This study analyzes the flow characteristics and sponge ball recovery performance in a ball strainer according to vortex promoter design variables through flow-particle analysis based on actual experiments to derive a method for improving the recovery rate of cleaning sponge balls of CTCS applied to existing power plants. Based on the ball strainer in CTCS used in the power plant, the experiment was conducted by changing the design factor of the improved shape. In addition, flow and particle analysis were performed under the same conditions as the experiment to numerically the flow characteristics and recovery rate in the ball strainer according to the design factor of the vortex promoter. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the recovery performance was improved by about 3% by changing the design height of the Vortex promoter. And when comparing the difference between maximum and minimum recovery rate, it was found that the effect on the recovery performance increased slightly according to the distance condition compared to the vortex promoter design height condition.
In this study, the $CO_2$ removal characteristics of the Vortex tube type absorbtion apparatus were investigated to enhance the compactness of $CO_2$ absorption process and to reduce the amount of absorbing solution of the $CO_2$ separation process. The Vortex tube with the diameter of 17 mm and the length of 250mm was introduced in the experimental apparatus to treat $20Nm^3/hr$ of $CO_2$ containing flue gas. The flue gases for experiments containing 11~13 vol% of $CO_2$ were supplied from the coal-firing CFBC power plant with 12 ton/hr of steam producing capacity. The mixed solutions of 20 wt% of MEA as base solution with the adding solutions like HMDA, AMP and KOH were used as absorbents. The experiments were executed under the various conditions like the absorbing solution concentrations in the range of 20 to 50 wt%, the flow rate of $CO_2$ containing flue gases in the range of 6 to $15Nm^3/hr$ and the flow rate of absorbing solution in the range of 1.0 to 3.0 l/min. As a results, the $CO_2$ removal efficiency of mixed absorbent of 20 wt% of MEA with HMDA was remarkable. From this study, we concluded that the efficient separation of $CO_2$ from flue gases using the features of the Vortex tube type absorbing unit for gas/liquid contact and the separation of gas/liquid be possible. But more works are needed to increase the $CO_2$ removal efficiency of Vortex tube process.

The flow characteristics and the heat transfer rate on a surface by interaction of a pair of vortices were studied experimentally. The test facility consisted of a boundary-layer wind tunnel with a vortex introduced into the flow by half-delta wings protruding from the surface. In order to control the strength of the longitudinal vortices, the angles of attack of the vortex generators were varied from - 20 degree to - 45 degree, but spacings between the vortex generators were fixed to 4 cm. The 3-dimensional mean velocity measurements were made using a five-hole pressure probe. Heat transfer measurements were made using the thermochromatic liquid to provide the local distribution of the heat transfer coefficient. Unlike common flow down, common flow up vortices moved toward the centerline as they developed and interacted strongly with each other but not with the boundary layer. Spanwise profiles of Stanton number were similar for ${\beta}=-20^{\circ}\;and\;-35^{\circ}$, but not similar for ${\beta}=-45^{\circ}$. The case of ${\beta}=-20^{\circ}\;and\;-35^{\circ}$ showed the two peak Stanton number, but the case of ${\beta}=-45^{\circ}$ showed the only one peak Stanton number.
This study carried out numerical analysis of flow field of combustion gas and sorbent to test sorbent efficiency of DSI process. To provide rapid mixing for increase utilization rate of sorbent, streamwise vorticity can be introduced into the flowing streams by other means; for example, by installing vortex generators immediately downstream of the wavy trailing edge. Computing results show that the degree of sorbent dispersion depends strongly on duct structure. Highest dispersion efficiency received when vortex generator was installed inside of duct. The results presented in this study a optimum condition for the development of practical DSI process.
We apply the nonperturbative parquet approximation method, which was previously used to study the effect of thermal fluctuations in two-dimensional vortex systems, to vortices in a layered superconductor. We set up the parquet equations for the Lawrence-Doniach model and present two different numerical methods to solve them. The results for a superconductor consisting of two and four layers are also discussed in connection with an observed first order transition line in the vortex liquid regime.
