In this experiment the effects of the packing structure of pigment on the surface characteristics (smoothness and gloss) of coated paper are studied. Four different kinds of inorganic pigments(clay), ground calcium carbonate(GCC), two of precipitated calcium carbonates(PCC), and two organic pigments(solid bead and hollow type) were used. The method of measuring the relative sediment volume(RSV) was used to analyze the packing structure of coating layer. The relative sediment volume was measured, using the pressure dewatering dry-cake method(PDDM) and centrifuge method. Also, the particle size distribution of coating pigment was determined. The results showed that small amount of organic pigment, added to inorganic pigment, improved smoothness and its effect was greater when GCC was used as inorganic pigment. The efficiency of organic pigment depended upon the inorganic pigment since the organic pigment is packed in the pores formed by the inorganic pigment.
Relationships between red ceil volume $(^{51}Cr-cell)$, total blood volume (red cell volume divided by hematocrit ratio), and extracellular fluid volume (SCN distribution space) and body weight (ranging between 73 and 384 grams) or lean body mass were studied in 59 nembutalized rats. Lean body mass was determined by means of underwater weighing method on rats clipped and eviscerated. There were positive correlations between body weight or lean body mass and the absolute values (in milliliters) of body fluid volumes. Body fluid volumes expressed on the body weight or lean body mass basis, however, showed negative correlations between body weight (grams) or lean body weight (grams) with one exception. Red cell volume expressed as % lean body mass showed a positive correlation with lean body mass. The other results are summarized as follows: 1. Body density of rats was 1.0561 $(range:\;1.0123{\sim}1.0781)$ and 19.8% body weight of total body fat was obtained. The mean value of lean body mass was 80.2% body weight 2. The correlation between body weight and lean body mass was high, namely, coefficient of correlation was r=.99. 3. The correlation between the absolute value of red cell volume (ml) and body weight showed a high correlation, namely, r= 92 and between the lean body mass coefficient of correlation was r=.93. On a weight basis, red cell volume was 2.67 ml/100 gm body weight or 3.48 ml/100 gm lean body mass. The coefficient of correlation between body weight (grams) and red cell volume (% body weight) was r=-. 30. The coefficient of correlation between lean body mass (grams) and red cell volume (% lean body mass) was r=. 50. Thus, the following regression equation was obtained. Red cell volume (% lean body mass)=. 00243 Lean body mass (gm)+3. 12. 4. Total blood volume was 6.06% body weight or 7.83% lean body mass. The correlation between these blood volume values and body weight or lean body mass were negative, namely, r= -.43 and r=-.42 respectively. 5. Extracellular volume (SCN space) was 30.0% body weight or 37.2% lean body mass. These percentage values showed negative correlations between body weight or lean body mass and coefficients of correlation were r=-.40 and r=-.54 respectively. 6. The rate of increase in body weight or lean body mass is accompanied by a smaller rate of increase in blood volume and extracellular fluid volume. The rate of increase in red ceil volume paralled that of lean body mass.
This paper is dedicated to the thermoelastic modeling and dynamic response of the rotating blades made of functionally graded ceramic-metal based materials. The blades modeled as non-uniform thin walled beams fixed at the hub with various selected values of setting angles and pre-twisted angles. In this study, the blade is rotating with a constant angular velocity and exposed to a steady temperature field as well as external excitation. Moreover, the effect of the temperature gradient through the blade thickness is considered. Material properties are graded in the thickness direction of the blade according to the volume fraction power law distribution. The numerical results highlight the effects of the volume fraction, temperature gradient, taper ratio, setting angle and pre-twisted angle on the dynamic response of bending-bending coupled beam characteristics are provided for the case of a biconvex cross section and pertinent conclusions are outlined.
