In this paper, a new variable wavelet packet decomposition audio coder, based on the time varying characteristic of the audio signals, is proposed and presents a technique to incorporate psychoacoustic models into an adaptive wave let packet scheme. The proposed filterbank improves the defect of the polyphase filterbank that could not properly represent the critical band and the defect of QMF-tree filter that need high complexity to implement. The filterbank consists of varying number of subband from 4 to 26 bands and use Daubechies 6-order wave let. The codec yields excellent quality at total bit rates of about 128kbps for monophonic CD-quality signals with an sampling frequency of 44.1kHz and reduces complexity by 19% for various bit-rates and sources with encoding and decoding process.

The performances of embedded adaptive differential pulse code modulation (ADPCM), embedded adaptive delta modulation (ADM), and the same systems with a delayedfecision scheme have been studied with real speech over a wide dynamic range. The embedded ADPCM and ADM coders have been obtained by modifying the conventional ADPCM and ADM coders. The basic scheme of the embedded ADPCM coder is based on the ADPCM originally proposed by Cummiskey et at. For embedded ADM systems, we have modified continuously variable slope DM (CVSD) and hybrid commanding DM (HCDM) systems. Among these embedded coders, the performance of the embedded HCDM is superior to the other coders over a wide range of transmission rate from 16 to 64 kbits/s, When the delayedtecision scheme is applied to the embedded ADPCM the performance is improved significantly at all transmission rates. But, in the embedded ADM systems with 16 kHz sampling rate, the performance improvement resulting from delayed decision is not drastic as is in the embedded ADPCM with the same number of delayed samples.

This paper presents an adaptive repetitive control scheme for optical disk drives to track a variable periodic reference signal. Periodic disturbances can be adequately attenuated using the concept of repetitive control, provided the period is known. Because optical disk drives support various speeds, they have the varying periodic disturbances. Based on repetitive control to change sampling frequency to follow the change of reference period, an adaptive repetitive control is proposed in order to deal with such disturbances. The proposed control consists of the repetitive controller and the frequency generator. The former uses a varying sampler operating at fixed multiple times of the disturbance frequency and the latter generates the changeable sampling frequency based on the disturbance frequency. The experimental results on the control of an optical disk drive demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed schemes and the improvement of random access time as well.

Direct torque control(DTC) of induction machines is known to offer fast instantaneous torque and flux control with a simple control structure. However, this scheme has two major disadvantageous, namely, a variable inverter switching frequency and a high torque ripple. These problems occur due to the use of hysteresis comparators in conventional DTC schemes, particularly in controlling the output torque. This paper reviews the utilization of constant frequency torque controllers (CFTC) in DTC to solve these problems while retaining the simple control structure of DTC. Some extensions of the work in utilizing a CFTC will be carried out in this paper which can further reduce the torque ripple. This is particularly useful for a system which has a limited/low sampling frequency. The feasibility of a CFTC with an extended carrier frequency in minimizing the torque ripple is verified through experimental results.

Self-efficacy has been extensively evaluated, but no studies have investigated the effect of self-efficacy on the self-reliance of women in poor-households economic productivity. This study analyzes self-efficacy as a personal factor, learning processes, and social support as an environmental factor towards the achievement of self-reliance in women from poor-households in productive economy businesses. Despite the dominant logic of this scheme, there is a need for field-based data regarding whether the variable really supports the sustainable empowerment of poor-households women. This study used the quantitative method through the survey technique. The samples of this study included 250 people collected from five regencies in Indonesia by using a multiple-stage random sampling. The data were analyzed with structural equation modeling. The results show that social support has a significant positive impact on the learning process; social support has a direct negative impact on self-efficacy. The learning process has a direct positive influence on self-efficacy, while social support has a non-significant impact on self-reliance. The learning process has a direct influence on self-reliance. Social support and the learning process both have significant positive impact on self-efficacy. Social support, learning process, and self-efficacy simultaneously have a positive impact on self-reliance in productive economic activities.
Most of all, DTC drive is very simple in its implementation because it needs only two hysteresis comparator and switching vector table for both flux and torque control. The switching strategy of a conventional direct torque control scheme which is based on hysteresis comparator results in a variable switching frequency which depends on the speed, flux, stator voltage and the hysteresis of the comparator. The amplitude of hysteresis band greatly influences on the drive performance such as flux and torque ripple and inverter switching frequency. In this paper the influence of the amplitudes of flux and torque hysteresis bands and sampling time of control program on the torque and flux ripples are investigated. Simulation results confirm the superiority of the DTC under the proposed method over the conventional DTC.

Model reference control is control method such that overall response of a plant plus controller approaches that of a given reference model. The reference model provides desired trajectory the plant should follow. There are many kinds of control methods in MRC. However, this paper focuses on Model Reference Sliding Mode Control. The plant of these controls is an uncertain and linear system varying in time, of second order, and with SISO. In this paper, a design scheme of reference model is proposed for MRSMC. The scheme determines reference model based on the information on bounded control inputs, reference inputs and system parameters. It is used to choose a Fixed Reference Model in the process of controller design, to update Variable Reference Model when stepwise reference inputs change and to update Instant Reference Model at every sampling time. The simulation results show that the proposed method yields better control performance than the conventional MRC subject to the stepwise reference input when applied to the position control system for motor system.

This paper deals with a novel full digital control of the single-phase PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) inviter for UPS(Uninterruptible Power Supp1y). The voltage and current of output filter capacitor as a state variable are the feedback control input. In the proposed scheme a double deadbeat control consisting of minor current control loop and major voltage control loop have been developed In addition, a second order deadbeat currents control which should be exactly equal to its reference in two sampling time without error and overshoot is proposed to remove the influence of the calculation time delay. The load current prediction is achieved to compensate the load disturbance. The simulation and experimental result shows that the proposed system offers an output voltage with THD(Total Harmonic Distortion) less than 5% at a full nonlinear load.
By estimating probability distributions of the good solutions in the current population, some researchers try to find the optimal solution more efficiently. Particularly, finite mixtures of distributions have a very useful role in dealing with complex problems. However, it is difficult to choose the number of components in the mixture models and merge superior partial solutions represented by each component. In this paper, we propose a new continuous evolutionary optimization algorithm with distribution estimation by variational Bayesian mixtures of factor analyzers. This technique can estimate the number of mixtures automatically and combine good sub-solutions by sampling new individuals with the latent variables. In a comparison with two probabilistic model-based evolutionary algorithms, the proposed scheme achieves superior performance on the traditional benchmark function optimization. We also successfully estimate the parameters of S-system for the dynamic modeling of biochemical networks.
