The Consumers Motive of Variety Seeking and Variety Seeking Behavior in Clothing Products -In relation to Fashion Interests and Clothing Purchase Behavior among Consumer Groups- (의류제품에 대한 소비자의 다양성추구 동기와 행동;소비자 유형별 유행관심, 의복구매행동과 관련하여)

  • The purpose of this study was 1) to find out the dimensions of consumers motive of variety seeking and variety seeking behavior toward clothing products, 2) to examine the relationship between above variables, and 3) to classify consumer group according to their motive and behavior of variety seeking, and to compare the groups characteristics in terms of the fashion interests and clothing purchase behavior. The data were obtained from 913 female university students, career women, and housewives using questionnaire. Consumers appeared to have the motive of variety seeking in clothing products, and the motive was composed of four factors. Consumers would show variety seeking behavior in clothing products. And the behavior was composed of three factors. Positive relationship existed between the motive and the behavior of variety seeking, while, the 4 factors of variety motive influenced differently on the different factors of variety seeking behavior. Subjects were classified into four groups according to their motive of variety seeking and variety seeking behavior. A significant differences were found among the 4 groups in fashion interests as well as quantity of purchase, frequency of purchase to clothing products.

The Effect of Construal Level on Variety Seeking across Subcategories

  • The present study investigates how consumers' construal level affects their variety seeking behavior when choosing multiple items simultaneously. Especially the authors focus on the perceptual level at which variety seeking takes place and propose that variety seeking can take place not only at brand level but also at category or subcategory level. Categorical variety seeking refers to diversification of one's choices over multiple brands not within the same category but across multiple categories. Building on construal level theory, the authors expected that people engaging in higher-level construals tend to subcategorize the choice set and distribute their choices across more subcategories and designed four experiments to test the related hypotheses. The experimental results showed that consumers' construal level can affect the level at which variety seeking takes place and those with higher construal level tend to choose options seemingly more dissimilar to each other.

  • The purposes of this study were 1) to verify the theoretical model of the influential factors of brand variety seeking tendency in clothing products by identifying the relationships among optimum stimulation level, fashion leadership, fashion innovativeness, brand variety seeking attitudes and brand variety seeking behavior and 2) to identify the relationships among research variables according to clothing items(suits, jeans, casual jackets, T-shirts, panties, stocking) and the level of clothing involvement. The data was collected from 457 female college students living in Seoul and suburban areas, and was analyzed by frequency, one-way ANOVA, SNK test, multiple regression and path analyses. The results of this study were as follows: 1) There were significant effects of optimum stimulation level and fashion leadership on fashion innovativeness, significant effects of optimum stimulation level, fashion leadership and fashion innovativeness on brand variety seeking attitudes, and significant effects of brand variety seeking attitudes on brand variety seeking behavior 2) There were significant relationships among the research variables in case of suits and jeans. The relationships between variables were differed according to clothing items and the level of clothing involvement.

The Relationships between Benefit Seeking and Brand Loyalty of Fashion Luxury Goods (패션제품의 명품 추구혜택과 상표충성도의 관계 연구)

  • This research is ultimately to understand the general behavior of luxury goods consumers and to diversify the consumer groups according to the relationships between their benefit seeking and brand loyalty. The subjects used for the research were 223 female consumers who purchased fashion luxury goods. The data were analyzed by factor analysis and multiple regression. The results showed that there were four factors in benefit seeking of luxury goods; self-improvement, aesthetics, uniqueness and quality. Each of the factors was analyzed in relation to brand loyalty and brand variety seeking motivations. Brand loyalty's factors were continuous brand loyalty, trademark brand loyalty and devoting brand loyalty. Brand variety seeking motivation factors were change/novelty seeking motivation, quality/recommendation, discounted price and unique types of product line. The consumers who were seeking self- improvement were showing trademark brand loyalty rather than continuous or devoting brand loyalty. Meanwhile, the quality benefit seeking customers showed continuous or devoting brand loyalty. The most important motivations in brand variety seeking was change/ novelty seeking. The implications and marketing strategies of the research were discussed.

  • In this study, investigation into the impact of sensation seeking tendency and clothing attitudes upon brand variety seeking will be made through the presentation of sensation seeking tendency as consumer's motivation of clothing behavior and clothing attitude as parameter. To give goals of this study. First, to help the understanding of consumers by elucidating consumer's psychological characteristics against sensation seeking tendency, clothing attitude and diverse brands seeking. Second, to offer standard for specifying market by presenting theoretical as well as empirical data. Third. to create successful marketing strategy according to consumer groups and moreover to increase sales efficiency. Research results are as follows : As a result of investigating on which factor among sensation seeking tendency affects on seeking various brands, change seeking tendency and aesthetic seeking impact upon seeking various kinds of brands. Change seeking is turned out to be the most influential factor. Fashion leadership, fashion innovativeness, attention concentration, social approval and clothing interest had an impact on diverse kinds of brand seeking: there was a positive relations with fashion leadership. attention concentration. clothing interest and fashion innovativeness, whereas a negative link with social approval. Three factors of sensation seeking tendency, two factors, that is change seeking and aesthetic seeking. have direct and indirect paths that lead to diverse brand seeking, via clothing attitude. that is to say, clothing interest. fashion leadership. social approval and attention concentration. On the other hand, thrill and risk seeking only had indirect path. Aesthetic seeking showed higher significance to indirect effect on diverse brand seeking which takes clothing attitude as a parameter, than that of direct effect. Brand variety seeking was under considerable effect of fashion leadership, clothing interest and attention concentration, in order.

