Accurate seismic analyses of large deformable moving structures are still unsolved problems in the field of earthquake engineering. In order to analyze these problems, the nonlinear finite element method formulated by the absolute nodal coordinate approach is noticed. Because, this formulation has several advantages over the standard procedures on mass matrix, elastic forces and damping forces in the case of large displacement problems. But, it has not been fully studied to build frame structure models by using beam elements in the absolute nodal coordinate formulation. In this paper, we propose the connecting method of the beam elements formulated by the absolute nodal coordinate. The coordinate transformation matrix of this element is introduced into the frame structure. This beam element has the characteristic that the mass matrix and bending stiffiness matrix are constant even if in the case of large displacement problems, and this characteristic is being kept after the transformation. In order to verify the proposed method, we show the numerical simulation results of frame structures for a vibration problem and a large displacement problem.

An approximate method based on an assumed mode method has been presented for the free vibration analysis of a rectangular plate with arbitrary edge constraints. In the presented method, natural frequencies and their mode shapes of the plate are calculated by solving an eigenvalue problem of a multi-degree-of-freedom system matrix equation derived by using Lagrange's equations of motion. Characteristic orthogonal polynomials having the property of Timoshenko beam functions which satisfies edge constraints corresponding to those of the objective plate are used. In order to examine the accuracy of the proposed method, numerical examples of the rectangular plates with various thicknesses and edge constraints have been presented. The results have shown good agreement with those of other methods such as an analytic solution, an approximate solution, and a finite element analysis.

This paper deals with a novel shunted actuator, which has a capability to suppress multi-mode vibration amplitudes by using a pair of piezoceramic patches. In order to describe the characteristic behaviors of shunted dampers connected with a series and a parallel resistor-negative capacitive branch circuit, the stiffness ratio and loss factor with respect to the non-dimensional frequency are considered. To obtain a guideline model of a piezo/beam system connected with a series and a parallel resistor-negative capacitor branch circuit, the governing equations of motion is derived through Hamiltons principle and a piezo sensor equation as well as a shunt damping matrix is developed. The theoretical analysis shows that the shunted actuator developed in this study can significantly reduce multiple-mode vibration amplitudes simultaneously over the whole structural frequency range.

Measurement of blade strain with sensors directly installed on the blade has one critical issue, how to send the sensor signal to the ground. Strain-gauges have been dominantly used to directly measure stress of a blade and either a slip ring or a telemetry system has to be used to send measured signal to the ground. However, both systems have many inherent problems and sometimes very severe limitations to be practically used. In this paper, new on-line strain monitoring method using. FBG(Fiber Bragg Grating) sensors and a beam coupler is introduced. Measurement of rotor stress using FBG sensors is nothing new, but unlike other system which installs all necessary instruments on the rotor and use telemetry system to send data to the ground, this system makes use of light's unique characteristic - light travels through space. In this new approach, single optical fiber with many FBG sensors is installed on the blade and all other necessary instruments can be installed at ground thereby giving tremendous advantages over slip ring or telemetry system. A reference sensor is also introduced to compensate the beam coupler's transmission loss change due to rotation. The suggested system's good performance is demonstrated with experiments.

This paper is concerned with the fuzzy control scheme and PID controller for the vibration suppression control of a cantilever beam equipped with a laser sensor and an electromagnetic actuator. The PID controller is being widely used in industrial applications. However, it is difficult to determine the appropriate PID gains in nonlinear systems and systems with time variant characteristic and so on. In this paper, we design the fuzzy based PID controller of which output gains are adjusted automatically and the designed controller is applied to active vibration control of a cantilever beam using electromagnetic actuator with strong nonlinearity. The tuning PID parameters of proposed controller are determined by using Fuzzy algorithm. Effectiveness and performance of the designed controller are verified by both simulation and experiment results. Experimental results demonstrate that better control performance can be achieved in comparison with the PID cotroller.

This article is concerned with the investigation of geometrically non-linear vibration response of refined thick porous nanobeams. To this end, non-local theory of elasticity has been adopted to provide the nanobeam formulation. Voids or pores can affect the material characteristics of the nanobeam. So, their effects have been considered in this research and also there are various void distributions. The closed form solution of the non-linear problem has been used that is adopted from previous articles. Then, it is focused on the impacts of non-local field, void distribution, void amount and geometrical properties on non-linear vibrational characteristic of a nano-size beam.

In this study, the exact rigidity and the free vibration of trapezoidal corrugated plate are analyzed by being based on the Kirchhoff's plate theory and the Ritz method. The previous rigidity of corrugated plate analyzed by considering just a geometric characteristic, a basic assumption and an equivalent idea can cause large errors in practical behaviors. Accordingly, the exact rigidity supplemented by correction factors of the theoretical rigidity is needed. Therefore an analysis on the exact rigidity and the free vibration using the rigidity for the plate is performed in this paper.

In this study, vibration characteristics of reinforced concrete slab in large span educational facilities were evaluated. A 21.75m X 14.4m full scale reinforced concrete slab specimen was constructed with pre-flex hybrid beams. Vibrations were generated by three different methods such as free falling method of a 6kg sand bag, a 70kg person walking method and impact method by impulse hammer. Vibrations were generated more than 3 times at single location. Vibration characteristic data were collected by SA390 signal analyzer machine at 5 different locations.

Free vibration and buckling analysis of multi-delaminated composite beam-columns subjected to axial compressive load is performed in the present study In order to investigate the effects of multi-delaminations on the natural frequency and the elastic buckling load of multi-delaminated beam-columns, the general kinematic continuity conditions are derived from the assumption of constant slope and curvature at the multi-dclamination tip. The characteristic equation of multi-delaminated beam-column is obtained by dividing the global multi-delauunated beam-columns into segments and by imposing recurrence relation from the continuity conditions on each sub-beam-column. The natural frequency and the elastic buck)ing load of multi-delaminated beam-columns according to the incremental load of axial compression, which is limited to the maximum elastic buckling load of sound laminated beam-column, are obtained. It is found that the sizes, locations and numbers of multi-delaminations have significant effect on natural frequency and elastic buckling load, especially the latter ones.

Damping may change the response characteristics of nonlinear oscillations due to the parametric excitation of a thin cantilever beam. When the natural frequencies of the first bending and torsional modes are of the same order of magnitude, we can observe the one-to-one combination resonance in the perturbation analysis depending on the characteristic parameters. The nonlinear behavior about the combination resonance reveals a chaotic motion depending on the natural frequencies and damping ratio. We can analyze the chaotic dynamics by using the eigenvalue analysis of the perturbed components. In this paper, we derived the equations for autonomous system and solved them to obtain the characteristic equation. The stability analysis was carried out by examining the eigenvalues. Numerical integration gave the physical behavior of each mode for given parameters.
