  • Photopia, LightTools, and ASAP are typical software for optical design of a luminaire. Through using various lighting simulation software some different results can be found under the same conditions. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to compare simulated photometric data and values illuminance of different types of LED prism luminaires under the same conditions. Then, LED prism luminaires were divided into the linear type and the planar type. Also three kinds of prism angles were divided into $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, and $60^{\circ}$. In addition, the reasons for such differences were analyzed.

  • We have developed a high-contrast ambient-light rejection projection screen with surface micro-structures for front and rear projection displays with an oblique-angle projector. We have fabricated prototype screens that show a better than $10{\times}$ improvement in contrast compared to a matte-white screen under various ambient lighting conditions and screen luminance.

  • This paper describes the development of various lighting equipment adapting Ultra Constant Discharge Lamp that has newly been on commercial supply in the market. Meeting the required conditions of lighting equipment, various types of UCD Lamp equipment with excellent performances could be successfully developed. In order to provide a guideline for the economical lighting product selection, the analyzed data comparison between Hi-pressure Sodium Lamp which has been the most popular lamp for street lighting and UCD Lamp is provided. The conclusions of the study are made as follows; (1) The performance measurement result of UCD Lamp shows excellent Luminous Efficacy as 108Lm/W, daylight-like Color Rendering Index as 90Ra, and the best operating temperature range as $-50^{\circ}C{\sim}+85^{\circ}C$. Comparing to the Hi-pressure Sodium Lamp, UCD could be evaluated as much superior products. (2) In an assembled status with the lighting fixture (Type STB형-60W), UCD Lamp was tested OK for one hour duration at the temperature range form $-50^{\circ}C$ to $+85^{\circ}C$ and the humidity of 98%. The operation at the extremely low temperature can be an excellent feature to enable the export to the cold temperature regions such as Northern Europe and Russia and the specific applications for defense systems and special industry. (3) As UCD Lamp is a genuine Korea made product following Energy-saving and Eco-friendly policy, it should be appreciated as one of the best $CO^2$ reduction Green product.

  • In our former study, we proposed that the AC-Model might be applied to various conditions. And we also introduced the method for daylighting that it was possible to reduce discomfort glare and to improve visual impressions as the supplementary type and blind-control type on the compound lighting. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between physical elements and psychological evaluation of lighting space. The study was made using an full-size space, which were equipped with various luminaries. We investigated the relationship between subjective evaluation and characteristics of light distribution and showed the high correlation between the evaluation rating and luminance distribution over whole room.

Fruit Qualities of De-astringent Persimmon 'Fuyu' Affected by Various Light Sources under Low and High Temperatures before Storage of Harvested Fruit

  • Harvested de-astringent persimmon 'Fuyu' were treated with various lighting sources under low (3℃) and high (22℃) temperatures. The weight loss rate of fruits was lower in those with Red LED than Fluorescence and Blue LED under both temperature conditions. Hardness and soluble solid content of fruits were higher in those with 3℃ / Blue LED or mixed LED (Blue+Red LEDs). Beta-carotene and lycopene content of fruit peel were higher in those with 3℃ than 22℃ and with Red LED or light sources with mixed red wavelength under both temperatures. When the fruits treated with light and temperature were stored for 4 days under 3℃ / dark condition, the hardness of the fruits did not significant difference among the treatments. Taken together all the results, it would be best to treat it light sources mixed red wavelength under 3℃.

Intelligent Lighting Control using Wireless Sensor Networks for Media Production

  • We present the design and implementation of a unique sensing and actuation application -- the Illuminator: a sensor network-based intelligent light control system for entertainment and media production. Unlike most sensor network applications, which focus on sensing alone, a distinctive aspect of the Illuminator is that it closes the loop from light sensing to lighting control. We describe the Illuminator's design requirements, system architecture, algorithms, implementation and experimental results. The system uses the Illumimote, a multi-modal and high fidelity light sensor module well-suited for wireless sensor networks, to satisfy the high-performance light sensing requirements of entertainment and media production applications. The Illuminator system is a toolset to characterize the illumination profile of a deployed set of fixed position lights, generate desired lighting effects for moving targets (actors, scenic elements, etc.) based on user constraints expressed in a formal language, and to assist in the set up of lights to achieve the same illumination profile in multiple venues. After characterizing deployed lights, the Illuminator computes optimal light settings at run-time to achieve a user-specified actuation profile, using an optimization framework based on a genetic algorithm. Uniquely, it can use deployed sensors to incorporate changing ambient lighting conditions and moving targets into actuation. Experimental results demonstrate that the Illuminator handles various high-level user requirements and generates an optimal light actuation profile. These results suggest that the Illuminator system supports entertainment and media production applications.

