  • We propose a unified approach to variable selection, transformation and outliers in the linear model. The procedure includes a sequential method for outlier detection and a least trimmed squares estimator for variable transformation. It uses all possible subsets regressions for model selection. Some real data analyses and the simulation results are provided to show the efficiency of the methods in the context of the correct variable selection and the fitness of the estimated model.

  • In decision tree analysis, C4.5 and CART algorithm have some problems of computational complexity and bias on variable selection. But QUEST algorithm solves these problems by dividing the step of variable selection and split point selection. When input variables are continuous, QUEST algorithm uses ANOVA F-test under the assumption of normality and homogeneity of variances. In this paper, we investigate the influence of violation of normality assumption and effect of the transformation of variables in the QUEST algorithm. In the simulation study, we obtained the empirical powers of variable selection and the empirical bias of variable selection after transformation of variables having various type of underlying distributions.

  • Current credit evaluation models based on financial data make use of smoothing estimated default ratios which are transformed from each financial variable. In this work, some problems of the credit evaluation models developed by financial experts are discussed and we propose improved credit evaluation models based on the stepwise variable selection method and Box-Cox transformed data whose distribution is much skewed to the right. After comparing goodness-of-fit tests of these models, the validation of the credit evaluation models using statistical methods such as the stepwise variable selection method and Box-Cox transformation function is explained.

  • The Horvitz-Thompson(H-T) estimator is less efficient than PPS estimators in some cases. We use the two-stage variable transformation in order to remove the drawbacks and increase the efficiency of H-T estimator. We transform the auxiliary variable to use the Midzuno-Sen sampling scheme at the first stage. And the next stage, we also transform the study variable to reduce the variance of H-T estimator using the inclusion probability obtained from the first transformation. We compare the efficiency between a suggested modified H-T estimator and PPS estimators.

  • This paper presents the application of the technique Q( differential transformation to the vibration analysis of beams resting on variable two-parameter elastic foundations. The closed form series solutions for beams are obtained for various boundary conditions. Numerical calculations are carried out and compared with previously published results. The results obtained by the present method agree very well with those reported in the previous works. The present analysis shows the usefulness and validity of differential transformation in solving nonlinear problem of the free vibration.

  • The variable transformations are useful ways to guarantee the functional relationships in the model. However, the presence of outliers may undermine the accuracy of transformation. This paper deals with response transformations in the partial linear models under the existence of outliers. A new procedure for response transformation and outliers detection is proposed. The procedure uses a sequential method for identifying outliers and dynamic graphical methods for an appropriate transformation. The graphical tools make it possible to catch diagnostic information by monitoring the movement of points in the data. The procedure is illustrated with several examples. Examples show that visual clues regarding the optimal transformation, the fittness of the model and the outlyness of the observations can be checked from the series of plots.

  • Recent studies have introduced that digital transformation positively impacts firm performance. However, research on the relationship between organizational capabilities or attitudes as antecedents or situational variables for successfully driving digital transformation remains limited. Therefore, this study aims to systematically analyze how dynamic digital capabilities and the mutual relationships between organizational members' digital acceptance influence firm performance throughout the process of driving and achieving digital transformation. Research design, data, and methodology: This study developed the concepts and measurement items for each variable based on prior research. A survey was conducted with 258 companies participating in mini clusters within industrial complexes across the county. The data was analyzed using a structural equation model with the AMOS software package. Results: Based on existing literature, hypotheses were formulated regarding the causal relationships among variables, and analysis was conducted. The results indicate that digital transformation and employees' technological acceptance play a mediating role in the relationship between dynamic digital capabilities and firm performance. Specifically, the organization's dynamic digital capabilities enhance both digital transformation and technological acceptance. Moreover, digital transformation leads to higher firm performance when technological acceptance is high. Conclusions: This study has shown the importance of enhancing dynamic digital capabilities as a prerequisite for driving digital transformation and highlighted the significance of organizational members' perceptions and attitudes toward information technology. Particularly, through detailed causal analysis among the specific items of each variable, insights were gained for both academic and practical applications.

  • The vibration analysis of the circular arch as a member of a structure has been an important subject of mechanics due to its various applications to many industrial fields. In particular, circular arches with variable cross section are widely used to optimize the distribution of weight and strength and to satisfy special architectural and functional requirements. The Generalized Differential Quadrature Method (GDQM) and Differential Transformation Method (DTM) were recently proposed by Shu and Zou, respectively. In this study, GDQM and DTM were applied to the vibration analysis of circular arches with variable cross section. The governing equations of motion for circular arches with variable cross section were derived. The concepts of Differential Transformation and Generalized Differential Quadrature were briefly introduced. The non-dimensionless natural frequencies of circular arches with variable cross section were obtained for various boundary conditions. The results obtained using these methods were compared with those of previous works. GDQM and DTM showed fast convergence, accuracy, efficiency, and validity in solving the vibration problem of circular arches with variable cross section.

  • When problems occurred in the unstable and/or extreme terrain environment, formal field-driving robots were unable to provide any other options such as the transformation of the wheel and body structure, and so on. For such reason, this paper proposed a novel type of integrated wheel mechanism that can be operated as a conventional driving wheel mode and hybrid wheel-leg mode in order to be negotiated in an unstable terrain environment. The mechanical effect of the proposed variable wheel mechanism was analyzed considering the geometric constraint and power requirement of the actuator for the transformation. In addition, we designed and manufactured the prototype of field-driving robot, which reliably control the variable wheel shape. Finally, the effectiveness of the variable wheel mechanism was verified by preliminary experimental approach.
