  • Objectives: The reliability and educational quality of videos on YouTube for patients seeking information regarding instrument separation in root canal treatment were evaluated. Materials and Methods: YouTube was searched for videos on instrument separation in root canal treatment. Video content was scored based on reliability in terms of 3 categories (etiology, procedure, and prognosis) and based on video flow, quality, and educational usefulness using the Global Quality Score (GQS). Descriptive statistics were obtained and the data were analyzed using analysis of variance and the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: The highest mean completeness scores were obtained for videos published by dentists or specialists (1.48 ± 1.06). There was no statistically significant difference among sources of upload in terms of content completeness. The highest mean GQS was found for videos published by dentists or specialists (1.82 ± 0.96), although there was no statistically significant correlation between GQS and the source of upload. Conclusions: Videos on YouTube have incomplete and low-quality content for patients who are concerned about instrument separation during endodontic treatment, or who experience this complication during endodontic treatment.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of intake of aronia, montmorency, and Prunus mume on 10 km endurance exercise by investigating changes in blood lactate, ammonia, creatine kinase (CK), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and eventually to recommend them as ergogenic aids, which are effective for recovering from exercise fatigue and muscle damage. The subjects were divided into a P. mume intake group, an aronia intake group, a montmorency intake group, and a control group. Blood samples were taken from the brachial vein at rest, and at 0, 30 min, and 24 hr after running to measure recovery status. All data were analyzed by a two-way repeated-measures analysis of variance using SPSS. The results are summarized as follows: The changes in blood ammonia and LDH concentration following 10 km of running were not significantly different among the groups. However, lactate and CK recovery ratio increased significantly in the aronia and montmorency groups compared to those in the P. mume and control groups. In particular, CK concentration was significantly different in the montmorency group compared to that in the other groups. These results suggest that the effects of aronia and montmorency are associated with improved recovery from muscle fatigue and damage induced by highly intensive exercise, endurance exercise, or overtraining. In particular, montmorency is recommended as an ergogenic aid to inhibit muscle pain resulting from high-intensity endurance exercise.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of new exercises (combined cervical and thoracic extension exercises) with those of conventional cervical extensor strengthening exercises (sitting cervical extension exercises) and thoracic extensor strengthening exercises (prone thoracic extension exercises). Method: Fifteen healthy subjects performed sitting cervical extension exercises, prone thoracic extension exercises, and combined cervical and thoracic extension exercises. During each exercise, electromyography was used to measure muscle activity in the erector spinae with C4 and T4 levels. The measured data were analyzed using one-way repeated analysis of variance. Results: With different exercises, there were significant differences in activity in the erector spinae muscle (p < 0.05). The activity in the erector spinae muscle increased significantly during the combined cervical and thoracic extension exercises compared to the sitting cervical extension (p < 0.05) and prone thoracic extension exercises (p < 0.05). The sitting cervical extension exercises significantly increased activity in the cervical erector spinae muscle compared to the prone thoracic extension exercises (p < 0.05). Activity in the thoracic erector spinae muscles was significantly increased during the prone thoracic extension exercises compared to during the sitting cervical extension exercises (p < 0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that the newer exercises effectively increase activity in the cervical and thoracic extensor muscles.