Comparative Stability of vit E isomers Extracted from Unsaponifiable Fractions of Rice Bran Oil under Various Temperature and Oxygen Conditions

  • Due to the fact that tocopherols and tocotrienols have antioxidant and anticancer properties, the commercial utilization of unsaponifiable fractions in rice bran is increasing. These nutraceutical compounds, however, are fairly unstable and readily break down when exposed to oxygen or lighting conditions. To compare the relative sensitivity of vit E isomers to heat and oxygen, concentrated unsaponifiable fractions extracted from crude rice bran oil were exposed to various temperature, oxygen (nitrogen-balanced), and bathing solvent conditions and resultant concentration changes in ${\alpha}$- and ${\gamma}$-tocopherols (T) and tocotrienols (T3) were evaluated. Each isomer exhibited different heat stability. Among them, ${\alpha}$-T3 degraded more rapidly compared to other vit E isomers while ${\alpha}$-T was the most stable isomer. Oxygen level also showed significant impact on each isomer's stability where severe reductions of ${\gamma}$-T (by 20%) and ${\gamma}$-T3 (by 29%) were observed under 2% oxygen conditions, while under 0% oxygen conditions no degradation could be observed even after exposure to $95^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours. When various blending solvents were mixed with concentrated unsaponifiable fractions, organic solvents such as isooctane and hexane were more effective in maintaining the stability of ${\gamma}$- T3 compared to edible oils, among which com oil was more efficient than soybean and rice bran oils.

EEFL BLU 구동용 인버터 최적화 설계에 대한 연구 (A Study of the Inverter Optimization Design for EEFL BLU)

  • EEFL(External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp) for LCD displays are analyzed on electrical and optical characteristics by various electrode length. The electrodes of EEFL are coated at the outside of the glass tube. Brightness and efficiency of the EEFL are affected on lamp impedance characteristic. So, the experimental models are proposed for analysis and measurements of the brightness and efficiency of the lamps according to the electrode length. The sample of LCD backlight unit is used for these experiments, EEFL arrayed BLU of 32' for commercial TV display. The parameters of the experiments were quantised for simple result reading as the length of electrodes as 15, 23 and 30 mm. The inverter was designed and manufactured in the laboratory as the Full-Bridge switching inverter. The feature of the output were measured on voltages about 1000 - 1400V at the currents of 11 - 29 mA and the brightness $15,000\;cd/m^2-40,000\;cd/m^2$. The experiments have shown that the brightness are increased by increasing of the electrode lengths which have the lamp currents increased. But at an certain conditions, the brightness and efficiency were decreased because of unmatched between the inverter output and lamp impedance. The optimum applications of the EEFL BLU of 32' in this experiments have been shown to choose the parameters for driving frequencies of 100 kHz - 150 kHz, the brightness of $18,000-19,000\;cd/m^2$ and efficiencies of 40 - 45 lm/w.

전력선 통신용 재변조방식의 BPSK복조기 실현에 관한연구 (A Study on the Implementation of BPSK Demodulator with Remodulation Method for Power Line Carrier Communication)

  • 본 논문에서는 신호감쇄 및 연집잡음(burst noise)이 존재하는 전력선 반송 채널에서 디지틀 데이터를 복조하기 위한 BPSK(Binary Phase Shift Keying) 복조기의 설계에 대하여 논한다. 이러한 BPSK 복조기의 실현에 있어서 반송파 동기호로는 소형화 및 안정화가 요구되며, 입력주파수의 변동에 대해서 낮은 위상 오차가 필요하게 된다. 이와 같은 요구조건을 만족하기 위해서 본 논문에서는 반송주파수가 10.4[kHz]이고, 전송속도가 110[bps]인 재변조방식의 BPSK 복조기를 설계 제작하였다. 설계 제작한 반송파 동기회로는 기존의 아날로그 소자로 구성되었던 승산기(multiplier) 및 지연회로를 PLL(Phase Locked Loop) IC로 대치하여 소형화 및 안정성을 확보하였으며, PLL회로 설계시에 주위온도 등을 고려하여 주파수 인입범위를 $\pm$4[kHz], 정상위상오차를 $\pm$60로 설정하였다. 기능시험 결과로부터, BPSK 복조기의 동작기능은 정상상태에서 설계조건에 만족함을 알 수 있었다.
