An unknown-aged intact male Yorkshire terrier dog with a mass on the right caudoabdominal region was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at Chungnam National University. Mass size was 4.5 cm in width, 6 cm in length and 3.5 cm in height. This case was suspected to seminoma by physical examination, laboratory examination, radiography, ultrasonography, CT and fine needle aspiration. This dog followed by treatment with surgical excision. After surgery, this case was diagnosed as seminoma by histopathological examination.

A 5-year-old, castrated male Yorkshire Terrier with strabismus and exophthalmos of the right eye was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Chungnam National University. Radiography, ultrasonography(US), computed tomography(CT) and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI), demonstrated a well-circumscribed, locally calcified mass of the retrobulbar region with contiguous bone structures invaded. Surgical removal of the adnexa, globe, optic nerve and the incorporated orbital neoplasm was performed. Primary orbital meningioma was confirmed by histopathologic examination.

Eleven years old cocker spaniel referred to Veterianry Medical Teaching Hospital, Seoul National University was diagnosed as pheochromocytoma. The patient was transferred to the hospital after hit by car and the main clinical signs were tachypnea, tachycardia, edema of hindlimb and lethargy. On ultrasonographic examination, hyperechoic foci was detected and it was invaded into the caudal vena cava. Venography showed the filling defect and local dilation of the caudal vena. The diagnosis of pheochromocytoma is challenging due to the nonspecific clinical signs and severe concurrent disease in dogs. This report describes one dog with invasive pheochromocytoma in which radiography, ultrasonography and venacavography were key diagnositc tools. Ultrasonography was a usuful method for assessment of size, shape and margination of the tumor and invasiveness to the major vessels.

A Persian chinchila (2 years old, intact female) and a Korean domestic shorthaired cat (3 months, intact male) were referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University with tachypnea. The two cats were diagnosed as feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) by blood and blood chemical examination, radiographic examination, RT-PCR and electrophoresis analysis of pleural effusion. Thromboxane synthetase inhibitor (Ozagrel HCl, 5 mg/kg, twice a day) was administered to the Persian chinchila and Korean domestic shorthair for 13 days and 16 days, respectively. Pleural effusion disappeared after treatment with Ozagrel HCl. Further study is needed to establish a new application protocol of Ozagrel HCl for FIP cases.

Squamous cell carcinoma was diagnosed in a 4.5-year-old male African hedgehog (Atelerix albiventris). The patient was referred to Seoul National University, Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital after 5 days history of left eye exophthalmos and corneal trauma. He had enlarged upper and lower jaw at the left part of the face and endophthalmitis of the left eye. On radiographic examinations, loss of bone density at the left zygomatic arch and sun-burst type periosteal reaction of left mandible with decreased bone density was noted. Histologically, the neoplastic mass consisted of markedly invasive, cords of nests of squamous epithelial cells. Intercellular bridges and keratin pearl formation were also noted.

A 6-year-old, spayed female Miniature Pinscher dog with chronic vomiting lasted for 7 weeks was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. Physical examination, complete blood counts, serum chemistry, gastroscopy, upper gastrointestinal series, endoscopic biopsy and histopathological examination were performed for the diagnosis. The complete blood counts and serum biochemistry revealed no remarkable effect to the patient's general condition. Gastroscopy revealed erosion, erythema in mucosal surface of gastric lesions and endoscopic biopsy performed. No significant findings in upper gastrointestinal series were observed, and histopathologic examination revealed infiltration of lymphocyte in the gastric mucosa. Based on these findings, the dog was diagnosed with lymphocytic gastritis. The dog were treated by metronidazole and ranitidine with hypoallergenic diet, and then the patient showed no vomiting or other complications.

Pyometra, a common disorder in intact bitches, can lead to canine sepsis. Identification of biomarkers for sources of infection in the uterus using two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE)-mass spectrometry (MS) analysis may enable the discovery of novel diagnostic markers of sepsis. Toward this end, surgically resected uterus samples from four bitches (three pyometra and one healthy) were randomly selected for 2-DE-MS, which identified 32 differentially expressed proteins, including seven inflammatory proteins, five non-inflammatory proteins, and 20 functionally unknown proteins. Despite the limited information on canine uterus proteomics, we suggest the potential use of differentially expressed uterus proteins as candidate biomarkers to discover targets to attenuate inflammation in pyometra. Further identification of the functionally unknown proteins is warranted.

Feline chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a rare disease. Its diagnosis is not simple because of the absence of clinical signs and the presence of mature lymphocytosis. An 11-year-old female spayed Russian Blue cat was referred to the veterinary medical teaching hospital for lethargy, diarrhea, weight loss, and inappetence. Marked lymphocytic leukocytosis and a significantly increased number of small-to-intermediate-sized lymphocytes in the peripheral blood were found on hematological examination. The results of the feline leukemia virus and immunodeficiency virus test were negative. Further, mild splenomegaly was detected. Bone marrow aspirate analysis revealed mature lymphocytosis and a clonally rearranged T cell receptor gene with the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for antigen receptor rearrangement assay. Flow cytometric immunophenotyping showed a homogeneous population of CD5+/CD21-T-cells in the peripheral blood and bone marrow. According to the results of the aforementioned examinations, CLL was diagnosed. Treatment was not initiated at the time of diagnosis because the clinical signs were mild and did not affect the quality of life. This report describes the clinical findings and use of advanced diagnostic tools such as molecular clonality analysis and immunophenotyping for the diagnosis of feline CLL.

A 7-year-old, castrated male Yorkshire terrier dog with chronic vomiting, and melena lasted for 3 weeks was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. The complete blood counts and serum biochemistry revealed no remarkable findings. Gastrointestinal series revealed irregular margin in small intestinal lumen. After upper gastrointestinal series, erythema of the small intestinal lesions was found by exploratory laparotomy and full-thickness biopsy was performed. Histopathologic examination revealed infiltration of predominantly eosinophils and other inflammatory cells in small intestine. Based on these findings, the dog was diagnosed as eosinophilic enteritis. After 4 weeks medical treatment and hypoallergenic diet, the patient showed no vomiting, melena and other complications.

A 16-year-old female Poodle with multiple mammary masses was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Seoul National University. Radiographic finding indicated a round mass of soft tissue density at the ventral portion of the 4th-7th sternum, which was 7 cm in diameter and presented multiple mineralization within the mass. Cytologically, aspirate of the mammary mass was moderately cellular and revealed well-differentiated osteoblasts with moderately basophilic cytoplasm, various sized and eccentrically placed nuclei and distinct nucleoli. Osteoblasts interspersed with osteoid-suspected pink-staining intercellular matrix. Some cells displayed malignant features such as macronuclei, macronucleoli, binucleation, abnormal mitotic figures, anisocytosis and anisokaryosis. On which the mass was diagnosed as osteosarcoma. Histopathologic examinations of the mass were compatible with a diagnosis of osteosarcoma. The patient was treated with surgery alone. The patient died 45 days later from surgery.
