffic sample of the entire Seoul Metropolitan Subway. For long-distance traffic with samples numbering less than 50, the minimum distance between stations was 122Km. Therefore, it was judged that the sample deviation equality was achieved and the inter-station mean and standard deviation of the transport card data for stations at this distance could be applied.
