  • P2P Video-on-Demand (VoD) is becoming a popular service in the Internet. The first deployments are already in place, and millions of customers worldwide are already using this new medium. But its success is still quite limited and technically, these researches have been deployed in a rush, mostly based on practicality and instability. This paper studies the advantages and potential problems of VoD in peer-to-peer (P2P) network, we propose a system which uses a distributed VoD streaming scheme over P2P network to support media streaming.

  • It is difficult to provide a video on demand (VoD) service to a large number of users via the Internet. This is due to the characteristics of VoD, which require a large bandwidth for a long playing time. The Peer-to-Peer (P2P) concept is proposed to increase the scalability of the VoD service. Many studies have been undertaken to solve this problem. But its success is still quite limited technically, these research have been deployed in a rush, mostly based on practicality and instability. A system which uses a distributed VoD streaming scheme over P2P network is proposed to support media streaming.

  • VOD(Video On Demand) that provides streaming service according to the user's requirement in real time, consists of the video streaming server and the client system. Since it is very hard to apply the traditional server-client model that a server communicates with many clients through 1:1 connection to VOD system because it requires very high network bandwidth, many researches have been done to address this problem. Batching technique is one of VOD system based on Multicast that requires very small network bandwidth. However, the batching based VOD system has a limitation that it is very hard to provide VCR(Video Cassette Recorder) ability. In this paper, we propose a technique that reduces the required network bandwidth to provide VCR function by using the characteristic of MPEG, one of international video compression standard. In the proposed technique, a new video stream for VCR function is constructed with I pictures that is able to be decoded independently. The new video stream for VCR function is transmitted with the video stream for normal play together in Batching manner. The performance evaluation result shows that the proposed technique not only reduces the required network bandwidth and memory usage but also decreases the CPU usages.

  • VOD(video on demand) is a video service by users' order, that is, a video service on demand. That means the users can select and watch the video content that has been saved on sewer, out of broadcasting in the usual process like TV. At present the client of VOD system bases on PC. As the PC-based client uses the software MPEG decoder, the main processor specification has an effect on the capacity. Also people, who don't know how to use their PC, cannot be provided the VOD service. The purpose of this paper is to show the process of the development the VOD client system Into the embedded type with hardware MPEG-4 decoder. The main processor is the SC1200 of x86 Family in National Semiconductor with a built-in video processor and the memory is 128Mbyte SDRAM. Also, in order that the VOD service can be provided using the Internet, the Ethernet controller is included. As the hardware MPEG-4 decoder is used in the embedded VOD client system, which is developed, it can make the low capacity of the main processor. Therefore it is able to be developed as a low-price system. The embedded VOD client system is easy for anyone to control easily with the remote control and can be played through TV.

  • A wireless MAC scheduler for CDMA2000 IxEV-DO that provides a high level of quality-of-service(QoS) for video-on-demand(VOD) applications while achieving a reasonable level of system throughput is proposed, The proposed scheduler that exists in the MAC layer utilizes the video data information that resides in the application layer such that it improves the QoS for VOD applications. We show by simulations that our approach is better than the previous scheduler which is also based on video traces for VBR videos that have high variability between video frames.

  • This paper propose a solution to resolve data overflow or leakage when a subscriber receive data to service provider. The set-top box can communicate with a service provider and can inform the service provider its data overflow or leakage. When service provider received this control signal, it changes data transmit rate and transmits data with changed rate. The buffer of set-top box is important because incoming data from a service provider are stored by it.

  • In this paper, a VOD(Video -on-Demand) system is implemented using LAN(Local Area Network). The use of LAN causes the time-delay problem due to its narrow channel limitation, as a result, the service using the conventional LAN used not to be popular. In this paper, to solve these problems, we develop the modified topology, the selection methodology of the network equipment, and the dedicated(improved) protocol. Consequently, we can serve at most 3 or 4 clients at the same time, and we conclude it is necessary to optimize the network buffer size depending on the size of video data.

  • 기존의 인터넷 기반 데이터 서비스는 'Best-effort' 정책으로 멀티미디어 서비스를 위한 트래픽 제어(traffic control) 기능을 제공하지 못한다. 그러므로 실시간 데이터 전송을 기반으로 제공되는 VOD(Video-on-Demand) 서비스는 사용자가 원하는 QoS(Quality of Service)를 제공할 수 없다. 따라서 인터넷 상에서 트래픽 제어 기능을 갖춘 중개자를 두어 VOD 서비스를 제공하는 방법에 대해 제안한다. 중개자의 주요 기능은 비디오 서버와 클라이언트 사이에 비디오 데이터의 버퍼링 기능을 이용하여 실시간 트래픽 제어를 수행한다. 이런 기능을 가진 중개자를 에이전트라 부르고, 에이전트에 대한 설계 및 구현에 대해 기술한다.

  • As the e-learning spreads widely and demands on the internet video service, transmitting video data for many users over the Internet becomes popular. To satisfy this needs, the traditional approach uses a tree structure that uses the video server as the root node. However, this approach has the danger of stopping the video service even when one of the nodes along the path has a some problem. In this paper, we propose a video-on-demand service that uses multiple paths. We add new paths for backup and speed up for transmitting the video data. We show by simulation experiments that our approach provides a high-quality of video service.
