  • Initial velocity model close to real velocity structure of the subsurface governs the quality of image of prestack depth migration. Geophysicists employ velocity estimation tools such as velocity analysis (curvature method, coherency inversion), tomography and waveform inversion. We present a reflection tomography that parameterizes the subsurface into the movable blocks. By interpreting the depth-migrated section or stacked section, we can design an initial constant velocity model having only impedance boundaries. We use shooting-raytracing method that allows us to calculate the Jacobian-matrix efficiently.

  • Characteristics of breakup of a liquid droplet impinging on a hot surface has been investigated experimentally by using decane fuel. Factors influencing droplet breakup are surface temperature, impinging velocity, droplet diameter and incident angle. Droplets impinging on a hot surface begins to breakup at $220{\sim}235^{\circ}C$. This temperature varies with impinging Velocity, droplet diameter and incident angle. For wall temperature of $220{\sim}245^{\circ}C$ and above $270^{\circ}C$, breakup probability increases as impinging velocity increases showing S shape curve. For $245{\sim}265^{\circ}C$, a local minimum heat transfer rate occurs. In this temperature range, breakup probability shows nonmonotonous behavior as functions of impinging velocity. As droplet diameter decreases, impinging velocity required for droplet breakup increases. An optimum impinging angle for droplet breakup exists which are found to be about $75^{\circ}$.

  • We presented design methodology of constant velocity joint for passenger cars using design of experiment. On the basis of contact normal stress of internal components of constant velocity joints, we performed a sensitivity analysis of several design parameters. And then we performed robust design and optimization design process. As a result, we could find robust design and also propose the optimized design. Presented design process would be very helpful for engineers who are suffer for new constant velocity joint design.

  • The present experimental study is focused on the application of multi-point simultaneous measurement by PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) to rotor-stater region within centrifugal turbine pump. Six different kinds of rpm(120, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000 and 2500) are selected as experimental condition. Optimized cross correlation identification to obtain velocity vectors is implemented with direct calculation of correlation coefficients. Fine optical setup concerned with PIV performance is arranged for the accurate PIV measurement of high-speed complex flow. The instantaneous and time-mean velocity distribution and velocity profile are represented quantitatively at the rotor and stator region.

  • The shape variation of billet was investigated by numerical method and spray forming work with variation of average substrate withdrawal velocity$\bar{V}$, withdrawal velocity change interval $\Delta$t and velocity deviation from average velocity $V_{dev}$. The shape and diameter with large$\bar{V}$, $\Delta$t, $V_{dev}$ vary seriously. When $\bar{V}$, $\Delta$t, $V_{dev}$ are smaller, the shape of billet is more simillar to that of the billet with constant withdrawal velocity. The average diameter of billet is determined by only $\bar{V}$, independent of $\Delta$t, $V_{dev}$. With $\bar{V}$, : 0.2 mm/sec $\Delta$t: 200 sec and $V_{dev}$. : 0.2mm/sec billet of constant diameter 230mm$\times$ height 1000mm were manufactured.

  • An interpretation for the additive and multiplicative decomposition theory of the deformation gradient tensor in finite deformation problems is presented. the conventional methods have not provided the additive deformation velocity gradient. Moreover the plastic deformation velocity gradients are not free from elastic deformations. In this paper, a modified multiplicative decomposition is introduced with the assumption of coaxial plastic deformation velocity gradient. This strategy well gives the additive deformation velocity gradient in which the plastic deformation velocity gradient is not affect4d by the elastic deformation.

  • In the present paper, the study on the optimal horizontal air jet velocity of a range hood system has been studied by three dimensional numerical simulation. It has been shown that the air jet of a range flood system generates coanda effect confining the contaminated (high temperature) air in a certain region while the jet pushes out more contaminated air into a room as the jet velocity increases. Therefore, the optimal jet velocity has been determined by the combination of the two mechanism.

  • The shear wave velocity is directly related to the deformation characteristic of soils which is an engineering property represented by the shear modulus. This feature presents an opportunity of advantageous utilization of the shear wave velocity for deformation analysis in geotechnical engineering applications, since the deformation modulus is determined on strong theoretical basis, whereas penetration resistances such as N by SPT or qc by CPT rely on empirical relations. Furthermore, it is an engineering property that can be evaluated by performing the same basic measurement in the laboratory and field, and various problems in geotechnical engineering can be dealt with economically and reliably when the field and laboratory methods are combined effectively. In this article, assessment of nonlinear deformation characteristic of soils based on synergic use of the field and laboratory test results is described, and representative case histories of geotechnical applications of the shear wave velocity are illustrated.

  • The calibrating method for an electrochemical Probe, neglecting the effect of the normal velocity on the mass transport, can cause large errors when applied to the measurement of wall shear rates in thin wavy flow with large amplitude waves. An extended calibrating method is developed to consider the contributions of the normal velocity. The inclusion of the turbulence-induced normal velocity term is found to have a negligible effect on the mass transfer coefficient. The contribution wave-induced normal velocity can be classified on the dimensionless parameter V. If V above a critical value of V, $V_{crit}$, the effects of the wave-induced normal velocity become larger with an increase in V. IF V its effects negligible for V < $V_{crit}$. The unknown shear rate is numerically determined by solving the 2-D mass transport equation inversely. The president inverse method can predict the unknown shear rate more accurately in thin wavy flow with large amplitude waves than the previous method.

  • The most important factor of the traffic accident on the wet road is a tire slip caused by hydroplaning. Meanwhile, hydroplaning characteristics are influenced very greatly by the vehicle velocity, so it is very important to reveal the relation between hydroplaning and the vehicle velocity. Since the experiment study is considerably limited, recently the numerical simulation using finite element method(FEM) and finite volume method(FVM) is widely adopted. In this paper, the effect of the vehicle velocity on the hydroplaning characteristics is investigated through the hydroplaning analysis using MSC/Dytran.
