A way of undertaking a research phase in graphic design (그래픽디자인 리서치 수행에 관한 연구)

  • This paper highlights the importance of design research and encourages an understanding of design tools that engage society and people. Twenty groups, a total of sixty students, were asked to participate in this project and they used an IDEO tool kit. A total of three surveys were given. One survey was given to the participants before participating in the project and another after the project. The last survey was given to six experts to evaluate the students' work. Preliminary analysis found that students, prior to participating in the project, replied heavily on Internet research and a literature review, and did not display a structured research process. Primary analysis showed that the groups that spent more time on research and utilised design tools performed better, particularly those utilising 'observation' techniques.

  • The purpose of this study was to comparatively analyze advertisements of prestigious products and domestic fashion brands through fashion magazines. Especially, a comparative analysis of creative advertising strategies of prestigious products and fashion brands will be vital in establishing advertising strategies and marketing planning of domestic fashion brands. This study targeted and analyzed all the advertisements of prestigious fashion products and domestic career women's high-end casual brands printed in VOGUE KOREA and ELLE KOREA in 2005 and 2006. Descriptive statistics and x2-test were used. As a result of the analysis, prestigious product advertisements accounted for 197 (57.9%), and domestic fashion 143 (42.1%) out of a total of 764. Except for duplicates, the 340 advertisements analyzed, were selected for this study. Luxury fashion brand advertising accounted for more than domestic fashion brands in the magazines studied. That is luxury fashion brands have greater exposure to consumers. Based on the results drawn in this study for fashion products, various and unique advertising strategies utilizing visual factors that most effectively delivered to consumers are imminently needed as creative strategy measures in domestic fashion advertising.

  • This study analyzes MMORPG in user's desire perspective and tried to find specific motivation factors. In research result, character has been separated in user character, another user character, boss monster and support character. And character's factor analysis yielded three factors: visual attraction, psychological propensity and competence. The result of the regression analysis about character's motivation factor show that it is significantly different that motivation level and motivation factors from each character. This finding implies that specific motivation factors can serve to make strategy for motivate user's game playing.

A Study on Theo van Doesburg's Plastic Experiments with Colored Planes (반 두즈버르그의 색면 조형 실험에 관한 연구)

  • This research is to find out the characteristics and significance of the plastic experiments with colored planes in Theo van Doesburg's works. Based on the analysis, the following results have been obtained. First, Thea van Doesburg's plastic experiments with colored planes started from the paintings in 1916-1918. series and series were made of the ion of still life or human motion. These paintings were intended to make effects of rhythm, acceleration and simultaneity. Second, he colored the outer and inner architectural surface with primary colors. The expression of visual. rhythm on the color design for De Vonk, Districts Housing Projects VIII & IX in Spangen, Multi-Housing in Oosterstraat, Friesian Housing, Landbouw Winter School, and University Hall in Amsterdam embodied the concept of painting-in-architecture. Third, the field of these experiments were extended into the architectural space. As a results, $H\hat{o}tel$ Particulier and Maison d'Artiste was shown on the Architectural Exhibition in Paris in 1923. The colored planes were used as a construction material. They generated the dynamic space in architecture. Fourth, through the pictorial works like Architectural Analysis, Contra-Composition, Simultaneous Composition or Simultaneous Contra-Composition, Tesseract and Aubette Cinema-Dancing Hall, he created the concepts of simultaneous integration including nature and the environments as well as space-time in the architecture.

  • 'Colored hearing' occurs to those who caused confusion in the visual, auditory path to brain because pruning had not normally done in the growth phase. It is called as 'colored hearing'. 'Colored hearing' is a phenomenon which some people can see colors when they hear sounds. In the interview of video, art experts say that the phenomenon is a natural talents, however professionals in the medical field say that the disorder may be causing a major disruption to daily life. Usually people are unknowingly suffering from synesthesia phenomenon. In this paper, based on the video, we show the phenomenon of 'colored hearing' based on the results of scientific research and on the daily life, and also analyze the video from the viewpoint of the editors and the audience.