The phase transition of vortex matter from solid to liquid was studied in iron-based superconductors. Based on the traditional vortex glass theory, we have examined the magnetoresistivity data of iron-based superconductors using our extended thermal activation model: $\rho(B,T)=\rho((T-T_g(B))/(T_c(0)-T_g(B)))^{v(z-1)}$. We predict that the magnetic field-dependent area S + $S_0$ which integrates $\rho$ with T is proportional to $B^{\beta}$, where ${\beta}$ is the vortex glass transition exponent. From our calculation, the vortex glass transition exponent is 0.33, close to the exponent of area $S_0$ + S is 0.31 in $SmO_{0.9}F_{0.1}FeAs$; the exponent of area S is 0.63, which is close to the irreversibility line exponent 2/3. Both of the results show the validity of our model. In addition, our model is shown to be effective in describing irreversibility behavior in layered superconductors.
The spray structures and distribution characteristics of liquid and vapor phases in non-evaporating and evaporating Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) fuel sprays were investigated using Laser Induced Exciplex Fluorescence (LIEF) technique. Dopants were 2% fluorobenzene and 9% DEMA (diethyl-methyl-amine) in 89% solution of hexane by volume. In order to study internal structure of the spray, droplet size and velocity under non-evaporating condition were measured by Phase Doppler Anemometry (PDA). Liquid and vapor phases were visualized at different moments after the start of injection. Experimental results showed that the spray could be divided into two regions by the fluorescence intensity of liquid phase: cone and mixing regions. Moreover, vortex flow of vapor phase was found in the mixing region. About 5㎛ diameter droplets were mostly distributed in the vortex flow region. Higher concentration of vapor phase due to vaporization of these droplets was distributed in this region. Particularly, higher concentration of vapor phase and lower one were balanced within the measurement area at 2ms after the start of injection.

In a closed square cavity filled with a liquid, a cooling horizontal upper wall and a heating lower wall, the flow isn't generated under the ground-based condition when Rayleigh number is lower than 1700. In this mechanism, Ra=1534, Temperature and velocity fields near an air-bubble in silicon-oil under a cooled upper wall were investigated. Temperature and velocity fields is visualized using the thermo-sensitive liquid-crystal and light sheet visualization technique. The quantitative analysis fer the temperature and the flow fields were carried out by applying the image processing technique to the original data. The symmetry shape of two vortexes near an air bubble was observed. As the bubble size increased, the size of vortex and the magnitude of velocity increased. In spite of elapsed time, a pair of vortexes was the unique and steady-state flow in a square cavity and wasn't induced to the other flow in the surround region.
The flow-field of a liquid-metal system is very important for the safety analysis and the design of the steam generator of liquid-metal fast breeder reactor. Dynamic neutron radiography (DNR) is suitable for a visualization and measurement of a liquid metal flow and a two-phase flow in a metallic duct. However, the three dimensional DNR techniques is not enough to obtain the velocity information in the wide channel up to now. In this research, a high speed DNR technique was applied to visualize the heavy liquid-metal flow field in the narrow channel with the HANARO-beam facility. The images were taken with a high frame-rate neutron radiography at 250 fps and analyzed with a Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV) method. The images were compared with the results of the commercial CFX code to study the feasibility of DNR technique for the measuring the heavy liquid-metal flow field. The PIV images could discern the turbulent vortex flow in the two-dimensional narrow channel.
This work presents results of finite element analysis of isothermal incompressible creeping viscoelastic flows with the tensor-logarithmic formulation of the Leonov model especially for the planar geometry with singular comers in the domain. In the case of 4:1 contraction flow, for all 5 meshes we have obtained solutions over the Deborah number of 100, even though there exists slight decrease of convergence limit as the mesh becomes finer. From this analysis, singular behavior of the comer vortex has been clearly seen and proper interpolation of variables in terms of the logarithmic transformation is demonstrated. Solutions of 4:1:4 contraction/expansion flow are also presented, where there exists 2 singular comers. 5 different types spatial resolutions are also employed, in which convergent solutions are obtained over the Deborah number of 10. Although the convergence limit is rather low in comparison with the result of the contraction flow, the results presented herein seem to be the only numerical outcome available for this flow type. As the flow rate increases, the upstream vortex increases, but the downstream vortex decreases in their size. In addition, peculiar deflection of the streamlines near the exit comer has been found. When the spatial resolution is fine enough and the Deborah number is high, small lip vortex just before the exit comer has been observed. It seems to occur due to abrupt expansion of the elastic liquid through the constriction exit that accompanies sudden relaxation of elastic deformation.
