  • Value is an intellectual and an affective concept that influences behavior. It does not exist individually but is conveyed through generation with some system. Korean students showed high achievement scores in spite of low emotion in mathematics learning. The objects of value recognition ought to be extended to social value as well as mathematics for balancing intellectual and affective features. Since the value formed at the first step in mathematics learning keeps its influence even after learning, it is important to form a positive recognition in the value. The following conclusions were drawn. First, the mathematics learning value instrument developed in this study. It is appropriate to explain a students' imbalance of intellectual and affective characteristics. Second, it is possible that the intellectual achievement of Korean students are influenced by the others-oriented value in particular. Third, the recognition of the mathematics learning value of elementary school students would have an influence on secondary school learning. Therefore, education for parents of elementary school students is required. This study can provide a basis on the view of the mathematics learning value which influences the educational result of Korean elementary students as well. It is expected from the following studies that focus on improving affective characteristics on mathematics learning of Korean students is beneficial.

  • This study was to analyze the research trend related to mathematics education evaluation in the analysis of the articles on , . The study explores the future direction of mathematics education assessment research by investigating whether such evaluation was suitable for the expectation about the assessment required in the current mathematics curriculum. This study was to classify the evaluation-related researches based on Korea educational curriculum revision from 1991-2010 to examine the research trend on the mathematics education evaluation in each season in Korea, analyze the articles by 'monitoring of student's progress', 'judgement on instruction', 'giving the value on mathematics achievement of students', 'value judgement of the program' that were the purpose of evaluation presented in 1995 NCTM(National Council of Teachers of Mathematics). As a result, looking at the research trend classified by the time of the educational curriculum revision, the 7th educational curriculum had the most number of the papers announced from 1997-2006. Despite 2007 educational curriculum revision was the short period from announced 2007-2008 before the next educational curriculum was placed, 11 papers(34.4%) were published. According to the category by the purpose of the assessment prescribed in NCTM, it showed that researches of 'monitoring of student's progress(46.9%)' were the most, those of 'value judgement of the program' and 'giving the value on mathematics achievement of students had a similar percentage.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze changing aspect of teacher and student's value in mathematics instruction. For this purpose, teacher and student's value are analyzed through value questionnaire by four times. The results of this study revealed that although value are individual's deep decision mechanism, it could change considerably by the time. Teacher wasn't compel students to follow her value. Rather, teacher was modified instruction goal to reflect students thinking what is important in mathematics lesson. First, in case of mathematical value, rationalism, objectism, mystery were convergent each other. And control was almost unchanged and openness has been onwards and upwards. Second, in case of mathematics educational value, understanding, pleasure, terminology and application were convergent each other. However achievement was almost unchanged. Also, to teach effectively, teacher using several kinds strategy while negotiate with student's value continuously. On the basis of these results, this paper includes several implications for the future study about values in mathematics which could be the critical factor in student centered instruction.

  • In this paper, we present an initial value technique for solving singularly perturbed differential difference equations with a boundary layer at one end point. Taylor's series is used to tackle the terms containing shift provided the shift is of small order of singular perturbation parameter and obtained a singularly perturbed boundary value problem. This singularly perturbed boundary value problem is replaced by a pair of initial value problems. Classical fourth order Runge-Kutta method is used to solve these initial value problems. The effect of small shift on the boundary layer solution in both the cases, i.e., the boundary layer on the left side as well as the right side is discussed by considering numerical experiments. Several numerical examples are solved to demonstate the applicability of the method.

  • In this paper, we propose an optimal choice scheme to determine the best option among comparable options whose current expectations are all the same under the condition that an investor has a confidence in the future value realization of underlying assets. For this purpose, we use a path-averaged option as our base instrument in which we calculate the time discounted value along the path and divide it by the number of time steps for a given expected path. First, we consider three European call options such as vanilla, cash-or-nothing, and asset-or-nothing as our comparable set of choice schemes. Next, we perform the experiments using historical data to prove the usefulness of our proposed scheme. The test suggests that the path-averaged option value is a good guideline to choose an optimal option.

  • A multigrid algorithm is developed for solving the one- dimensional initial boundary value problem. The numerical solutions of linear and nonlinear Burgers; equation for various initial conditions are studied. The stability conditions are derived by Von -Neumann analysis . Numerical results are presented.
