  • Recently, V2X (vehicle-to-everyting) communication has established itself as an essential technology for cooperative autonomous driving. V2X communication currently includes DSRC (dedicated short range communication) communication technology, which is a WLAN (wireless local area network) based communication technology, and C-V2X (cellular-V2X) communication technology, which is a Cellular-based communication technology. Since these two communication methods are not compatible with each other, various studies and experiments are being conducted to select one of the two communication methods. In the case of C-V2X communication, there are LTE-V2X (long term evolutionV2X) communication technology, which is an initial version, and 5G-V2X communication technology, which is a next-generation version. 5G-V2X communication technology has been completed only until standardization, so LTE-V2X communication technology is mainly used. In this paper, we introduce trends related to various issues in V2X communication, including communication method decisions.

  • We describes V2X technology, a connectivity-based recognition technology that is attracting attention as a key technology for implementing autonomous driving technology, and autonomous communication modules that implement ADAS technology, a sensor-based recognition technology. It also explains the trends in V2X technology standardization centered on IEEE 802.11p, which is a WAVE technology standard based on Wi-Fi/DSRC. Finally, we will discuss the market growth trend of V2X communication modules in the United States, the leading V2X technology module, and the development of technology development trends of major domestic and international companies that are leading the global technology market related to V2X communication modules. V2X and ADAS technologies will be the biggest influence on automotive purchasing decisions. In recent years, V2I mandates have been promoted beyond V2V, mainly in developed countries such as the United States. The related industry needs to focus on the development of information transmission network technology that can support high frequency high efficiency(transmission rate) and sophisticated positioning accuracy beyond conventional vehicle communication.

  • Self-driving vehicles are a type of smart vehicle with the help of ICT technology, which means a vehicle that operates without the intervention of a driver.Vehicles with vehicle safety communication technology (V2X) applied use information detected from various sensors or other vehicles/infrastructures to enable the smart vehicle to accurately and quickly predict the driver's potential danger situation, contributing to more stable autonomous driving. In this paper, among V2X communication technologies, a vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V) simulation communication technology is used to present a scenario for preventing collisions in autonomous vehicles. A vehicle collision prevention system based on V2V simulated communication was implemented and the suggested collision prevention application scenario was demonstrated. The suggested collision prevention utilization scenario can be considered as one application case of V2V communication technologies that are currently being developed/applied.

  • In the paper, we propose a design method and process of a hybrid V2X communication module that combines WAVE communication, LTE-V2X communication, and legacy LTE communication in evaluating vehicle V2X electromagnetic compatibility. C-ITS is suitable for safety service applications due to its low latency, and legacy LTE is suitable for applications such as traffic information and infotainment due to its high latency and high capacity. In order to evaluate the V2X communication system, the evaluation equipment must have communication performance of the same level or higher. The main design contents presented in this paper will be applied to the implementation of a hybrid V2X communication module for electromagnetic compatibility evaluation.

  • V2X environment is the most popular part of the C-ITS based on the high technologies. To evaluate V2X environment technologies, radio communication range and market penetration rate of V2X vehicle are used. This paper studies the V2X environment considering various traffic congestion level, radio communication range and market penetration rate of V2X vehicle using the microscopic simulation (VISSIM) based on proper parameters and algorithm. In conclusion, V2X environment can reduce the congestion in proper traffic volume. However, if traffic volume is almost near the capacity, even V2X environment can't relieve the road condition. Furthermore, increase of the radio communication range does not always mean the decrease of the congestion and even with the small market penetration rate, it can also have an impact on the V2X environment. This result will be the foundation for the V2X environment much better.

  • This paper describes the development of a target vehicle state estimation algorithm using vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication. Perceiving the state of the target vehicle has great importance for successful autonomous driving and has been studied using various sensors and methods for many years. V2V communication has advantage of not being constrained by surrounding circumstances relative to other sensors. In this paper, we adopt the V2V signal for estimating the target vehicle state. Since applying only the V2V signal is improper by its low frequency and latency, the signal is used as additional measured data to improve the estimation accuracy. We estimate the target vehicle state using Extended Kalman filter (EKF); a point mass model was utilized in process update to predict the state of next step. The process update is followed by measurement update when ego vehicle receives V2V information. The proposed study evaluated state estimation by comparing input V2V information in an experiment where the ego vehicle follows the target vehicle behind it.

  • K-city is an experimental area for developing self-driving cars. V2X communications such as WAVE, C-V2X and 5G are an essential technology for autonomous driving above level 4. In this paper, the research on the V2V communication environment was carried out through BSM receiving level analysis on the driving route in K-city. A stationary vehicle communicated with a test vehicle moving along urban area and suburban road in two different scenarios. The communication range and receiving levels obtained from this study will be used to develop and verify various safety scenarios using V2V communication within K-city in the future.

  • Recently, the evolution of V2X (Vehicle to Everything) technology is accelerating. In particular, it can be seen that C-V2X (Cellular V2X) technology and services combined with mobile telecommunication network are developing rapidly. However, in Korea, e-Call and emergency communication services are inferior to the developed communication technologies and the proportion of vehicles arriving at Golden Hour is considerably low. Therefore, this paper designed the communication architecture with C-V2X and Android operating systems, and presented ways to improve existing e-Call services using V2N (Vehicle to Nomadic Device) communication based on it.

  • The Republic of Korea aims to complete the commercialisation of Level 4+ cooperative autonomous driving in 2027. It also plans to include V2X OBU in the K-NCAP evaluation items. Therefore, communication performance safety evaluation criteria for V2X OBU need to be established, and an OBU with necessary functions is needed to develop V2X communication performance safety evaluation technology for vehicles. • Wireless access in vehicle environment (WAVE) communication is currently being researched as core wireless communication technologies for cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS). WAVE consists of both vehicle to vehicle (V2V) communication, which refers to communication between vehicles, and vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) communication, which refers to the communication between vehicles and road-side stations. V2I has a longer communication range than V2V, and its communication range and reception rate are heavily influenced by various factors such as structures on the road, the density of vehicles, and topography. Therefore, domestic environments in which there are many non-lines of sight (NLOS), such as mountains and urban areas, require optimized communication channel modeling based on research of V2I propagation characteristics. In the present study, the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) was measured on both an experience road and a test road, and the large-scale characteristics of the WAVE communication were analyzed using the data collected to assess the propagation environment of the WAVE-based V2I that is actually implemented on highways. Based on the results of this analysis, this paper proposes a WAVE communication channel model for domestic public roads by deriving the parameters of a dual-slope logarithmic distance implementing a two-ray ground-reflection model.
