  • This study measured whether web-based library user education represent web-based instruction theories in education. 9 criteria used were course-related instruction, collaborative learning, evaluation of tutorials, education of information retrieval, contents tables, multimedia interaction between users and librarians, navigational aids, variation of menus. The result showed that both contents and design of web sites were important for good web-based library user education.

  • Due to COVID-19, user instruction programs could not be conducted face-to-face, and the sessions have been moved online. The present study attempted to investigate how online user instruction influences the information literacy ability of college students. The study randomly selected college students (N=50) who completed online user instruction sessions and college college students (N=50) who did not complete them among freshment who went to to college in 2020 to measure their information literacy abilities. For this study, a tool for measuring information literacy abilities was developed by referring to several previous studies. The measurement results were analyzed by the independent samples t-test, and significant differences were found between students who completed online user instruction sessions and those who did not. The findings of the study have confirmed that it is effective in enhancing library users' information literacy abilities to provide user instruction online under the COVID-19 situation, and even in post-COVID 19 times, which helps them appropriately utilize the characteristics of digital libraries. The information literacy measurement tool used in the present study was developed to evaluate online information literacy, and thus contributed to the extension of the literature of digital information literacy and user instruction. The present study provided practical implications for how academic libraries will promote information services to cope with environmental changes in which contact-free (untact) services are obliged.

  • This article reviews the research products on user instruction of Korean university libraries. The focus is on identifying the trend, main features, and limitations of the relevant literature, with emphasis on both contents and methodology. To the end, 127 journal articles and theses are collected and analyzed, which have been produced since the mid-1970s. As a result, it is recognized the advanced research are not useful enough to be a knowledge base of Korean reference librarians, who have endeavored to improve the qualities of their user instruction programs. Above all, the advanced research turned out to be too much dependent on American theories and practices, instead of focusing on both indigenous phenomena and substantial problems which have been inherent in Korean university libraries.

  • The purposes of this article are to explore the current situation and problems of user education in Korean libraries, and to seek some feasible solutions to establish user education as a library service. To the end, the main focus of discussion is on identifying both current situation and special features in user education of Korean libraries, as compared to those of the U.S. libraries. Also followed is a comparative discussion on the formal education systems to educate instruction librarians and the activities of professional associations to train instruction librarians between Korea and the U.S. The final suggestion is given regarding the obligations that Korean LIS scholars, professional library associations, and individual librarians should fulfill to establish user education as a healthy library service, which is suitable for Korean library situations.

  • The purpose of this article is to discuss about both historical progress and current situation of user instruction in Korean academic libraries. Emphasis was on identifying and analyzing the special features and limitations of user instruction from the viewpoints of library users as well as those of librarians. To the end, data were collected from three methods: the first tool was such major statistical sources as 'KERIS university library statistics system' and 'Research Reports' by the Korean Private University Library Association. The second was from the results of surveys and interviews with librarians from 20 university libraries. And the third was from the results of surveys with library users in two sample university libraries.

  • This paper suggests a multimedia educational system which has the ability to extract intelligent instruction on the distributed environment. The proposed system is designed for supporting individual instruction and real time user interaction. As the system based on CORBA, we put group managing module on it for multi user environment, so it has ability for distributed computing facilities. Using MHEG standard, we can provide multimedia courseware and real time user interaction. To diagnose students' responses and generate evaluations, we use several linguistic variables of fuzzy theory. There are two major advantages for using this system. This system can provide dynamic generation of problems and the ability to provide a dynamic instruction strategy. And it can increase reusability of courseware material for using standard of multimedia representation and communication. We use CORBA and MHEG to overcome the disadvantage of the Web, passive protocol and poor interactivity, HTTP.

  • This paper deals with the selection of minimal test instruction set for microprocessor data processing test. This test method is based on a function description of the instructions which are obtained from the data given by the user's manual. Selecting procedure is done in 3 steps: 1) a test execution graphs are represented on the instructions which are grouped functionally, 2) the essential graphs, the eliminable graphs, the eliminable graphs, and the eligible graphs are built, 3) optimal test instruction set from the essential graphs and the eligible graphs is defined. In the case of INTEL 8048, 50 test instructions can be selected optimally from 8048 instruction repertories (96 instructions)

  • Instructional contents are used to demonstrate a technical process to teach and walkthrough certain procedures to carry out a task. This type of informational content is widely used for teaching and lectures in form of tutorial videos and training videos. Since there are questions and uncertainties for what could be the killer application for the novel wearables, we propose a self-instruction training application on a smart glass to utilize already-available instruction videos as well as public open data in creative ways. We design and implement a prototype application to help users train by wearing smart glasses specifically designed for two concrete and hand-constrained use cases where the user's hands need to be free to operate. To increase the efficiency and feasibility of the self-instruction training, we contribute to the development of a wearable killer application by integrating a voice-based user interface using speech recognizer, public open data APIs, and timestamp-based procedural content navigation structure into our proof-of-concept application.

  • Appropriate distribution and utilization of learning time in class are regarded as essential and basic conditions for successful education. Nonetheless, among studies about UCR(User Created Robot) based instruction so far is difficult to find the research related to the class. For these reasons, we attempt to analyze the ALT(Actual Learning Time) and unuse of learning time in UCR based instruction. For these purpose, we observed three students who were with third and fourth grade integrated class of elementary school and interviewed the teachers at pre-post class. The result of this study showed the following results: (1) UCR based instruction present lower ALT than traditional classes. (2) Most of the unnecessary time used in their classes tend to be used in preparing and arranging the robot module, a little is used unnecessarily because of the students' unrelated behaviors for their learning, decentralized behaviors and other external influences.
