A self-localization algorithm for a mobile robot using perspective invariant

  • This paper presents a new algorithm for the self-localization of a mobile robot using perspective invariant(Cross Ratio). Most of conventional model-based self-localization methods have some problems that data structure building, map updating and matching processes are very complex. Use of the simple cross ratio can be effective to the above problems. The algorithm is based on two basic assumptions that the ground plane is flat and two parallel walls are available. Also it is assumed that an environmental map is available for matching between the scene and the model. To extract an accurate steering angle for a mobile robot, we take advantage of geometric features such as vanishing points(V.P). Point features for computing cross ratios are extracted robustly using a vanishing point and the intersection points between floor and the vertical lines of door frames. The robustness and feasibility of our algorithms have been demonstrated through experiments in indoor environments using an indoor mobile robot, KASIRI-II(KAist SImple Roving Intelligence).

CCD PHOTOMETRY OF THE GALAXIES ESO598-G009, NGC1515 AND NGC7456

  • We performed CCD surface photometry in B,V,R and I filters for three southern spiral galaxies:ESO598-G009,NGC1515 and NGC7456. Isophotal map, luminosity profile, ellipticity profile and position angle profile were obtained for these galaxies using SPIRAL package. The results show that one of the galaxies, ESO598-G009 has relatively large bulge component and changes in position angle due to spiral arms. The NGC7456 has very small bulges; and the isophotal map of the NGC1515 shows that it is a typical spiral galaxy with bar.

  • Let G be a (p, q) graph. Let f be a map from V (G) to {1, 2, ${\ldots}$, p}. For each edge uv, assign the label ${\mid}f(u)-f(\nu){\mid}$. f is called a difference cordial labeling if f is a one to one map and ${\mid}e_f(0)-e_f(1){\mid}{\leq}1$ where $e_f(1)$ and $e_f(0)$ denote the number of edges labeled with 1 and not labeled with 1 respectively. A graph with admits a difference cordial labeling is called a difference cordial graph. In this paper, we investigate the difference cordial labeling behavior of triangular snake, Quadrilateral snake, double triangular snake, double quadrilateral snake and alternate snakes.

Bathymetry and Morphotectonic Elements in the Ulleung Basin, East Sea of Korea

  • A detailed bathymetric map is used to construct a morphotectonic map of the Ulleung Basin. The definition of "morphotectonics" and the procedure of the morphotectonic mapping are described in detail. The morphotectonic structural elements of various orders and ranks are also determined using echo-sounding and other geophysical data. Preliminary analysis shows that the newly determined morpho-structural elements coincide with the locations of deeper tectonic features established by the geophysical evidences of the inner sedimentary and/or crustal sections. Therefore, the tectonic zone of the Ulleung Basin has imprinted the patterns of the inherited evolution since Neogene.e Neogene.

Flashover Prediction of Polymeric Insulators Using PD Signal Time-Frequency Analysis and BPA Neural Network Technique

  • Flashover of power transmission line insulators is a major threat to the reliable operation of power system. This paper deals with the flashover prediction of polymeric insulators used in power transmission line applications using the novel condition monitoring technique developed by PD signal time-frequency map and neural network technique. Laboratory experiments on polymeric insulators were carried out as per IEC 60507 under AC voltage, at different humidity and contamination levels using NaCl as a contaminant. Partial discharge signals were acquired using advanced ultra wide band detection system. Salient features from the Time-Frequency map and PRPD pattern at different pollution levels were extracted. The flashover prediction of polymeric insulators was automated using artificial neural network (ANN) with back propagation algorithm (BPA). From the results, it can be speculated that PD signal feature extraction along with back propagation classification is a well suited technique to predict flashover of polymeric insulators.

  • Visibility has been used for Visual Impact Assessment and Buildingheight Control. The purpose of this study is to elaborate visibility analysis technique in GIS, and to design a visual information system baed on this technique for diverse application. The results of this study are as follows : 1) By classifying visibility analysis techniques into two groups, Each one's merits and demerits were investigated. Practically GIS visibility analysis by DTM model using contour map and investigating it by means of site-observation can be the most effective method. 2) A visibility analysis techniquwe for V.I.A. and B.H.C. was presented by studying GIS visibility analysis by means of DTM model using contour map. There were 5 problems. 3) Adequate analysis techniques were presented according to the landscape factor-road, ship-route, port, mountain, etc. 4) Viewing distance from road and ship-route in visual corridor, landma가 visibility and distance, the angle of incidence and invisible region's depth are helpful for land scape management or land use planning.

