  • This study aims to examine the effects of the main eight items amended in the 2013 child care center accreditation system and to provide suggestions. The participants in the study were 200 child care center teachers and staff; 150 professionals consisting of public officials in charge of child care, members for the accreditation committee, and inspectors at the site; and 144 parents. They participated in an on-line questionnaire survey conducted during the end of February, 2014. The survey questions regarding the eight changed items were the same to all the three participating groups, and three more questions were asked to child care center teachers and staff. The collected data were analyzed with frequencies and percentages to present general recognition level. For a group comparison, analysis of variance was first performed among 3 professional groups, all of which has the same size. When there was not a statistically significant difference among the three groups, the second analysis of variance was done among three groups of professionals including the three groups, teachers and staff, and parents. The results showed that there were differences in recognition among the groups regarding each changed item in the 2013 child care center accreditation system, but overall, the groups evaluated the main amendments positively and the changes were considered appropriate and necessary. However, it was found that in-depth reviews are needed of procedure unification to check the basics to require legal compliance; management of unaccredited centers such as valid period reduction and no accreditation, or limit for re-accreditation application; and the burdens of child care centers about surprise visits and notice of inspection dates in advance.

  • This study used 3D anthropometric data from the 8th Size Korea to type and analyze whole body shapes of obese women in their 20s and 30s, and constructed dimensional data for human body items needed to create a 3D human body model for each type. The data analysis used data from 148 obese women in their 20s and 30s, and a total of 48 index values, drop values, and angle items were subjected to factor analysis and one-way variance analysis to categorize body types and verify significant differences by type. As a result of the factor analysis, 12 factors were extracted and divided into 4 body types. Type 1 is a 'standard type with a curved torso with balanced upper and lower body lengths', Type 2 is a 'bending forward type with a short, thick lower body, and an uncurved torso', Type 3 is a 'lean back type with a long and thin lower body and an H-shape torso', Type 4 is a 'sway back type with a long and thick lower body and abdominal obesity'. The representative body type of obese women in their 20s and 30s was identified as Type 1. The constructed body shape information will be used as basic data for future 3D human body modeling.

  • The concentration of gaseous mercury (Hg) was measured at hourly intervals along with relevant environmental parameters from two monitoring stations (Hannam and Kwachun) in Seoul metropolitan city during September 1999 to July 2000. Irrespective of the environmental and areal differences in the two locations, the concentrations of observed Hg levels were remarkably compatible each other. The results showed that the mean Hg level in Hannam was measured to be 5.34${\pm}$3.92 ngm$^{-3}$ (N = 2576), while that of Kwachun was 5.25${\pm}$2.53 ngm$^{-3}$ (N = 1992). Using these measurement data, we inspected Hg distribution and behavior at various time scale. When the data were analyzed at 24 hr scale, the distribution patterns for the two areas were distinguished by enrichment in either night(Hannam) or day (Kwachun). The patterns for seasonal distributions were also opposing each other such as the occurrences of peak during winter (Hannam) or summer (Kwachun). In order to analyze the factors affecting Hg distributions between two sites over different time scale, we conducted both correlation and factor analysis on both all data sets and on seasonally divided data groups. Whereas Hg exhibits strong correlations with such parameters as PM (particulate matter), SO$_2$, and NO$_2$, its relationship with meteorological parameters was not significant enough in many cases. The results of factor analysis also indicated that the Hg levels are tightly associated with most pollutants, explaining the largest portions of statistical variance. According to our study, we conclude that patterns of Hg distributions can exhibit variable patterns depending on local source processes which we expect to be diverse among different areas.

  • Seven rice varieties and $42F_1$ hybrids of $7{\times}7$ diallel cross were used in genetic analysis for grain size, weight and shape. Effects of average heterosis for grain length and shape showed significantly negative values. GCA, SCA and RCA variances were significant for all characters and also additive variance was more important than dominance variance for grain length, width, thickness and weight. GCA effects of BG 2 and Arborio were highly positive for grain size and weight, and those of BG 2 and Nagdongbyeo were highly negative for grain shape. Partial dominance was observed for all characters. The direction of dominance was negative for grain length, width and shape, and ambidirections for grain thickness and weight. The effective gene number was two for grain length and shape. Both narrow and broad sense heritability were high in all characters.

  • PURPOSE. To evaluate the effects of surface treatments on shear bond strength (SBS) between microwave and conventionally sintered zirconia core/veneers. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 96 disc shaped Noritake Alliance zirconia specimens were fabricated using YenaDent CAM unit and were divided in 2 groups with respect to microwave or conventional methods (n=48/group). Surface roughness (Ra) evaluation was made with a profilometer on randomly selected microwave (n=10) and conventionally sintered (n=10) cores. Specimens were then assessed into 4 subgroups according to surface treatments applied (n=12/group). Groups for microwave (M) and conventionally (C) sintered core specimens were as follows; $M_C$,$C_C$: untreated (control group), $M_1,C_1:Al_2O_3$ sandblasting, $M_2,C_2$:liner, $M_3,C_3:Al_2O_3$ sandblasting followed by liner. Veneer ceramic was fired on zirconia cores and specimens were thermocycled (6000 cycles between $5^{\circ}-55^{\circ}C$). All specimens were subjected to SBS test using a universal testing machine at 0.5 mm/min, failure were evaluated under an optical microscope. Data were statistically analyzed using Shapiro Wilk, Levene, Post-hoc Tukey HSD and Student's t tests, Two-Way-Variance- Analysis and One-Way-Variance-Analysis (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. Conventionally sintered specimens ($1.06{\pm}0.32{\mu}m$) showed rougher surfaces compared to microwave sintered ones ($0.76{\pm}0.32{\mu}m$)(P=.046), however, no correlation was found between SBS and surface roughness (r=-0.109, P=.658). The statistical comparison of the shear bond strengths of $C_3$ and $C_1$ group (P=.015); $C_C$ and $M_C$ group (P=.004) and $C_3$ and $M_3$ group presented statistically higher (P=.005) values. While adhesive failure was not seen in any of the groups, cohesive and combined patterns were seen in all groups. CONCLUSION. Based on the results of this in-vitro study, $Al_2O_{3-}$ sandblasting followed by liner application on conventionally sintered zirconia cores may be preferred to enhance bond strength.

