  • This letter presents that a rectenna can utilize more stable wireless power by using a new design dual band/dual polarization microstrip patch antenna and 2 stage voltage multiplier at 2.4 GHz band and 3.1 GHz band. The proposed antenna is a new microstrip patch antenna design to make impedance matching possible by using slotted capacitive coupling between the patch and $50\Omega$ feed line on a ground plane. Its advantage is that the size of the rectenna can be reduced by using $50\Omega$ feed line on the ground plane, which can be used efficiently. The dual band/dual polarization microstrip patch antenna shows circular polarization at 2.4 GHz band and linear polarization at 3.1 GHz band. Under -10 dB return loss, The dual band/dual polarization microstrip patch antenna obtains 340 MHz bandwidth as 2.23~2.57 GHz and 375 MHz bandwidth as 2.95~3.325 GHz. Also, 2 Stage Voltage multiplier is possible to operate at 2.4 GHz band and 3.1 GHz band. The designed retenna can usually obtain wireless power at both 3.1 GHz band, and 2.4 GHz band applications such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Wireless LAN, etc. So more stable wireless power can be utilized at the same time.

  • Providing a customer with tailored location-based services (LBSs) is a fundamental problem. For location-estimation techniques with radio-based measurements, LBS applications are widely available for mobile devices (MDs), such as smartphones, enabling users to run multi-task applications. LBS information not only enables obtaining the current location of an MD but also provides real-time push-pull communication service. For indoor environments, localization technologies based on radio frequency (RF) pattern-matching approaches are accurate and commonly used. However, to survey radio information for pattern-matching approaches, a considerable amount of time and work is spent in indoor environments. Consequently, in order to reduce the system-deployment cost and computing complexity, this article proposes an indoor positioning approach, which involves using Asus Xtion to facilitate capturing RF signals during an offline site survey. The depth information obtained using Asus Xtion is utilized to estimate the locations and predict the received signal strength (RF information) at uncertain locations. The proposed approach effectively reduces not only the time and work costs but also the computing complexity involved in determining the orientation and RF during the online positioning phase by estimating the user's location by using a smartphone. The experimental results demonstrated that more than 78% of time was saved, and the number of samples acquired using the proposed method during the offline phase was twice as much as that acquired using the conventional method. For the online phase, the location estimates have error distances of less than 2.67 m. Therefore, the proposed approach is beneficial for use in various LBS applications.

  • Internet of Things (IoT) based sensor networks have gained unprecedented popularity in recent years. With the exponential explosion of the objects (sensors and mobiles), the bandwidth and the speed of data transmission are dwarfed by the anticipated emergence of IoT. In this paper, we propose a novel heterogeneous IoT model integrated the power line communication (PLC) and WiFi network to increase the network capacity and cope with the rapid growth of the objects. We firstly propose the mean transmission delay calculation algorithm based the 3D Markov chain according to the multi-priority of the objects. Then, the attractor selection algorithm, which is based on the adaptive behavior of the biological system, is exploited. The combined the 3D Markov chain and the attractor selection model, named MASM, can select the optimal path adaptively in the heterogeneous IoT according to the environment. Furthermore, we verify that the MASM improves the transmission efficiency and reduce the transmission delay effectively. The simulation results show that the MASM is stable to changes in the environment and more applicable for the heterogeneous IoT, compared with the other algorithms.

  • The purpose of this study was not only to develop models for teaching and learning that can guide teachers to utilize FASTEL effectively, but also to investigate the actual effectiveness of the models developed. According to a survey on satisfaction with FASTEL in rural public schools, it is not utilized as anticipated in classroom instruction despite students' high satisfaction with it and teachers' positive perceptions on its effectiveness in teaching and learning. Along this line, this study categorized rural public schools into two types and proposed a model for each type to facilitate FASTEL utilization: one for schools equipped with both FASTEL and the cutting-edge technologies like interactive whiteboard, tablet, and Wi-Fi; the other for schools equipped with FASTEL only. Eventually, the models for teaching and learning developed in this study are expected to revitalize FASTEL by providing the foundation of utilizing FASTEL in general public schools as well as rural public schools.

  • The positioning system based on wireless AP collects AP information distributed in the real world, stores it into database, and measures the position objects by comparing with searched AP information. The existing fingerprinting method is a probabilistic modeling method that acquires much of the data collected from one location upon database composition, and stores the average of the data for the sake of use it in positioning objects. Using the average value, however, may cause the probability of errors Such errors are fatal weaknesses for services based on the accurate position. This paper described the characteristics and problems of the previously used wireless AP positioning system, and proposed a method of using the AP DB and an MSS mechanism for outdoor positioning in order to solve the aforementioned problems. And the results obtained from experimental tests showed that the proposed method achieved very low error rate(27%) compared with the existing method.

  • The OTT service in Korea is not as popular as that in the U. S. This study argues that one of the major reasons of poor performance of OTT in Korea is that the OTT service providers did not acquire attracting contents, thus failing to appeal to Korean users. The other reason is Korean users are not willing to use OTT services because of high telecommunications fees to use OTT services. That is why most OTT users are using OTT services in WiFi zones, such as house, workplace, or school. This study investigated the popular OTT contents in recent three years, and how these popular OTT contents are provided in OTT service platforms, and how these contents are used in different places. The results of this study may provide several implications for OTT service providers' strategies in the future, and propose policy implications for the development of OTT services in Korea.

  • We propose a method to provide a selective VoD service during live streaming sessions. In the proposed method, each peer joined the live streaming session receives video stream packets with P2P manner and stores the packets to provide a VoD service. To mitigate the overhead of each peer node to store the video stream packets, the proposed scheme categorizes peers into three different groups based on their link types. To increase data gathering speed and reduce the network load, we also proposes the P2P transmission scheme within the same AP network for the peers with Wi-Fi link. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we implement computer simulator using NS-3. Simulation results show that the proposed method reduces the overhead about 66% and increases the P2P data gathering speed about 50% compared to the conventional schemes.

  • Emergency lights and exit signs are an indispensable part of safety precautions for effective evacuation in case of emergency in public buildings. These emergency sign indicates safe escape routes and emergency doors, using an internationally recognizable sign. However visibility of those signs drops drastically in case of emergency situations like fire smoke, etc. and loss of visibility causes serious problems for safety evacuation. This paper propose a novel emergency light and exit sign built-in with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Beacon to assist the emergency self-guiding evacuation using devices for crisis and emergency management to avoid panic condition inside the buildings. In this approach, the emergency light and exit sign with the BLE beacons deployed in the indoor environments and the smart devices detect their indoor positions, direction to move, and next exit sign position from beacon messages and interact with map server in the Internet / Intranet over the available LTE and/or Wi-Fi network connectivity. The map server generate an optimal emergency exit path according to the nearest emergency exit based on a novel graph generation method for less route computation for each smart device. All emergency exit path data interfaces among three system components, the emergency exit signs, map server, and smart devices, have been defined for modular implementation of our emergency evacuation system. The proposed exit sign experimental system has been deployed and evaluated in real-time building environment thoroughly and gives a good evidence that the modular design of the proposed exit sign system and a novel approach to compute emergency exit path route based on the BLE beacon message, map server, and smart devices is competitive and viable.
