  • The distribution of aquatic macrophytes in TanChon basin, a stream of the Han River, were investigated in terms of environmental gradient from June 1989 to March 1990. In the basin, 12 species of aquatic macrophytes were listed and four communities of Potamogeton crispus community. $P. octandrus$ community, $Hydrilla verticillata$ community and $Vallisneria$ asiatica community were recongized by character species. $P. crispus, P. octandrus$ and $V. asiatica$ were found in rapids while $H. verticillata , Ceratophyllum demersum$ and $Trapa japonica$ were done in pools. The depth of sediment $TanCh\u{o}n$ was showed as a exponential function of water velocity, Bd=exp (-K Wv). The values of Biochemical Oxygen Demand(BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD) and Suspendid Solid(SS) were recorded as range of 3.2~121.0mg/1, 4.2~54.5mg/1 and 4.1~114.0mg/1, respectively. And the linear positive correlation between BOD(X) and COD(Y) were expressed as Y=3.904+0.4308 X with $R^2$=0.9808 and also the correlation between BOD value(X) and SS value(Y) were done as Y=5.333+0.9606X with $R^2$=0.9700. In two dimensional analysis of BOD and water velocity, their clusters were showed similar types matching to communities classified by character species. However, no aquatic macrophyes were found at the site with BOD$\geq$50mg/l or DO$\leq$0.2mg/l.

  • This paper shows a new relational formula of multiplexing gain versus variable input bit rates useful for designing Nx1 ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) multiplexer which mixes several asynchronous bit streams with different transmission rates. The relation between multiplexing gain and input bit stream speeds is derived from the occupied mean lenght(the width per unit time) of cells and the occupation probability of the number of cells at an arbitrary instant when the rates of the periodic cell strams change randomly. And the relation between multiplexing gain and variable bit rates from different number of input bit streams is analyzed accordingly. Under the condition of unlimited multiplexing speed, the more number of input bit streams increases, the bigger the multiplexing gain becomes. While for the case which restricts the multiplexing speed to a limited value, the multiplexing gain becomes smaller contrarily as the number of input bit streams continues too invrease beyond a boundary value. It is shown that for designing an ATM multiplexer according to the latter case, the combination of input bit streams should be determined such as its total bit rate is lower thean, but most apprpaximate to, the multiplexed output speed. Also the general formula evaluating the most significant parameters which should be needed to design the multiplexer is derived.

  • One of important inconsistencies in the six-equation model predictions has been found to be the force experienced by a single bubble placed in a convergent stream of liquid. Various sets of governing equations yield different amount of forces to hold the bubble stationary in a convergent nozzle. By using the first order potential flow theory, it is found that the six-equation model can not be used to estimate the force experienced by a deformed bubble. The theoretical value of the particle stress of a bubble in a convergent nozzle flow has been found to be a function of the Weber number when bubble distortion is allowed. This force has been calculated by using different sets of governing equations and compared with the theoretical value. It is suggested in this study that the bubble size distribution function can be used to remove the presented inconsistency by relating the interfacial variables with different moments of the bubble size distribution function. This study also shows that the inconsistencies in the thermal-hydraulic governing equation can be removed by mechanistic modeling of the phasic interface.

  • In this paper, an oil hydraulic pipeline is terminated by both rotary sinusoidal flow generator at upstream oriffice at down stream. The pulsating pressure wave from generated by the rotary sinusoidal flow generator, is measured by using sensor. In the analysis of this paper, a component of the fundamental frequency is obtained by using Laplace transformation.. The experimental and analytical results make clear that (1) viscosity is significant role in hydraulic pipe. (2) When pulsating frequency is matched with the natural frequency, resonance frequency occured periodically. According to the study proposed here, dynamic pressure in a circular oil pipe is expressed in propagation of pressure wave with respect to frequency and Bessel function. The resonance at oil temperature $20^{\circ}$$0^{\circ}C$ in this study. The abrupt change of gain value is due to effect of resonance frequency. The results of experiment are compared with the calculated results, and agreement of both results is fairly good.

  • A two-dimensional laminar flow past a vertical plate in a microchannel is investigated. At far upstream and downstream from the plate in the microchannel, the plane Poiseuille flow exists. The Stokes flow for this microchannel is investigated analytically and then the laminar flow by numerical method. For the Stokes flow analysis, the method of eigenfunction expansion is used. From the results, the streamline pattern and the pressure distribution are plotted, and the additional pressure drop induced by the plate and the force exerted on the plate are calculated as functions of the length of the plate. For the laminar flow, finite difference method (FDM) is used to obtain the vorticity and the stream function. When the Reynolds number exceeds a critical value, a pair of viscous eddies appears behind the plate.

  • This study deals with the problem of selecting 6 sigma projects. Traditionally, such selection was based on CTQ (critical to quality) or COPQ (cost of poor quality) derived within business units. Since the objective of 6 sigma is to achieve business goals in a short period, 6 sigma projects should be selected and carried out in coincidence with the whole company's strategies. This paper proposes two methods of selecting 6 sigma projects: one is to identify CTQ's by analyzing the company's BSC's (balanced score card) and then deploying them into subunits of the company and the other is to identify those projects with large hidden COPQ or cost of waste by applying value stream analysis and process model simulation to derive process cost models.

  • It is well-known fact that tidal difference between the ebb and flow in Yellow Sea is about 9 m so that it has largest value in the world. This wide range of tide level enables Yellow Sea water to intrude into main stream of Han River. However, the study of the tidal reach of Han River has not been carried out thoroughly since North and South Koreas share this region so that topography data and physical measurement are lacking. In this study, to examine the reverse flow and dispersion behavior by tidal effect at the tidal reach of Han River, 2-D river analysis models were applied. RMA-2 was applied to calculate the horizontal velocities and water surface elevation. With the results of velocities and water depth, RAM4, which is 2-D advection-dispersion model based on FEM was simulated to analyze the horizontal transport behavior of BOD.

  • Face Detection is an essential first step of the face recognition, and this is significant effects on face feature extraction and the effects of face recognition. Face detection has extensive research value and significance. In this paper, we present and analysis the principle, merits and demerits of the classic AdaBoost face detection and ASM algorithm based on point distribution model, which ASM solves the problems of face detection based on AdaBoost. First, the implemented scheme uses AdaBoost algorithm to detect original face from input images or video stream. Then, it uses ASM algorithm converges, which fit face region detected by AdaBoost to detect faces more accurately. Finally, it cuts out the specified size of the facial region on the basis of the positioning coordinates of eyes. The experimental result shows that the method can detect face rapidly and precisely, with a strong robustness.
