In this paper, a general solution for the vibrational energy and intensity distribution through a compliant and dissipative joint between plate structures is derived on the basis of energy flow analysis (EFA). The joints are modeled by four sets of springs and dashpots to show their compliancy and dissipation in all four degrees of freedom. First, for the EFA, the power transmission and reflection coefficients for the joint on coupled plate structures connected at arbitrary angles were derived by the wave transmission approach. In numerical applications, EFA is performed using the derived coefficients for coupled plate structures under various joint properties, excitation frequencies, coupling angles, and internal loss factors. Numerical results of the vibrational energy distribution showed that the developed compliant and dissipative joint model successfully predicted the joint characteristics of practical structures vibrating in the medium-to-high frequency ranges. Moreover, the intensity distribution of a compliant and dissipative joint is described.
A major concern on high-energy centrifugal pump is the potential for interaction of two-phase flow phenomena with mechanical response of the pumping elements. The other concern is the pressure pulsations created from trailing edge of the impeller blade and flow separation and recirculation at partial load in centrifugal pumps. These interactions generating between rotor and casing cause dynamic pulsation on pump and exciting pipeline vibration. The higher severity responses, the more lead to failure of pump and system components. Finally, it cause severe axial vibration of single stage pump due to the hydraulic instability in flow condition below BEP.
In this paper, the new algorithm which eliminates structural noise and extracts the impact signature from the measured vibration signal is developed. We studied how the transient vibration signal due to the impact is distorted while propagating through the structure. Also the characteristics of noise generated by flow and the mechanical components are analyzed. The developed method is verified in the model plenum and the flow system in the laboratory. Results show the significant improvement in the sensitivity and accuracy.
The attenuation of waves transmitted through non-conservative joints that are shown in many paractical structures, is affected by the impedance and the orientation of the joint. In this paper, the joints between plate structures are assumed to be modeled as linear spring-dashpot systems and the transmission and reflection of vibration energy in the medium to high frequency ranges are investigated. The calculated power transmission and reflection coefficients are applied to the PFA method for the prediction of energy density and intensity in structures.
Hermetic rotary compressor is one of the most Important components for air conditioning system since it has a great effect on both the performance and the noise and vibration of He system. Noise and vibration of rotary compressor is occurred due to gas pulsation during compression process and unbalanced dynamic force. In order to reduce noise and vibration. it is necessary to identify sources of noise and vibration and effectively control then. Many approaches have been tried to identify noise sources of compressor. However, compressor noise source identification has proven to be difficult since the characteristics of compressor noise are complicated due to the interaction of the compressor parts and gas pulsation. In this work, Statistical Energy Analysis has been used to trace the energy flow in the compressor and identify transmission paths from the noise source to the sound field.
Recent year, the vibration induced fatigue and noise of piping work become critical in offshore hydrocarbon production facilities with increasing requests by major oil company. In this paper, the risk base piping vibration induced fatigue assessment of NORSOK L-002 standard and UK Energy Institute guideline have been introduced with real project application practice. Also the piping breakout noise evaluation by flow restriction devices of compressible and in-compressible flow are reviewed with its practical application on real project.
The concept of structural vibration control is to absorb vibration energy of the structure by introducing auxiliary devices. Various types of structural vibration control theories and devices have been recently developed and introduced into mechanical systems. One of such devices is damper employing controllable fluids such as ElectroRheological (ER) or MagnetoRheological (MR) fluids. MagnetoRheological (MR) materials are suspensions of fine magnetizable ferromagnetic particles in a non-magnetic medium exhibiting controllable rheological behaviour in the presence of an applied magnetic field. This paper presents the modelling of an MRfluid damper. The damper model is developed based on Newtonian shear flow and Bingham plastic shear flow models. The geometric parameters are varied to get the optimised damper characteristics. The numerical analysis is carried out to estimate the damping coefficient and damping force. The analytical results are compared with the experimental results. The results confirm that MR damper is one of the most promising new semi-active devices for structural vibration control.