  • This study tests homogeneity and performs multiple comparison analysis among treatment levels of each factor group through t-test by materials and analysis of variance by structural type and service period. For that descriptive statistical analysis is performed for static and dynamic response characteristics and their ratios of calculated versus measured values based on a good many safety assessment reports for bridges. Homogeneity and post hoc test based on descriptive statistical analysis provide the measures for homogeneity identification among comparison groups in addition to the statistical reference values such as central tendency, variation and shape. This study is expected to be valuable for structural integrity assessment and design by comparing the measured and calculated values with the reference values for the homogeneous group identified, which can help the engineers review the adequacy of the values and put the group database to practical use.

  • Following the U.S sub-prime mortgage crisis and a slump in properties market, the probability is rising that housing investment would not yield high profit as it used to do until early 2000s. For this reason, the nature of properties market is undergoing a change from a source of lucrative investment to a source of a relatively low but stable profit, such as profit-oriented real estate. This trend is likely to promote REITs market, which is a leading product for indirect investment. Until now, the REITs market has been growing slowly compared to a general housing market or financial markets. However, as the importance of risk management based on portfolio theories increases, stable profit generation of REITs can be effective in risk management. This study conducts an empirical analysis on how investment risks can be diversified by including REITs-a source of relatively stable profit in the equity market-in investment portfolio. The analysis results showed that, similar to food and beverage stocks of highly defensive nature, REITs has a relatively weak correlation with KOSPI that reflects the overall market performance. It also showed very low standard deviation in case of minimum variance portfolio. This suggests that including REITs in investment portfolio can be as effective as including food and beverage stocks for risk diversification. Due to uncertainties, investment always accompanies risks, and balancing potential profits and risks is essential.

  • The present study aims to find out the necessary speech sound level which can satisfy with the speech intelligibility in a noisy classroom environments. For this, auralized materials were made to undertake listening tests with 27 people. Speech intelligibility tests were carried out using both Consonant-Vowel-Consonant (CVC) and Phonetically Balanced Words (PBW) methods. Signal to noise ratio was changed by 5 dB for each test. As a result, it was found that speech intelligibilities are increasing with larger Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). It was also found that there is a lot of difference of speech intelligibilities by SNR for syllables (CVC) with the Reverberation Time (RT) of 1.5 s. However, any significant difference was not found for words (PBW) in the case with RTs of below 0.8 s. Also, it was revealed through the 2-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test that SNR is the only attentive factor which can affect the Korean speech intelligibilities for both PBW and CVC methods. Therefore, RTs below 0.8 s could be the acoustic criteria for classroom which can minimize the effects of noise. In the case with RTs larger than 0.8 s, much larger SNR is needed to give sufficient speech intelligibility.

  • According to the Unmanned aircraft system Traffic Management (UTM), drones are permitted to fly up to 150m above ground, which is located in the atmospheric boundary layer where there is considerable wind fluctuation due to turbulence. Although it is difficult to predict when turbulence will occur drone aviation safety could be enhanced by having a better understanding of the characteristics of vertical profile of wind in the flight area. We used wind lidar (WIndMast 350M) to observe vertical profiles of wind at the test site for aviation meteorological observation equipment located near Incheon International Airport in July and September, 2022. In this study, we utilized the observed wind profile data to propose a technique for obtaining information that could help improve the drone aviation safety. The Fourier transform analysis is used to evaluate the temporal characteristics of the horizontal wind speed at various vertical levels up to 350m. We also examined the relative contribution of the variance of wind having scales of less than an hour, a crucial scale for drone flight, to the variance of wind having all scales at each vertical altitude for days with and without precipitation.

  • This study proposed a classification method of LIDAR data by using simultaneously the color information (R, G, B) and reflection intensity information (I) obtained from terrestrial LIDAR and by analyzing the association between these data through the use of statistical classification methods. To this end, first, the factors that maximize variance were calculated using the variables, R, G, B, and I, whereby the factor matrix between the principal factor and each variable was calculated. However, although the factor matrix shows basic data by reducing them, it is difficult to know clearly which variables become highly associated by which factors; therefore, Varimax method from orthogonal rotation was used to obtain the factor matrix and then the factor scores were calculated. And, by using a non-hierarchical clustering method, K-mean method, a cluster analysis was performed on the factor scores obtained via K-mean method as factor analysis, and afterwards the classification accuracy of the terrestrial LiDAR data was evaluated.
