MnO2 Nanowires Electrodeposited in a Porous Network of Agarose Gel as a Pseudocapacitor Electrode

  • Despite a simple preparation of manganese oxide (MnO2) nanowires by electrodeposition, the improvement in specific capacitance (Csp) and voltammetric response of the MnO2 nanowire-based electrodes has been quite limited. This is attributed to the poor electrical conductivity of MnO2 and its dense bulk morphology due to the aggregation of the nanowires. This study investigated the capacitive performance of MnO2 nanowires electrodeposited on agarose thin films. The good ionic conductivity and porous network of the agarose film provided favorable growth conditions for the MnO2 nanowires with suppressed aggregation. A maximum Csp value of 686 F/g measured at a scan rate of 10 mV/s was obtained, which was significantly larger than that of 314 F/g for the agarose-free MnO2 electrode at the same scan rate. The rate capability was also improved. The Csp measured at a high scan rate of 100 mV/s retained 74.0% of the value measured at 10 mV/s, superior to the retention of 71.1% for the agarose-free MnO2 electrode.

Electrical Properties of Porous SiO2/ITO Nano Films (다공성 SiO2/ITO 나노박막의 전기적 특성)

  • The electrical properties of porous $SiO_2/ITO$ nano thin film were studied by complex impedance and conductive mechanisms were analyzed. According to the results of complex impedance, the activation energy of $SiO_2/ITO$ and $Zn-SiO_2/ITO$ were 0.309 eV, 0.077 eV in below $450^{\circ}C$ and 0.147 eV in over $450^{\circ}C$, respectively. In case of $SiO_2/ ITO$, slightly direct tunneling occurred at room temperature. The contribution for conduction was very tiny because of high barrier of silica. However, the conductivity abruptly increased in over $300^{\circ}C$ by Thermally assisted tunneling. In case of $Zn-SiO_2/ITO$, high conductivity in 1.26 ${\Omega}^{ -1}{cdot}cm^{-1}$ at room temperature appeared by space charge conduction or Frenkel-poole emission that Zn ions play a role as localized electron states.

  • Pseudomonas sp. F721 isolated from soil produced a substance related in seeds germination inhibition. Addition of phytohormone, and GA (gibberellin acid) in the culture broth elevated production of the germination inhibition substance. The production of the substance was optimized in the culture conditions of $35^{\circ}C$, pH 9.0, 150 rpm, 48 hr, glucose 0.5% (w/v), and innoculation ratio 1.0% (v/v). The physical and chemical stability of the substance in the variety of pH ranging from 2.0 to 12.0 and from freezing to $100^{\circ}C$ were shown. The germination inhibition substance suppressed 90% of germination compared with that of the control experiment in a few days.

  • We propose a low power level-up/down shifter with single supply that can be used at SoC with multiple supply. The proposed circuit interfaces IPs which are operated on the different supply voltages. The circuit is designed with a single supply that decreases the low power consumption and the complexity of supply routing and layout. The proposed circuit operated at 500MHz for level-up and at 1GHz for level-down. The level-up/down shifter improves noise immunity of the system at I/O circuit. The circuit is evaluated for 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V supply with 0.18um CMOS technology, respectively.

  • The gellan was produced by Pseudomonas elodea under aerobic condition. In this study, the effects of inoculum size, carbon sources and concentration, nitrogen source, and C/N ratio on the cell growth and the production of gellan were evaluated. The maximum growth of P. elodea and gellan production was obtained at 5% (v/v) of inoculum size and glucose showed best results among 9 carbon sources tested. The maximum specific yield of 2.22 and productivity of $0.03 g/\ell$h were obtained at 1.0% (w/v) of glucose. The maximum gellan production was obtained at medium without ammonium nitrate. This indicates that nitrogen limitation is essential for the production of gellan. The highest cell and gellan production were obtained at 20 of C/N ratio.

Growth of $CuGaSe_2$ single crystal thin film for solar cell development and its solar cell application (태양 전지용 $CuGaSe_2$ 단결정 박막 성장과 태양전지로의 응용)

  • Single crystal $CuGaSe_2$ layers were grown on thoroughly etched semi-insulating CaAs(100) substrate at $450^{\circ}C$ with hot wall epitaxy (HWE) system by evaporating $CuGaSe_2$ source at $610^{\circ}C$. The crystalline structure of the single crystal thin films was investigated by the photoluminescence (PL) and double crystal X-ray diffraction (DCXD). The carrier density and mobility of single crystal $CuGaSe_2$ thin films measured with Hall effect by Van der Pauw method are $4.87{\times}10^{17}cm^{-3}$ and $129cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ at 293 K, respectively. The temperature dependence of the energy band gap of the $CuGaSe_2$ obtained from the absorption spectra was well described by the Varshni's relation, $E_g(T)=1.7998eV-(8.7489{\times}10^{-4}eV/K)T^2/(T+335K)$. The voltage, current density of maxiumun power, fill factor, and conversion, efficiency of $n-CdS/p-CuGaSe_2$, heterojunction solar cells under $80mW/cm^2$ illumination were found to be 0.41 V, $21.8mA/cm^2$, 0.75 and 11.17%, respectively.

  • In this study, HEVC over DVB-T2 systems with a bandwidth of 6 MHz is considered, particularly for the terrestrial 4K-UHDTV broadcasting service in the Republic of Korea. The threshold of visibility carrier-to-noise power ratio (ToV C/N) and the receiver minimum required input level (sensitivity) for satisfying the subjective picture failure (SPF) condition are measured in the laboratory. It is observed, for transmitting 26.37 Mbps data stream correctly, that ToV C/N is 18.8 dB on average, and the receiver sensitivity is varied from minimum -84.2 dBm to maximum -80.0 dBm. Based on the results, the receiver noise floor is calculated by -100 dBm on average.