Analysis of soil erosion hazard zone using GIS

  • This paper is aimed at analyzing the soil erosion hazard zone in farm land. RUSLE was used for an analysis of soil erosion amount, and for the spatial data of basin, soil erosion amount was calculated by extracting the respect topography space related factors of RUSLE using DEM, Landuse, Soil map as base map. As a result of analysis on the calculated soil erosion amount according to land use type, it was analyzed that the most soil erosion occurred in orchard area, i.e., 40.08ton/ha/yr at average. It was classified into 5 classes depending on the calculated soil erosion amount. of which Class V was decided as soil erosion hazard zone, and for this area, 72.5ha or so, $2.4\%$ of the entire farm land was assessed as erosion hazard zone.

ROTATIONAL HYPERSURFACES CONSTRUCTED BY DOUBLE ROTATION IN FIVE DIMENSIONAL EUCLIDEAN SPACE 𝔼5

  • We introduce the rotational hypersurface x = x(u, v, s, t) constructed by double rotation in five dimensional Euclidean space 𝔼5. We reveal the first and the second fundamental form matrices, Gauss map, shape operator matrix of x. Additionally, defining the i-th curvatures of any hypersurface via Cayley-Hamilton theorem, we compute the curvatures of the rotational hypersurface x. We give some relations of the mean and Gauss-Kronecker curvatures of x. In addition, we reveal Δx=𝓐x, where 𝓐 is the 5 × 5 matrix in 𝔼5.

GIS 기반의 지반 정보 시스템 구축을 통한 경주 지역 부지고유 지진 응답의 지역적 평가 (Regional Estimation of Site-specific Seismic Responses at Gyeongju by Building GIS-based Geotechnical Information System)

  • 부지고유 지진 응답과 그에 따른 지진 재해는 지하 지질 및 지반 동적 특성에 따라 주로 영향을 받는다. 본 연구에서는 지진 응답의 신뢰성 높은 평가를 목적으로, 연구 영역을 포괄하는 확장 영역과 지표면의 지반-지식 자료 획득을 위한 추가 부지 방문 조사라는 새로운 개념을 도입하여 GIS 토대의 지반 정보 시스템(GTIS)을 개발하였다. 역사 지진 피해 기록이 많아 향후 지진 발생 가능성 높은 경주 지역에 대해 GIS 기반 GTIS를 구축하였다. 연구 지역인 경주를 대상으로 지반 특성 및 동적 물성을 대표하는 전단파속도($V_S$)를 평가하기 위한 종합적 지반 조사와 기존 지반 자료 수집을 실시하고 부지 방문 조사를 추가적으로 수행하였다. 경주 지역에 대한 GTIS 내에서 지구통계학적 크리깅 기법을 이용하여 지반 조사 자료로부터 연구 영역 전체의 공간 분포 지층과 $V_S$를 신뢰성 높게 예측하였다. GTIS 내에서 예측된 공간 지층 및 $V_S$를 토대로, 부지 효과에 따른 부지고유 지진 응답의 평가 지표인 부지 주기($T_G$)에 관한 지진 구역 지도를 경주 연구 지역에 대해 작성하였다. 경주의 공간 $T_G$ 분포 지도로부터 2 층에서 5 층 건물의 지진 취약도를 확인하였다. 본 연구에서는 GIS 기반 GTIS 내에서 $T_G$를 토대로 수행된 지진 구역화를 지진 재해 평가 및 저감을 위한 효율적 지역 대책 방안으로 제시하였다.

An Efficient Association Control Method for Vehicular Networks with Mobile Hotspots

  • The increasing demand from passengers in vehicles to improve safety, traffic efficiency, and comfort has lead to the growing interest of Wi-Fi based vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications. Although the V2I system provides fast and cost-effective Internet connectivity to vehicles via roadside Wi-Fi access points (APs), it suffers from frequent handoffs due to the high mobility of vehicles and the limited coverage of Wi-Fi APs. Recently, the Mobile AP (MAP) platform has emerged as a promising solution that overcomes the problem in the V2I systems. The main advantage is that MAPs may yield longer service duration to the nearby vehicles that have similar mobility patterns, yet they provide smaller link capacities than the roadside APs. In this paper, we present a new association control technique that harnesses available connection duration as well as achievable link bandwidth in high-speed vehicular network environments. We also analyze the tradeoff between two association metrics, namely, available connection duration and achievable link bandwidth. Extensive simulation studies based on real traces demonstrate that our scheme significantly outperforms the previous methods.