Wilson-Bappu Effect: Extended to Surface Gravity

  • Wilson and Bappu found a tight correlation between the stellar absolute visual magnitude (MV) and the width of the Ca II K emission line for late-type stars in 1957. Here, we revisit the Wilson-Bappu relationship (hereafter, WBR) to claim that WBR can be an excellent indicator of stellar surface gravity of late-type stars as well as a distance indicator. We have measured the width (W) of the Ca II K emission line in high resolution spectra of 125 late-type stars, which were obtained with Bohyunsan Optical Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) and adopted from the UVES archive. Based on our measurement of the emission line width (W), we have obtained a WBR of $M_V=33.76-18.00{\log}W$. In order to extend the WBR to be a surface gravity indicator, the stellar atmospheric parameters such as effective temperature ($T_{eff}$), surface gravity (logg), metallicity ([Fe/H]), and micro-turbulence (${\xi}_{tur}$) have been derived from the self-consistent detailed analysis using the Kurucz stellar atmospheric model and the abundance analysis code, MOOG. Using these stellar parameters and logW, we found that ${\log}g=-5.85\;{\log}W+9.97\;{\log}T_{eff}-23.48$ for late-type stars.

  • omputer and the Internet (online) services have rapidly been developed and evolved over the last 10 years. They also reduce time and costs in many parts of human life. Yet, a range of adoption and expression has been segmented as a piece of information is diversified. Particularly, while this segmentized information can be integrated according to fields, it is hard for users to aware it at a glance. Therefore, this study aims to improve and analyze programs that have been developed in a variety of ways from the existing unified design of GUI as the UIs of the Internet and programs have become accentuated recently so that it could suggest the importance of user-oriented UI designs.

  • Instagram, image based visual SNS platform is regarded as one of the most effective marketing channels and the number of users are getting increased. To enhance of our understanding of general current use and customer attitude through Instagram accounts owned by fashion brands depending on user attributes, the present study investigates factors that current status of use, purpose of use, brand attitude, purchase intension, and recommend intension. A survey method was conducted for empirical test. A convenience sample of 100 participants was used for data analysis. SPSS 18.0 was used for statistical analysis. Findings of this study suggest that first, the very purpose of access is to grasp fashion trend, second, a group of the high interest in fashion accesses to Instagram account of fashion brands more often, uses Instagram for information search more than other group and has a positive influence on recommend intension, third, a group of the high frequent access accesses Instagram for purpose of information search more and has a positive influent on values on customer attitude and the last, partial purposes of utilization and benefits sought of Instagram of fashion brands has a positive influence on customer attitude.

An Analysis on Floor Planning Characteristics of Rural Houses in Na-po Munwha Village - A Comparison with Literature Review of Apartment Unit Plan - (나포 문화마을 주택의 평면적 특성 분석 - 도시 아파트 평면 특성의 문헌고찰 비교 -)

  • This study was to find out contemporary planning characteristics of rural houses in Na-po Munhwa village by analyzing their floor plans. These results were then compared with apartment housing trends. 240 houses were built in that village, but it was only possible to collect housing data, floor plans and general building records from 102 houses, using house registers. By analyzing those data, the findings were as follows: 1) Floor plan shapes of rural houses showed a tendency to words a 'ㅋ' shape, a 3bay or a transformed 3 bay and a "room-living-room" space arrangement of a centered living room. Public spaces (L.D.K) were separately planned DK from livingroom. Living space was very open and the DK space had created visual privacy from the entrance. The Anbang (master bedroom) and living space were set to the front of the floor plan and an interior toilet was planned in them. These floor-planning tendencies were similar to trend apartment houses in urban areas. 2) Utility and Balcony spaces as a support space of kitchen were not popular features of rural houses in the Munhwa village. These results were different from urban apartment housing trends. 5) Storage space practically absent in those rural houses, and this was similar to urban the trends in urban apartment houses.

An Analysis on the Research Method of Elderly Residents' Opinion towards the Physical Environments of the Facilities for the Elderly : Focusing on Foreign Academic Journal Articles since 1990 (노인시설의 물리적 환경에 대한 거주노인 의견 조사방법의 분석 : 1990년 이후 해외 학술논문자료를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide information for research about residents' opinion toward the physical environments of elderly facilities, through the analysis and investigation on the research methodology of foreign academic journal articles from 1990 to 2014. The study results were as follows: Firstly, purposive sampling was a large majority of both facilities and elderly residents. In quantitative studies, many researchers have conducted simple random, cluster, or stratified sampling. Diverse facilities in area, size, location, and etc. should be considered for participation. The qualifications for residents' participation should be considered as well, so that they all could have autonomy for study participation. Secondly, questionnaire and semi-structured guide were likely to be used in independent and resident care facilities. On the other hand in assisted living and long-term care facilities, open questions and visual material were used as well. A compatible scale should be developed so that elderly having variable functional level could participate independently in the study. Thirdly, in data collection process, compliance with research ethics and well trained interviewer's skill were important for residents' active responses and minimization of response errors. Enough research period of time and mixed study in data collection will decrease the response error.
