Experiments have been conducted to investigate mean thermal structure in unstable turbulent thermal convection between two horizontal flat plates. The upper plate was kept at a constant cold temperature and the bottom plate at a constant hot temperature. Both air and water were used as its working fluids. Chamber aspect ratios were 3.80 and 6.17, the mean temperature differences between two plates were 2.6-9.3.deg. C, whose Rayleigh numbers in a range 6.13*10$^{5}$ -1, 07*10$^{8}$ . The heat transfer correlations obtained through the experiments are Nu=0.139R $a^{0.285}$ for air and Nu=0.087 R $a^{0.319}$ for water. Profiles of the mean temperature gradient clearly show the -2 and 1 4/3 power law regions.

To estimate the local site effects at two town fortress areas where stone parapets were collapsed during historical earthquakes, site characteristics were evaluated using borehole drillings and seismic tests and equivalent-linear site response analyses were conducted based on the shear wave velocity (Vs) profiles determined from site investigations. The study sites are categorized as site classes C and B according to the mean Vs to 30 m ranging from 500 to 850 m/s, and their site periods are distributed in short period range of 0.06 to 0.16 sec. For site class C in the study areas, the short-period (0.1-0.5 sec) and mid-period (0.4-2.0 sec) site coefficients, $F_{\alpha}$ and $F_\nu$ specified in the Korean seismic design guide, underestimate the ground motion in short-period band and overestimate the ground motion in mid-period band, respectively, due to the characteristics showing high amplification in short period range, which can result in the collapse of stone parapets having the short natural period.

The spray cross-section characteristics of two-phase spray that using external-mixing nozzle injected into a subsonic cross flow were experimentally studied with various ALR ratio that is $0{\sim}59.4%$. Suction type wind tunnel was used and experiments were conducted to ambient environment. Several plain orifice nozzles with L/d of 30 and orifice diameter of 0.5 mm and orifice length 1.5 mm were tested. Free stream velocity profiles at the injection location were measured using hot wire. Spray images were captured to study collision point and column trajectory. Phase Doppler particle analyzer(PDPA) was utilized to quantitatively measuring droplet SMD, volume flux. Measuring probe of PDPA positions was moved 3-way transverse machine. SMD distributions were layered structure and peaked at the top of the spray plume and low value at bottom of the spray. Volume flux of spray was distributed to the two side region and volume flux quantity decreased when ALR ratio increased. It was found that the perpendicularly injected two-phase spray jet of external mixing into a cross flow showing that mistlike spray moved away from the test section bottom region.

A numerical model which simulates the simultaneous heat and mass transfer within a vertical tube GAX absorber was developed. The ammonia vapor and the solution liquid are in counter-current flow, and the hydronic fluid flows counter to the solution liquid. The film thickness and the velocity distribution of the liquid film were obtained by matching the shear stress at the liquid-vapor interface. Two-dimensional diffusion and energy equations were solved in the liquid film to give the temperature and concentration, and a modified Colburn-Drew analysis was used for the vapor phase to determine the heat and mass fluxes at the liquid-vapor interface. The model was applied to a GAX absorber to investigate the absorption rates, temperature and concentration profiles, and mass flow rates of liquid and vapor phases. It was shown that the mass flux of water was negligible compared with that of ammonia except the region near the liquid inlet. Ammonia absorption rate increases rapidly near the liquid inlet and decrease slowly. Both the absorption rate of ammonia vapor and the desorption rate of water near the liquid inlet increase as the vapor mass flow rate increases, but the mass fluxes of the ammonia and the water near the liquid outlet decrease as the mass flow rate of the vapor increases.

The concentration fields in the proximities of a local gas emission source are experimentally analyzed in several combinations of wind incidences and source emissions. These conditions are determined by the plume buoyancy, emission velocity and incident flow wind speed. Concentration measurements are performed by an aspirating probe in a boundary layer wind tunnel. The analysis included the mean concentration values and the intensity of concentration fluctuations in a neutral atmospheric boundary layer flow. Different configurations are tested: an isolated stack in a homogeneous terrain and a stack with a bluff body in close proximity, located windward and leeward from the emission source. The experimental mean concentration values are contrasted with Gaussian profiles and the dilution factor is analyzed with respect to the empirical curves of the minimum dilution. Finally, a study on the plume intermittency is performed in a cross-sectional plane near the emission source. It is possible to highlight the following observations: a) plume vertical asymmetry in the case of an isolated emission source, b) significant differences in the dispersion process related to the relative location of the emission source and bluff body effects, and c) different probabilistic behavior of the concentration fluctuation data in a cross-sectional measurement plane inside the plume.

