  • When power consumption increases, power supply must be efficient and reliable for good power quality. The studies on compensation system of power quality are processing actively. Voltage sag among of factors for power quality is generally PI dual control that voltage sag compensation is used. But this control is no more available since of 120[KHz] ripple rejection. So we proposed the control algorithm using PID control in 3-phase unbalanced power system and the series voltage compensator, when voltage sag occurs.

  • Recently, standard of living improved and Information-Communication industry developed rapidly. Thereby, interest about electric power quality is rising worldwide. So, research and Development to enhance electric power quality in various viewpoint until most suitable supply system from each kind device to improve electric power quality. And specially, interest about voltage quality is rising by diffusion increase of information communication appliance and minuteness control appliance etc. Also Power consumption is increasing, but expansion of large size generator by environmental and site security problem is difficult. So, introduction of distribution generation is investigated actively by electric-power industry reorganization. Voltage management of power system had been controlled by ULTC (Under Load Tap Changer) in substation and pole transformer on the high voltage distribution line. But, voltage control device on substation and distribution line is applied each other separatively. Therefore, efficiency of line voltage control equipment is dropping. Also, research about introduction upper limit of distribution generation is consisting continuously. This paper presents cooperation use way between voltage control device and introduction upper limit of distribution generation for most suitable voltage control in distribution power system.

  • A phase shift algorithm based on the closed-loop control of dc-link voltage implemented on a series active voltage quality regulator (AVQR) is proposed in this paper. To avoid pumping-up the dc-link voltage, a general phase shift compensation strategy is applied. The relationships among the operation variables are discussed in detail, which is very important for guiding the design of both the main circuit and the control system. Then on the basis of an investigation of the dc-link voltage pumping-up from viewpoint of the active power flow, a novel phase shift control method based on the closed-loop of the dc-link voltage is proposed. This method can adjust the phase of the output voltage gradually and automatically according to the dc-link voltage variation without introducing a phase jump. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy is verified through simulations of a single-phase 5kVA prototype and laboratory experiments on both a single-phase 5kVA and a three-phase 15kVA prototype.

  • In this paper, a new control algorithm for the dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) is proposed to regulate the load terminal voltage during various power quality problems that include sag, swell, harmonics and unbalance in the voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC). The proposed control strategy is an Adaline (Adaptive linear element) Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and is used to control a capacitor supported DVR for power quality improvement. A capacitor supported DVR does not need any active power during steady state because the voltage injected is in quadrature with the feeder current. The control of the DVR is implemented through derived reference load terminal voltages. The proposed control strategy is validated through extensive simulation studies using the MATLAB software with its Simulink and SimPower System (SPS) toolboxes. The DVR is found suitable to support its dc bus voltage through the control under various disturbances.

  • Voltage sags are one of the most frequently occurring power quality problems challenging power systems today. The Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) is one of the major custom power solutions that are capable of mitigating the effect of supply voltage sags at the load or Point of Common Coupling (PCC). A UPQC-Q employs a control method in which the series compensator injects a voltage that leads the supply current by $90^{\circ}C$ so that the series compensator at steady state consumes no active power. However, the UPQC-Q has the disadvantage that its series compensator needs to be overrated. Thus it cannot offer effective compensation. This paper proposes a new control scheme for the UPQC-Q that offers minimum power injection. The proposed minimum power injection method takes into consideration the limits on the rated voltage capacity of the series compensator and its control scheme. The validity of the proposed control scheme is investigated through simulation and experimental results.

  • This paper presents an IHQRR (Integrated High Quality Rectifier Regulator) BIFRED (Boost Integrated Flyback Rectifier Energy Storage DC-DC) converter fed BLDC (Brushless DC) motor drive. A reduced sensor topology is derived by utilizing a BIFRED converter to operate in a dual DCM (Discontinuous Conduction Mode) thus utilizing a voltage follower approach for the PFC (Power Factor Correction) and voltage control. A new approach for speed control is proposed using a single voltage sensor. The speed of the BLDC motor drive is controlled by varying the DC link voltage of the front end converter. Moreover, fundamental frequency switching of the VSI's (Voltage Source Inverter) switches is used for the electronic commutation of the BLDC motor which reduces the switching losses in the VSI. The proposed drive is designed for a wide range of speed control with an improved power quality at the AC mains which falls within the recommended limits imposed by international power quality standards such as IEC 61000-3-2.

