Traditional propellants which have a hypergolic characteristic have a high performance but also have disadvantages of toxicity and complex handling requirement. In order to replace these propellants, one of the alternatives is hydrogen peroxide which generates high temperature oxygen and water vapor after catalytic reaction. In this paper, autoignition characteristics of kerosene by decomposed hydrogen peroxide were investigated to perform fundamental research for designing a thruster using hydrogen peroxide and kerosene propellants. Contraction ratio, whether flame holder exists or not, and feeding pressure of propellants were selected as variables. From the experiments for different mixture ratio, we confirmed the ignition stability is strongly affected by a feeding pressure of propellants.
In this study, spray characteristics of n-heptane and propane were investigated under different injection pressure using various imaging techniques such as Mie-scattering, DBI (diffuse back-illumination), and Schlieren imaging techniques. NI compact RIO system was used to control a test injector. Spray penetration length, length-to-width ratio and number of black pixels were calculated by using MATLAB software to compare spray characteristics of each fuel. Longer spray penetration length and higher length-to-width ratio were observed in propane spray because of flash boiling caused by high saturated vapor pressure. Spray collapse occurred in propane spray due to the high plume-to-plume interaction. Moreover, rapid evaporation occurred in propane spray, so that nozzle tip wetting could not be observed. Rapid evaporation of propane also caused fewer residual droplets compared to n-heptane spray. Therefore, propane is advantageous in reducing the generation of soot emission from large droplets that are not atomized. However, additional evaluation should be conducted considering combustion efficiency and the possibility of deposits by nozzle tip icing during fuel injection.

YB $a_2$C $u_3$$O_{7-x}$ (YBCO) films were deposited on (100) SrTi $O_3$ single crystal substrates by a metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) system of hot-wall type using single liquid source. Under the condition of the mole ratio of Y(tmhd)$_3$:Ba(tmhd)$_2$:Cu(tmhd)$_2$= 1:2.1:2.9. the deposition pressure of 10 Torr. the MO source line speed of 15 cm/min. the Ar/ $O_2$ flow rate of 800/800 sccm. YBCO films were prepared at the deposition temperatures of 780∼89$0^{\circ}C$. In case of the YBCO films with 2.2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness deposited for 6 minutes at 86$0^{\circ}C$. XRD pattern showed complete c-axis growth and SEM morphology showed dense and crack-free surface. The atomic ratios of Ba/Y and Cu/Ba in the film were 1.92 and 1.56. respectively. The deposition rate of the film was as high as 0.37 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/min. The critical temperature ( $T_{c.zero}$) of the film was 87K. The critical current of the film was 104 A/cm-width. and the critical current density was 0.47 MA/$\textrm{cm}^2$. For the thinner film of 1.3 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness. the critical current density of 0.62 MA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ was obtained.d.
The observation of liquid water content(LWC) and the estimation of precipitation enhancement by cloud seeding were made over the Andong in Korea from March 1997 through Feb 1998. A dual-channel microwave radiometer was used to measure the liquid water content and water vapor. It was shown that the 90% of observational period had the amount of less than 0.1 mm in LWC, and that the amount of precipitation was proportionally increased to liquid water content. The amount of LWC has maximum in summer and minimum in winter. The content of liquid cloud water was showed higher value from the time of 12 to the time of 17 except for summer season in which it extremely fluctuated with a large precipitation. The majority of liquid water content over the area occurred with westerly and southwesterly wind which were flowed from the Sobaek mountain. The ratio of horizontal LWC flux and vertical precipitation flux, $P_{en}$ is almost ranked in the interval of 0.0~0.5 with maximum of 0.5 in spring, 0.2 in summer and fall, and 0.1 in winter. Accordingly, it is estimated that the potential enhancement of precipitation over Andong area by cloud seeding has high value in spring with westerly wind.

In this study, we investigate the pool boiling enhancement caused by perforated plates on top of a smooth surface. We conduct tests using R-123 at atmospheric pressure. It was shown that perforated plates significantly enhanced the pool boiling of the smooth surface. The reason may be attributed to the increased bubble contact area between the plates. The results showed that the enhancement ratio was dependent on the heat flux. At high heat flux, the enhancement ratio increased as the porosity increased. However, at low heat flux, the enhancement ratio decreased as the porosity increased. For the present investigation, the optimum configuration had a pore diameter of 2.0 mm, pore pitch of $2.5mm{\times}5.0mm$ or $5.0mm{\times}5.0mm$, and a gap width of 0.5 mm, which yielded heat-transfer coefficients that are close to those of GEWA-T. The optimum porosity for R-123 was significantly larger than that of water or ethanol. The reason for this may be the large liquid-to-vapor density ratio along with the small latent heat of vaporization of R-123. The perforated plates yielded smaller boiling hysteresis compared with that of the smooth surface.

