A Comparison Study on Isoprene Emission Rates from Oak Trees in Summer (여름철 참나무속의 이소프렌 배출속도 비교에 관한 연구)

  • In order to compare the NVOC (Natural Volatile Organic Compound) emission rates from oak trees, the emission rates of isoprene were quantitatively measured in situ based on tree species and region. As a result, the emission rates from Quercus serrata T. were found to be 1000 times greate. than those from Quercus acutissima C. However, the emission rates at the Chili and Gumsung mountain sites did not show any significant differences in summer. Cuvette tests using four different oak species also supported that there was a tremendous difference in emission rates between Quercus serrata T. and Quercus acutissima C. It was found that the emission rates from the trees were highest on the order of Quercus serrata T., Quercus aliena B., Quercus acutissima C. and Quercus variabilis B.

Decomposition of Trchloroethylene/Air Mixture by Electron Beam Irradiation in a Flow Reactor (전자빔을 이용한 흐름반응기에서의 Trichloroethylene/Air 분해)

  • Decomposition of trichloroethlyene(TCE) in electron beam irradiation was examined on order to obtain information on the treatment of VOC in air. Air containing vaporized TCE has been studied in a flow reactor with different reaction environments, at various initial TCE concentration and in the presence and absence of water vapor. Maximum decomposition was observed in oxygen reaction environment and the degree of decomposition was about 99% at 20kGy for 2,000ppm initial TCE. The concentration of TCE exponentially decreased with dose in air and pure oxygen. The effect of water vapor on TCE decomposition efficiency was examined. The decomposition rate of TCE in the presence of water vapor (5,600 ppm) was approximately 10% higher than that in the absence of water vapor. Dichloroacetic acid, dichloroacethyl chloride and dichloroethyl ester acid were identified as primary products of this reaction adn were decomposed and oxidized to yield CO and $CO_2$. Perchloroethylene, hexachloroethane, chloroform and carbon tetrachloride were also observed as highly chlorinat-ed by products.

  • This study focused on the emission rate of the construction materials. The method of study is as follows. First, validation of small chamber method to determine emission rate of construction material was performed by CFD simulation. For the result of this study, uniform air velocity in small chamber was founded, and small chamber as a test material for emission rate was validated. Second, the construction materials were categorized by their feature and the emission rate of volatile organic compound was determined. Totally, VOCs emission rate of 49 materials were determined.

  • 오늘날 대기환경에 존재하는 여러 오염물질 중에서 오존의 생성과 밀접한 관련이 있는 질소산화물과 휘발성유기화합물 (volatile organic compound, VOC)의 대기 환경학적 역할의 중요성이 점차 부각되고 있다 (Liu et al., 2000.   • Dichlorobenzen과 같은 휘발성 유기물질(Volatile Organic Compound)은 산업폐수 및 폐가스, 폐기물등이 다양한 형태로 대기 중에 존재하면서 심각한 환경문제를 유발시키고 있다 따라서, 본 연구에서는 TiO$_2$에 SiO$_2$를 첨가하여 열처리시 anatase상에서 rutile상으로 전이되는 것을 제어하며 비표면적을 크게 하여 휘발성유기 물질에 대한 광촉매 활성을 증진시키고자 두가지 합성방법, 즉 졸겔 공정과 수열합성 공정을 사용하여, 공정조건을 변화시키면서, 광촉매활성이 가장 우수한 실험조건을 결정하였다.

  • The purposes of daily cover are to control odor and volatile organic compound emissions, to control litters, to mitigate rainfall infiltration. Under usual operation of landfill, the soil layer of 15cm thick is used for daily cover, but about $20{\sim}$25% of landfill capacity is consumed by daily cover volume. Considering our limited land and difficulty in getting landfill site, developing an alternative daily cover material which usually occupies much less volume than soil will be very significant. Also, if we can use waste material for alternative daily cover, we can get additional benefit of recycling waste.

  • Consumers primarily consider flavor when they take yogurt. Recent researches on yogurt flavor productron its analytical technique have been extensively developed. These studies have provided a better understanding on the role of starter culture microorganisms on flavor formation and degradation. Yogurt volatile flavor compounds produced by the lactic cultures include acetaldehyde, diacetyl, ethanol and organic acid. Among them, acetaldehyde is recognized as a principal flavor component. since yogurt contains a delicate and low intense flavor, mild sample isolation techniques and sensitive identification means might be used. This paper attempts to discuss recent findings in yogurt flavor and to describe the application of yogurt flavor separation techniques. The section on practical aspects of culture selection based on flavor compound production and flavor analysis is also included.

  • Formaldehyde, an indoor volatile organic compound, is considered toxic due to its carcinogenic risk. Recently, we isolated a formaldehyde-degrading bacterium Pseudomonas sp. YK-32. A crude enzyme prepared from YK-32 also degraded formaldehyde, suggesting that YK-32 cells have formaldehyde hydrogenase activity which is one of the important factors in formaldehyde degradation. The formaldehyde hydrogenase activity was increased 1.25 fold by adding 0.1 % glucose and formaldehyde to the culture medium. In addition, treatment with 1 mM EDTA as a permeabilizer promoted the degradation of formaldehyde and increased the enzymatic activity.

  • Amenity is an essential factor of Modern Apartment. But because of many chemical products and noxious volatile organic compound(VOC) used in the apartment, many people are exposed to them. This fact implies that there can be many disease caused by them. Therefore to reduce pollutant matters inducing sick house syndrom, measures for new furniture and apartment dweller were suggested in this study.
