  • User-led IS development contributes to the response of actual user needs, the alternative solution for backlog, and including the enhanced communication and the reduced role conflict between users and DP department. However, there are too little research and practical concern about the user-led IS development. This case study on the Korea Real Estate Investment Trust addresses to the development background, IS development process, and the qualitative and quantitative benefit of user-led IS development. We believe that the case study contributes to the understanding for the benefit of user-led IS development approach.

  • In general, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners consider innovation by producers as a primary mode in a market economy. However, the recent research has shown that some of the most important, novel products and processes have been developed by users-both user firms and individual end-users. According to von Hippel [1988], he found that they were the developers who made about 80 percent of the most important scientific instrument innovations as well as the major innovations in semiconductor processing. In this research, we conducted grounded research on user-led innovation at the corporate-level. Also, we analyzed the train development project (SR000) of Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation (SMRT). We focused on identifying the success factors of user-led innovation, and development process.

Digital-home-automation system lets indoor-living more free, safe and clear so that it really has come true our life style that considers our mind and healthy to be important. Moreover, LED light source that combines the semiconductor with the digital technology has been tried as a current indoor illumination. Also the introduction of the light which has a high technology, like LED light, has been required in living space. It shows that it is very important to have an illuminated- plan which is accepted as well-developed technology. This study deals with the investigation into the user satisfaction of the existing residential area illumination and the investigation into the user satisfaction of the LED illumination being supplied for commercial area now. In the result, the fact is investigated that the user wants the introduction of the digital technology In the illumination because of a backward the residental area illumination in the circumstances being digital gradually. The inconvenience of the illumination used now should be minimized and the development of the LED illumination is a way satisfying the desire. The intended illumination project of the residential area should be accomplished according to the lifestyle of a changing residence.

  • A significant body of information systems research is concerned with user participation as a means to improve user satisfaction within systems development. In spite of the many studies in this area, findings are not consistent or cumulative. One of the reasons for this is not to be considered the type of systems. Most research are focusing on traditional system development under the mainframe environment instead of under end-user based environment like web-based information system or ERP. End-user based environment requires user's strong initiatives in the system development life cycle. It means the user\`s simple participation is not enough and user-led-development is more appropriate for the system success. This paper can call this new concept is end-user joint work which means user has to participate in the system development as a co-developer. This paper investigates how the end-user joint work contributes end-user satisfaction and two variables in particular-job complexity and technical competence-moderate the outcomes of end-user joint work Analysis of 112 independent systems development projects indicated that end-user joint work has a direct relationship with end-user satisfaction. In addition, the two variables were found to moderate key roles on this relationship. That is, the strength of this relationship depended on the level of these factors.

  • Fashion industry is high value added indust교, whose price is decided by design value so it requires creativity and uniqueness for competition. The purpose of this study is to grasp how the design characteristic of LED that can express new creativity and uniqueness is applied to fashion design and find out the expression characteristic of LED used in fashion design. The study subjects, the design to which LED is applied, were extracted from fashion show and internet search. As a study result, the expression characteristics of LED used for fashion design are as follows. First, for function, tool function that can provide convenience for life and expression function that can provide user with emotional and psychological satisfaction and communication were allowed. Second, for aesthetic changes, many-sided, multiple colors and pattern displays of LED changed design meaning visually and caused aesthetic emotion for observer. Third, for interaction, physical factor of LED, user, dress and environmental factor interacted each other, enabling both-sided communication. Fourth, for amusement, multiple lights of LED activated visual and tactile sense, expressing usefulness and joyfulness on the basis of various display possibilities and changes. The study result will be helpful for developing more unique, creative design according to the change of age and development of science.

  • The role of information systems(IS) is far more important in business operations today. Managers recognize information as a major resource of the organization, and non-expert end users positively participate in information system development processes. This phenomenon is considered user-led information system development(ULD), where users define the information requirements, oversee system testing, manage system development, and lead the overall project. Based on a socio-technical approach, this study examines the impact of ULD on IS success. This paper also investigates the moderating effects of various contextual factors on the relationships between ULD and the success. The questionnaire was developed and the data was collected from the end users who participated in implementing ERP systems. The results showed that ULD positively affects the success. For the moderating variables, IT complexity was found to have a strong effect on the relationship between ULD and the success while business complexity and top management support have partial effects. Surprisingly, resource adequacy was not found to have the effect. This study provides academia and practitioners with a number of implications and guidelines regarding why and when to introduce ULD in their IS development initiatives.

  • In this paper, development and tests of a real-time eye-tracker system are discussed. The tracker system tracks a user's gaze point through movement of eyes by means of vision-based pupil detection. The vision-based method has an advantage of detecting the exact positions of user's eyes. An infrared camera and a LED are used to acquire a user's pupil image and to extract pupil region, which was hard to extract with software only, from the obtained image, respectively. We develop a pupil-tracking algorithm with Kalman filter and grab the pupil images by using DSP(Digital Signal Processing) system for real-time image processing technique. The real-time eye-tracker system tracks the movements of user's pupils to project their gaze point onto a background image.

  • In spite of user's participation affecting the success of the MIS project, many empirical studies, however have led to inconsistent results. This research was conducted to find the factors affecting user's participation, and the relationships between user's participation and MIS performance. To identify these problems, 43 systems operated with MIS among industries were surveyed based upon questionnaires and the personal interviews. The major findings of this study are as follows: First, the main factors affecting the user's participation out to be the MIS manager's attitude, the user manager's expectation, the MIS education and the character of user's task among 28 factors and these factors are different from stage to stage in MIS development. Second, each MIS development stage shows the different relationship between user's participation and MIS performance.

  • In this paper, a software development for design of the small photovoltaic system which is used to LED lighting is presented. For optimal design of photovoltaic systems, the operating power consumption of the LED load is considered to estimate the capacity of the solar module and battery. In order to give system design engineers a high ease of use, the software tool provides a graphical user interface and monitoring function to check operation of the system prior to installation.