  • The purpose of this study was to categorize brand-switching behaviors into subdivided groups by variety seeking and perceived differences between brands and to compare and to analyze brand-switching motive perceived differences between brands clothing-involvement and buying price among the subdivided groups. The subjects were 343 female and male to have jean pants-buying experience in their age of 20-29 living in Seoul and Kyunggi province. For the analysis of the data mean frequency t-test $\chi^2$-Test Factor analysis MANOVA Duncan-test were conducted and the cronbach's $\alpha$ has been calculated to measure the reliability The results are as follows: 1. brand-switching behaviors are categorized into 4 groups by strength of variety-seeking and perceived differences between brands that are small or large which are habitual brand switchers internal derived brand-switchers external derived brand-switchers and combined derived brand-switchers. 2. Among the 4 sub-groups there were significant difference in brand-switching motive according to factors such as change-seeking needs and price & promotion. And there were significant differences in perceived differences between brands according to factors such as apparel design clothing -symbolism fitness except apparel shop. 3. According to strength of variety-seeking levels of clothing-involvement and buying price have increased Combined derived brand-switchers have totally the strongest variety-seeking and the highest clothin-involvement and they purchase the highest priced jean-pants of the other types of consumers.

The Type of Consumers Brand Switching on Fashion Goods and Response to Marketing Communication (패션상품 소비자의 상표전환 유형과 마케팅 커뮤니케이션 반응)

  • The purpose of this study was to establish the marketing strategy, that strengthens the brand royalty of their own in apparel industry and that can induce consumers brand switching against competitive brand. This study was classified into theoretical and experimental study. Experimental study was done, using the survey, to prove the models for consumers responses to brand switching by the theoretical study. It analyzed at last five hundred ninety-two women in the age of twenty to thirty years old who live in Seoul. Followings are the summary of the results revealed through the experimental study. First, brand switching behavior of consumers for formal dress was attributed to two extremes the inner motivation of variety seeking tendency and communication contact, complex variety seeking group, true variety seeking group, derived variety seeking group, and variety avoiding group. Second, the cognition response to marketing communication the types of brand switching shows difference in all communication variables except the service promotion of sales promotion communication. As to attitude response, it was found meaning difference in all communication variables except the sales promotion through price adjustment.

  • The purposes of this study were to examine the effect of store satisfaction about fashion store and alternative store attraction on switching barrier perception and the moderating effect of variety seeking orientation. The questionnaire was administered to 450 women shopped in a department store in Gwan-ju during September, 12-26,2002. Data collected from 384 women were analyzed by using frequency, factor analysis, regression analysis, ANOVA and t-test by SPSS for WIN program. The result were as follows. First, the store satisfaction significantly influenced switching barrier perception. Second, the alternative store attraction significantly influenced switching barrier perception. Third, interaction effect between store satisfaction and variety seeking orientation was found out to be meaningful at switching barrier perception. Fourth, interaction effect between alternative store attraction and variety seeking orientation was found out to be meaningful at switching barrier perception.

The survey was conducted through two preliminary questionnaires. It was used as a criterion to prove the validity of the main survey and analyse the reliability. It analyzed at last five hundred ninety-two women in the age of twenty to thirty years odd who live in Seoul and the suburban of Seoul. Followings are the summary of the results revealed through the experimental study. First, brand switching behavior of consumers far formal dress was attributed to two extremes the inner motivation of variety seeking tendency and communication contact, complex variety seeking group, true variety seeking group, derived variety seeking group, and variety avoiding group. Second, the structure of low dimension related fashion according to factor analysis, which affects brand switching, was composed to involvement in 5-dimension, information search in 3-dimension. Based on the results of this study the types of brand switching in fashion goods can be classified by the variety seeking tendency. as inner motivation, and level of contact communication as a outside stimuli. In addition this study showed a correlation among the factors for brand switching related to variables of fashion.

  • This study classified online shopping mall using value as utility and hedonic value based on previous studies. And we examine the effect of online shopping mall value on user attitude and customer loyalty. Meanwhile, variety seeking is a personal tendency that wants to new change over time. The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference of online shopping mall usage value(utility, hedonic), user attitude according to variety seeking. The following are main results of this study. First, utility value and hedonic value have a significant effects on user attitude. Second, user attitude of online shopping mall have a positive effect on customer loyalty. Third, The relationship that online shopping mall using value affect user attitude is differ depending on variety seeking. Based on these findings, in this study examined the significant influence of online shopping mall using value, user attitude, customer loyalty. this study suggested to marketing practitioners the need for different approach by a variety seeking.