This paper proposes a new feature extraction method for automatically estimating the number of target and detecting the chaff using high range resolution profile(HRRP). Feature of one-dimensional range profile is expected to be limited or missing due to lack of information according to the time. The proposed method considers the dynamic movements of targets depending on the radial velocity. The observed HRRP sequence is used to construct a time-range distribution matrix, then assuming diverse radial velocities reflect the number of target and seduction chaff launch, the proposed method utilizes the characteristic of the gradient distribution on the time-range distribution matrix image, which is validated by electromagnetic computation data and dynamic simulation.

Understanding how the filamentary structure affects the formation of the prestellar cores and stars is a key issue to challenge. We use the Heterodyne Array Receiver Program (HARP) of the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) to obtain molecular line mapping data for two prestellar cores in different environment, L1544 in filamentary cloud and L694-2 in a small cloud isolated. Observing lines are $^{13}CO$ and $C^{18}O$ (3-2) line to find possible flow motions along the filament, $^{12}CO$ (3-2) to search for any radial accretion (or infalling motions) toward the cores of gas material from their surrounding regions, and $HCO^+$ (4-3) lines to find at which density and which region in the core gases start to be in gravitational collapse. In the 1st moment maps of $^{13}CO$ and $C^{18}O$, velocity gradient patterns implying the flow of material were found at the cores and its surrounding filamentary clouds. The infall asymmetry patterns of HCO+ and $^{13}CO$ line profiles were detected to be good enough to analyze the infalling motions toward the cores. We will report further analysis results on core formation in the filamentary cloud at this meeting.
Oscillations in a sunspot are easily detected through the Doppler velocity observation. Although the sunspot oscillations look erratic, the wavelet analysis show that they consist of successive wave packets which have strong power near three or five minutes. Previous studies found that 3-min oscillation at the chromosphere is a visual pattern of upward propagating acoustic waves along the magnetic field lines. Resent multi-height observations help this like vertical study, however, we also focus on horizontal facet to extend three dimensional understand of sunspot waves. So, we investigate a fragmented sunspot expected to have complex wave profiles according to the positions in the sunspot observed by the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph. We choose 4 points at different umbral cores as sampling positions to determine coherence of oscillations. The sets of cross-correlation with three and five minutes bandpass filters during a single wave packet reveal interesting results. Na I line show weak correlations with some lags, but Fe I and Ni I have strong correlations with no phase difference over the sunspots. It is more remarkable at Ni I line with 3-min bandpass that all sets of cross-correlation look like the autocorrelation. We can interpret this as sunspot oscillations occur spontaneously over a sunspot at photosphere but not at chromosphere. It implies a larger or deeper origin of 3-min sunspot oscillation.
The high-resolution near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy can reveal the evidence of the accretion burst (e.g., the broadened absorption features produced by the Keplerian disk motion) although the moment of the outburst was not caught. The embedded protostar IRAS 16316-1540 observed with the Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrograph (IGRINS, $R={\Delta}{\lambda}/{\lambda}{\sim}45000$) shows the broad absorption features in atomic and CO transitions, as seen in FU Orionis objects (FUors), indicative of an outburst event. We examine whether the spectra of IRAS 16316-1540 arise from the rotating inner hot gaseous disk. Using the IGRINS spectral library, we show that the line profiles of IRAS 16316-1540 are more consistent with an M1.5 V template spectrum convolved with a disk rotation profile than the protostellar photosphere absorption features with a high stellar rotation velocity. We also note that the absorption features deviated from the expected line profile of the accretion disk model can be explained by a turbulence motion generated in the disk atmosphere. From previous observations that show the complex environment and the misaligned outflow axes in IRAS 16316-1540, we suggest that an impact of infalling clumpy envelope material against the disk induces the disk precession, causing the accretion burst from the inner disk to the protostar.
The wind generated circulation model describes the phenomenon based on the following physical assumptions: a) As the horizontal dimension of the flow domain is several orders of magnitude larger than vertical dimension, nearly horizontal flow is realistic. b) The time taken for circulation to develop may effect on the flow domain of the earth's rotation, the contribution of the Coriolis force. c) A flow domain of large dimension results in quite large Reynolds number and the Reynolds stresses are approximated by the turbulent mean velocity gradient. d) The circulation is forced by the shear stresses on the water surface exercised by the wind. Modification made to the depth average approximation of the convective terms and the bed shear stress terms by adopting a certain distribution of current over the depth and laboratory measurements for the bed shear expression. Modification circulation patterns, energy evolution and surface profile gave the significant differences comparing with the classical model results. The modified model results in higher free surface gradients balancing both the free surface shear and the bed shear and consequently to higher surface profiles along the coast.