Effects of Nutritional Supplementation of Cereal-Vegetable Diet on the Growth of Rats (I) - Especially on Protein Metabolism - (곡류.야채식이의 영양소 보완이 흰쥐의 성장에 미치는 영향 (I) - 단백질 대사를 중심으로 -)

  • This study was designed to find out the nutritional defect of general Korean diet and the effective way of nutritional supplementation. Seventy weanling Sprague-Dawley male rats weighing 51.8$\pm$0.9g were blocked into ten groups and fed ten different diets ad libitum for eight weeks: Standard groups(st gp) was given 72% sugar-20% casein diet: Cereal-vegetable group(c-v gp) was fed cereal-vegetable diet(c-v diet) composed of rice, barley, soybean, spinach and cabbage: the other eight groups were fed c-v diets supplemented with casein, vitamin $B_{2}$, calcium, vitamin A, vitamin B2 and A, vitamin A and calcium, vitamin $B_{2}$ and calcium, vitamin A and $B_{2}$and calcium, respectively, on the basis of each nutrients content of standard diet. The results were as follows: 1. Food intakes and body weight gains in all the experimental groups were significantly lower than st gp. Among experimental groups, casein gp and vit B2 gp tended to gain more body weights than c-v gp. 2. Through all the experimental period, F.E.R., pp.E.R., and NDPcal% did nod show significant differences among all the experimental groups and st gp. 3. The weights of liver, kidney, and gastrocnemius were significantly lower in all the experimental groups as compared with st gp. But brain and sex organ weights did not show differences among all the groups. 4. Nitrogen contents of total carcass, liver, and gastrocnemius in all the experimental groups tended to be increased as compared with st gp, and among experimental groups, they tended to be increased by casein supplementation and decreased by ca supplementation. 5. Apparent nitrogen digestibility, urinary and fecal nitrogen excretion, the amount of nitrogen retained, and N.P.U. did not show any significant differences among all the groups. 6. Serum total protein concentrations did not show any significant differences among all the groups.

Evaluation of Acid Digestion Procedures to Estimate Mineral Contents in Materials from Animal Trials

  • Rigorously standardized laboratory protocols are essential for meaningful comparison of data from multiple sites. Considering that interactions of minerals with organic matrices may vary depending on the material nature, there could be peculiar demands for each material with respect to digestion procedure. Acid digestion procedures were evaluated using different nitric to perchloric acid ratios and one- or two-step digestion to estimate the concentration of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and zinc in samples of carcass, bone, excreta, concentrate, forage, and feces. Six procedures were evaluated: ratio of nitric to perchloric acid at 2:1, 3:1, and 4:1 v/v in a one- or two-step digestion. There were no direct or interaction effects (p>0.01) of nitric to perchloric acid ratio or number of digestion steps on magnesium and zinc contents. Calcium and phosphorus contents presented a significant (p<0.01) interaction between sample type and nitric to perchloric acid ratio. Digestion solution of 2:1 v/v provided greater (p<0.01) recovery of calcium and phosphorus from bone samples than 3:1 and 4:1 v/v ratio. Different acid ratios did not affect (p>0.01) calcium or phosphorus contents in carcass, excreta, concentrate, forage, and feces. Number of digestion steps did not affect mineral content (p>0.01). Estimated concentration of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and zinc in carcass, excreta, concentrated, forage, and feces samples can be performed using digestion solution of nitric to perchloric acid 4:1 v/v in a one-step digestion. However, samples of bones demand a stronger digestion solution to analyze the mineral contents, which is represented by an increased proportion of perchloric acid, being recommended a digestion solution of nitric to perchloric acid 2:1 v/v in a one-step digestion.

Comparison of Hydrolysis from In Vitro Digestion Using Symmetric and Asymmetric Triacylglycerol Compounds by Enzymatic Interesterification (효소적으로 합성된 대칭형과 비대칭형 Triacylglycerol 혼합물의 In Vitro Digestion에서의 소화율 비교)

  • For developing indigestible lipids, symmetric triacylglycerol (ST) and asymmetric triacylglycerol (AT) were produced by enzymatic interesterification using high oleic sunflower oil, palmitic ethyl ester, and stearic ethyl ester in a shaking water bath. Used enzymes were Lipozyme RMIM for ST and Lipozyme TLIM for AT. To remove ethyl ester from reactants, methanol fractionation (reactant : methanol=1:5, w/v, $25^{\circ}C$) and florisil separation (reactant : florisil=1:8, w/w) were applied. Acetone fractionation (reactant : acetone=1:9, w/v) was implemented to separate triacylglcerol (TAG) species into ST and AT. Fractions I (before fractionation), II (after fractionation, liquid phase) and III (after fractionation, solid phase) were separated from ST, whereas fractions IV (after 1st fractionation, liquid phase) and V (after 2nd fractionation, solid phase) were from AT. From sn-2 fatty acid composition analysis, the sum of palmitic acid (C16:0) and stearic acid (C18:0) was 4.9~6.5 area% in ST (I, II, III), and 41.9~43.9 area% in AT (IV, V). In vitro digestion was performed for 0, 15, 30, 60, and 120 minutes at $37^{\circ}C$ in a shaking water bath. For the digestion results, hydrolysis of V was only 40% compared to others (I, II, III, IV) at 120 minutes due to its melting point ($49^{\circ}C$). However, initially (15 minutes), hydrolysis (%) was as follows: V$32.5^{\circ}C$, $31.8^{\circ}C$) and different slip melting points ($31.3^{\circ}C$, $19.5^{\circ}C$). Even though IV has a lower TAG content composed of two saturated fatty acids than III, it had a similar melting point.
