Variable Structure Control for Mechatronics Application (메카트로닉스에의 적용을 위한 가변구조제어)

  • In this paper, a new variable structure controller (VSC) is presented. The presented VSC can be applicable to most mechatronic systems such as robotics. A VSC (or also called sliding mode control;SMC) algorithm is presented first, and next, a VSC with nonlinear integral control algorithms is presented. The algorithms use no linear approximation for the derivation of the control law or in the stability proof. It is shown that the robustness of the developed algorithms are guaranteed by the sliding mode control and that the algorithms are globally convergent.

  • 모델 불확실성이 있고 n축 자유도(degree of freedom)를 갖고 있는 로봇 동작부(manipulator)에 대해서 위치 정보만을 이용하여 가변 구조 제어기(variable structure controller)를 설계하였다. 모델의 불확실성이 존재하는 경우에도 제어기에 사용되는 속도를 잘예측하기 위해 고이득 관찰기를 사용 하였으며 고이득 관찰기를 사용할때 발생할 수 있는 상태변수의 피킹현상(peak phenomenon)를 적게 하게 하기위하여 제어기의 값을 제한 (globally bounded)하여 제어기를 설계하였다. 부하(payload)의 범위만 알고 있는 2축 자유도를 갖는 로봇 동작부에 대해서 제안된 제어 방법에 따라 제어기를 설계하여 그 성능를 확인 하였다.

  • Brushless DC(BLDC) motor have been increasingly used in machine tools and robotics applications due to the reliability and the efficiency. In control of BLDC motor, it is important to construct the controller which is robust to parameter variations and external disturbances. Variable structure controller(VSC) has been known as a powerful tool in robust control of time varying systems. In practical systems, however, VSC has a high frequency chattering which deteriorates system performances. In this paper, a binary controller(BC) which takes the form of VSC and MRAC combined is presented to solve this problem. BC consists of the primary loop controller and the external loop controller to change the gain of primary loop controller smoothly. So it can generate the continuous control input and is insensitive to parameter variations in the given domain. To confirm the validity, various investigations of control characteristics for various design parameters in a position control system of BLDC motor are carried out.   • In recent years, the demand for the distribution of energy resource has been increasing. However, the output power is limited by the stability of the distribution network. This study proposes an active distribution network that can reconfigure the distribution line using an active phase controller. The conventional distribution network has a fixed structure, whereas the proposed active distribution network has a variable structure. Therefore, the active distribution network can increase the output power of the distribution energy resource and reduce the overload of distribution line facilities. The active phase controller has two operation modes to minimize the circulating current during dynamic reconfiguration. In this study, the voltage and current control algorithms are proposed for the active phase controller. The proposed method for the active phase controller is simulated via PSIM simulation.

  • In this paper, Nonlinear VSS control based on bang-bang control concept is derived under the assumption that the control input is bounded. We try to derive control algorithm which has almost same performance as the time optimal control. We focus this control scheme on the real implementation of DC motor position controller of flexible link, i.e. we obtain the switching curves from the real data of DC motor system operating under the full maximum and minimum applied voltages. State space is separated into several regions and we set different switching surfaces in each region to reduce chattering problem. The efficiency of the proposed controller is compared with PID controller and it is shown that the controller converges fast than PID controller without chattering. The hybrid controller scheme is also proposed not only to control the position of hub but also to reduce the vibration of end tip of flexible link.

  • In this paper, we present a GP-PID(Generalized Predictive PID) controller which has the same structure as a generalized predictive control with steady-state weighting. The proposed controller can perform better than the conventional PID controller because it includes intrinsic delay-time compensator. The PID tuning parameters and delay-time compensator are calculated by equating the two degree of freedom PID to a linear form of GPC. The proposed controller is combined with a supervisor for safe start and self-tuning. GP-PID controller has been tested for various numerical models and an experimental stirred tank heater. As a result, it was observed that the proposed controller shows a satisfactory performance for variable delay as well as stochastic disturbance.

  • This paper presents the design of a now controller for the read/write head of a hard disk drive. The general controller for seeking is the time-optimal control. However if we use only the time optimal control law, this could be vulnerable to chattering effect. To solve this problem, we propose a modified controller design algorithm in this paper. The proposed controller consists of bang-bang control for seeking and sliding-mode control for tracking. Moreover, to test the robustness and stability of control system, a bounded disturbance is selected to maximize a severity index. Simulation results show the superiority of the proposed controller through comparison with time optimal VSC(variable structure control).

A new scheme for discrete implicit adaptive observer and controller (이산형 적응관측자 및 제어기의 새로운 구성)

  • Many different schemes of the adaptive observer and controller have been developed for both continuous and discrete systems. In this paper we have presented a new scheme of the reduced order adaptive observer for the single input discrete linear time invariant plant. The output equation of the plant, is transformed into the bilinear form in terms of system parameters and the states of the state variable filters. Using the plant output equation the discrete implicit adaptive observer based on the similar philosophy to Nuyan and Carroll is derived and the parameter adaptation algorithm is derived based on the exponentially weighted least square method. The adaptive model following control system is also constructed according to the proposed observer scheme. The proposed observer and controller are rather than simple structure and have a fast adaptive algorithm, so it may be expected that the scheme is suitable to the practical application of control system design. The effectiveness of the algorithm and structure is illustrated by the computer simulation of a third order system. The simulation results show that the convergence speed is proportinal to the increasing of weighting factor alpha, and that the full order and reduced order observer have similar convergence characteristics.

  • In this paper, a self-organizing fuzzy controller(SOFC) for the industrial robot manipulator with a actuator located at the base is studied A fuzzy login composed of linguistic conditional statements is employed by defining the relations of input-output variable of the controller, In the synthesis of a FLC, one of the most difficult problems is the determination of linguistic control rules from the human operators. To overcome this difficult SOFC is proposed for a hierarchical control structure consisting of basic level and high level that modify control rules. The proposed SOFC scheme is simple in structure, fast in computations and suitable for implementation of real-time control. Performance of the SOFC is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for robot with low joints.

  • This paper presents the design of simple robust controller for a class of uncertain multivariable systems. We introduce switching dynamics instead of switching logics unlike variable structure control scheme. Also, we can construct the continuous control law from this switching dynamics and consequently remove the chattering motion. The dynamic equations of the range-space of a switching surface matrix C and uniform ultimate boundedness in the presence of parameter uncertainties are described mathematically.