  • An instrument which practitioners have acknowledged as an essential mechanism used in supporting greenhorn companies is the business incubation system. Several countries of the world have implemented the business incubation concept ever since it was conceived and developed in the United States in 1959. It is a model that has typically given itself much more readily within industrialized countries with identical environments to the United States. Nigeria also adapted it in 1993 where the resulting process and practice failed to live up to anticipations. To determine the significant role of government policy on the incubation dimensions and its success is the purpose of this research. Data collection process involved the surveying of stakeholders in Nigeria with some direct involvement in the national programme. The Partial Least Squares (PLS) was employed for the analysis. The findings showed that all exogenous variables collectively explained 52.4% of the variance in success. Meanwhile, when a moderation effect is present; the variable increased to 62.3%. Consequently, it is recommended that for a business incubation scheme to be successful and effective, government needs to implement efficient policies since results showed that these policies influenced all the relationships. The results' implications as well as limitations of the study are discussed.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between intraoperative level of caring and anxiety among patients who underwent spinal surgery under local anesthesia. Methods: The study participants included 162 patients who had spinal surgery under local anesthesia at a general hospital in B metropolitan city between July 20 and September 20, 2014. To measure the caring behaviors of patients under local anesthesia, we used the Caring Behavior Measurement, and state anxiety was measured by the State Trait Anxiety Inventory. The collected data were analyzed using a SAS program. The differences in anxiety levels based on participants' characteristics were analyzed with t-test and an analysis of variance. The correlation between levels of caring and anxiety was tested with Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: Education and caring levels showed significant relationship with the anxiety level of patients with spinal surgery under local anesthesia. Conclusion: To decrease the level of anxiety in patients undergoing spinal surgery under local anesthesia, it is necessary to educate and train operating nurses about the intra-operative caring behavior.

  • Data from purebred and crossbred cattle involving Holstein and the Local breed in Bangladesh were used to estimate the genetic effects on average daily milk yield and birth weight A total of 877 records on average daily milk yield for 4 types of breed groups and a total of 418 records on birth weight for 5 breed groups were analyzed. Two different methods were applied in this study; the least squares analysis of variance approach and the linear regression approach. Breed group effects were highly significant for both average daily milk yield and birth weight. The result showed that straightbred Holstein produced the highest milk yield and the 7/8 crosses ranked highest in birth weight For the two traits, the additive breed effect was highly significant, whereas the individual heterosis effect was not significant. Furthermore, this study showed a negative maternal heterosis for average daily milk yields and a positive maternal heterosis for birth weight Comparing the breed least squares means obtained from the linear regression approach revealed that straightbred Holstein produced the highest average milk yield and the 3/4 crosses were predicted to have the largest birth weight. It is indicated that the linear regression approach can adequately separate the genetic component of performance, estimate unknown crossbreeding parameters and predict unknown performance of crosses which are not include in the original data.

  • Though a large amount of research concerning listening strategies has been conducted, the strategic behaviors of younger students in this area have received less attention. This study is a follow up study of an earlier case study by the author (2006). The purpose of this study is to verify what listening strategies Korean elementary learners use in a general L2 listening situation. 213 elementary students participated in this study, and a listening strategy questionnaire was used. ANOVA, MANOVA, Correlation and Multiple Regression Analysis were used to interpret the data. The results of this study reveal that younger participants used all four types of listening strategies, cognitive, compensation, metacognitive and affective, fairly often; however, the results also show that they differ in how frequently they use each strategy according to their listening proficiency. Overall, highly proficient learners use more strategies compared to less proficient learners. High proficiency learners use compensation strategies most and cognitive strategies least. Low proficient learners use affective strategies most and compensation strategies least. Moreover, the results showed no significant grade- or gender-related strategic behaviors, and also showed that L2 listening proficiency can be a significant predictor of strategic behavior of young learners. 12% of the variance in L2 strategic behaviors was attributable to L2 listening proficiency.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to define factors influencing psychosocial adaptation of patients with a permanent colostomy. Independent variables including perceived stress, stoma care self-efficacy, self-care behavior, self-esteem and family support were used to predict psychosocial adaptation. Method: The data was analyzed using the SPSS pc program window version 12.0 for descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. Ninety patients with a permanent colostomy were recruited between September 2007 and May 2008. The reliability of the instruments was tested with Cronbach's alpha which ranged from .78 to .92. Result: The results were as follows: The mean psychosocial adaptation score was 3.05. There were significant correlations between all the predictive variables and psychosocial adaptation (r= .63~ -.43, p<.001). Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that self-esteem (40%), stoma care self-efficacy (7%), perceived stress (2%), and self-care behavior (2%) accounted for 51% of the variance in psychosocial adaptation. Conclusion: These findings indicate that to improve psychosocial adaptation of patients with permanent colostomy, the major related factors identified in this study should be considered.