  • Industrial Static Var Generator (SVG) is typically applied at or near the load center to mitigate voltage fluctuation, flicker, phase unbalance, non-sine distortion or other load-related disturbance. Special attention is paid to the influence of grid voltage quality on SVG current, the non-sine distortion and unbalance of grid voltage causes not only the AC current distortion and unbalance but also the DC voltage fluctuation. In order to let the inverter voltage contain the fundamental negative sequence and harmonic component corresponding to the grid voltage, a new dual-loop control scheme is proposed to suppress the influence in this paper. The harmonic and negative sequence voltage decomposition algorithm and DC voltage control are also introduced. All these analyses can guide the practical applications. The simulation results verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the present control strategy and analyses.

  • In-phase control and energy-optimized control are the two major control strategies proposed for series power quality controllers (SPQC). However quantitative analysis and comparison between these two control strategies is quite limited in previous publications. In this paper, an extensive quantitative analysis is carried out on these two control strategies through phasor diagram approach, and a detailed quantitative comparison is conducted accordingly. The load current is used as the reference phasor, and this leads to a simpler and clearer phasor diagram for the quantitative relationship. Subsequently detailed analysis of SPQC using in-phase control and energy-optimized control are provided respectively, under different modes both for under voltage/voltage sag and for over voltage/voltage swell. The closed form analytic expressions and the curves describing SPQC compensation characteristics are obtained. The detailed system power flow is figured out for each mode, and the detailed quantitative comparison between the two control strategies is then carried out. The comparison covers several aspects of SPQC, such as required compensating voltage magnitude, required capacity of energy storage component, and maximal ride-through time. In the end, computer simulation and prototype experimental results are shown to verify the validity of all the analysis and the result of the comparison.

  • This paper proposes a simplified and efficient control scheme for Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) based on three-level (NPC) inverter capable to mitigate source current harmonics and compensate all voltage disturbances perturbations such us, voltage sags, swells, unbalances and harmonics. The UPQC is designed by the integration of series and shunt active filters (AFs) sharing a common dc bus capacitor. The dc voltage is maintained constant using proportional integral voltage controller. The shunt and series AF are designed using a three-phase three-level (NPC) inverter. The synchronous reference frame (SRF) theory is used to get the reference signals for shunt and the power reactive theory (PQ) for a series APFs. The reference signals for the shunt and series APF are derived from the control algorithm and sensed signals are injected in tow controllers to generate switching signals for series and shunt APFs. The performance of proposed UPQC system is evaluated in terms of power factor correction and mitigation of voltage, current harmonics and all voltage disturbances compensation in three-phase, three-wire power system using MATLAB-Simulink software and SimPowerSystem Toolbox. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed UPQC system can improve the power quality at the common connection point of the non-linear load.

  • The voltage unbalance of an LVDC bipolar distribution system was controlled for high power quality. Voltage unbalance may occur in a bipolar distribution system depending on the operation of the converter and load usage. Voltage unbalance can damage sensitive load and lead to converter accidents. The conditions that may cause voltage unbalance in a bipolar distribution system are as follows. First, three-level AC/DC converters in bipolar distribution systems can lead to voltage unbalance. Second, bipolar distribution systems can be at risk for voltage unbalance because of load usage. In this paper, the output DC link of a three-level AC/DC converter was analyzed for voltage unbalance, and the bipolar voltage was controlled with algorithms. In the case of additional voltage unbalance according to load usage, the bipolar voltage was controlled using the proposed converter. The proposed converter is a dual half-bridge converter, which was improved from the secondary circuit of a dual half-bridge converter. A control algorithm for bipolar voltage control without additional converters was proposed. The balancing control of the bipolar distribution system with distributed power was verified through experiments.