This study investigated the interaction of varied plasma power with ultralow-k toluene-tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) hybrid plasma polymer thin films, as well as changing electrical and mechanical properties. The hybrid thin films were deposited on silicon(100) substrates by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) system. Toluene and tetraethoxysilane were utilized as organic and inorganic precursors. In order to compare the electrical and the mechanical properties, we grew the hybrid thin films under various conditions such as rf power of plasma, bubbling ratio of TEOS to toluene, and post annealing temperature. The hybrid plasma polymer thin films were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM), nanoindenter, I-V curves, and capacitance. Also, the hybrid thin films were analyzed by using ellipsometry. The refractive indices varied with the RF power, the bubbling ratio of TEOS to toluene, and the annealing temperature. To analyze their trends of electrical and mechanical properties, the thin films were grown under conditions of various rf powers. The IR spectra showed them to have completely different chemical functionalities from the liquid toluene and TEOS precursors. Also, The SiO peak intensity increased with increasing TEOS bubbling ratio, and the -OH and the CO peak intensities decreased with increasing annealing temperature. The AFM images showed changing of surface roughness that depended on different deposition rf powers. An nanoindenter was used to measure the hardness and Young' modulus and showed that both these values increased as the deposition RF power increased; these values also changed with the bubbling ratio of TEOS to toluene and with the annealing temperature. From the field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) results, the thickness of the thin films was determined before and after the annealing, with the thickness shrinkage (%) being measured by using SEM cross-sectional images.

In this study, simulation and optimization works for a demethanizer column have been performed to obtain ethane and heavier products from a pretreated natural gas stream. Pretreated natural gas feed stream is partially condensed after being precooled by exchanging heat with demethanizer top vapor stream and by using an external refrigeration cycle with a propane refrigerant. Vapor stream is furtherly cooled and partially condensed through a turbo-expander and the power generated from the expansion of turbo-expander was delivered to the compressor for the residue gas compression. Liquid stream is being cooled by Joule-Thomson expansion valve and is fed to the middle section of the demethanizer. Ethane recovery percent for feed natural gas was set to 75% and methane to ethane molar ratio was fixed as 0.015. Propane refrigeration heat duty was reduced by splitting the feed stream and to exchange heat with side reboiler.
For the treatment of reactive phenolic resin waste, a simulation model of pervaporative dehydration process has been developed through hollow fiber membrane module. Some of basic parameters were determined directly from dehydration of the waste liquid through a flat sheet membrane to get realistic values. The simulation model was verified by comparing the simulated values with experimental data obtained from hollow fiber membrane module. Hollow fiber membranes with active layer coated on inside fiber were used, and feed flew through inside hollow fiber. Feed flow rate affected membrane performances and reaction by providing a corresponding temperature distribution of feed along with fiber length. Feed temperature is also a crucial factor to determine dehydration and reaction behavior by two competing ways; increasing temperature increases permeation rate as well as water formation rate. Once the permeate pressure is well below the saturated vapor pressure of feed, permeate pressure had a slightly negative effect on permeation performance by slightly reducing driving force. As the pressure approached the vapor pressure of feed, dehydration performances declined considerably due to the activity ratio of feed and permeate.

Silicon nanowires (SiNWs), due to their unusual quantum-confinement effects that lead to superior electrical and optical properties compared to those of the bulk silicon, have been widely researched as a potential building block in a variety of novel electronic devices. The conventional means for the synthesis of SiNWs has been the vapor-liquid-solid method using chemical vapor deposition; however, this method is time consuming, environmentally unfriendly, and do not support vertical growth. As an alternate, the electroless etching method has been proposed, which uses metal catalysts contained in aqueous hydrofluoric acids (HF) for vertically etching the bulk silicon substrate. This new method can support large-area growth in a short time, and vertically aligned SiNWs with high aspect ratio can be readily synthesized with excellent reproducibility. Nonetheless, there still are rooms for improvement such as the poor surface characteristics that lead to degradation in electrical performance, and non-uniformity of the diameter and shapes of the synthesized SiNWs. Here, we report a facile method of SiNWs synthesis having uniform sizes, diameters, and shapes, which may be other than just cylindrical shapes using a modified nanosphere lithography technique. The diameters of the polystyrene nanospheres can be adjustable through varying the time of O2 plasma treatment, which serve as a mask template for metal deposition on a silicon substrate. After the removal of the nanospheres, SiNWs having the exact same shape as the mask are synthesized using wet etching technique in a solution of HF, hydrogen peroxide, and deionized water. Different electrical and optical characteristics were obtained according to the shapes and sizes of the SiNWs, which implies that they can serve specific purposes according to their types.