A numerical simulation was conducted to analyze the interaction of flame and vortices. The characteristic scales of flame and vortices were limited in the thin laminar flamelet regime. Within this regime, flame is assumed as discontinuity surface and its motion in flow field was described by G-equation instead of full governing equations. Additional approximations include distribution of line volume sources on flame surface to simulate effect of volume expansion. Contrast to previous calculations, current study employed vortex transport equation to evaluate attenuation and smearing of vortices. Two extreme conditions of frozen vortex and frozen flame were considered to validate the current method. Comparison with direct numerical simulation resulted in satisfactory quantitative agreement with higher computational efficiency which warrants the usefulness of the present model in more complex situation.

This work is to investigate the surface heat flux and combustion characteristics of premixed propane mixture in a constant volume chamber. The experiment of heat flux and combustion characteristics of premixed propane mixture are performed with various equivalence ratio and initial pressure conditions. Based on the experimental results, it is found that the maximum instantaneous temperature is increased with the increase of initial pressure in the chamber. There are significant differences in the burning velocity of premixed propane mixture at different measuring points in the constant volume combustion chamber. A]so, the trends of temperature difference at each measuring points are similar to the burning velocity in the combustion chamber. It is concluded that the total heat loss during the combustion period is affected by the equivalence ratio and the initial condition of fuel-air mixture.
We determine the effective viscosity of suspensions with bidisperse particle size distribution by modifying an effective-medium theory that was proposed by Acrivos and Chang (1987) for monodisperse suspensions. The modified theory uses a simple model that captures some important effects of multi-particle hydrodynamic interactions. The modifications are described in detail in the present study. Estimations of effective viscosity by the modified theory are compared with the results of prior work for monodisperse and bidisperse suspensions. It is shown that the estimations agree very well with experimental or other calculated results up to approximately 0.45 of normalized particle volume fraction which is the ratio of volume faction to the maximum volume fraction of particles for bidisperse suspensions.
Aluminum alloy matrix composites reinforced by SiC particles were prepared by rheocompocasting, a process which consists of the incoporation and distribution of reinforcement by stirring within a semi-solid alloy. When the volume fraction of SiCp and stirring speed were fixed, the dispersion of SiCp in Al-matrix alloy depended on stirring time and solid volume fraction in slurry. The results were as follows : 1) As a dispersed SiCp during stirring at $647^{\circ}C$ in 6063-Al alloy, SiC was better dispersed than that other temperature, where solid volume fraction was 43% in slurry. 2) When increased solid fraction in slurry, rate of dispersing SiC increased during stirring and porosities decreased in matrix alloy after casting. 3) Inspite of stirring with 800rpm, since solid particles of matrix alloy in slurry joined each other and occured joining growth, so that SiC was not dispersed into solid particle.

The general topology optimization can be considered as optimal material distribution. Such an approach can be unstable, unless composite materials are introduced. In this research, a nodal volume fraction method is used to obtain the optimum topology of continuum structures. This method is conducted from a composite material model composed of isotropic matter and spherical void. Because the appearance of the chessboard patterns makes the interpretation of the optimal material layout very difficult, this method contains a chessboard prevention strategy. In this research, several topology optimization problems are presented to demonstrate the validity of the present method and the recursive quadratic programming algorithm is used to solve the topology optimization problems.
The incomplete saturation and the void formation during the resin infiltration into fibrous porous media in the resin transfer molding process cause failure in the final product during its service. In order to better understand flow behavior during the filling process, a finite-element scheme for transient flow simulation across the micro-structured fibrous media is developed in the present work. A volume-of- fluid (VOF) method has been incorporated in the Eulerian frame to capture the evolution of flow front and the vertical periodic boundary condition has been combined to avoid unwanted wall effect. In the microscale simulation, we investigated the transient filling process in various fiber structures and discussed the mechanism leading to the flow fingering in the case of random fiber distribution. Effects of the filling pressure, the shear-thinning behavior of fluid and the volume fraction on the flow front have been investigated for both intra-tow and the inter-tow flows in dual-scale fiber tow models.
