Surveillance has become one of promising application areas of wireless sensor networks which allow for pervasive monitoring of concerned environmental phenomena by facilitating context awareness through sensor fusion. Existing systems that depend on a postmortem context analysis of sensor data on a centralized server expose several shortcomings, including a single point of failure, wasteful energy consumption due to unnecessary data transfer as well as deficiency of scalability. As an opposite direction, this paper proposes an energy-efficient distributed context-aware surveillance in which sensor nodes in the wireless sensor network collaborate with neighbors in a distributed manner to analyze and aware surrounding context. We design and implement multi-modal sensor stations for use as sensor nodes in our wireless sensor network implementing our distributed context awareness. This paper presents an initial experimental performance result of our proposed system. Results show that multi-modal sensor performance of our sensor station, a key enabling factor for distributed context awareness, is comparable to each independent sensor setting. They also show that its initial performance of context-awareness is satisfactory for a set of introductory surveillance scenarios in the current interim stage of our ongoing research.
Objectives: This study aimed (1) to share findings from the U.S. on customer use of social media for information seeking and sharing about food recall risks, and (2) to discuss the implications of the findings for the context of food safety and risk communication in Korea. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 1,026 social media users aged 18 years or older in the U.S., recruited from the Knowledge Network's nationally representative panel. Results: About 26 percent of respondents used social media either to seek or share food recall information in the past year, with social networking sites being the most popular tool. With respect to social media use for information seeking, being married, perceived risk of getting foodborne diseases, and trust in Internet were significant, positive predictors; being Whites and trust in health professionals were negative predictors. Social media use for information sharing was positively associated with education, being married, foodborne disease history, and perceived risk of foodborne diseases; Whites, income, and trust in health professionals were negative predictors. Conclusions: The study gives theoretical, methodological, and practical implications for the context of food safety and risks in Korea.

This paper discusses several topics associated with the densification caused by supertall buildings and their impact on city systems. The paper covers five key areas where a supertall tower creates a concentration of needs and effects. First, the paper comments on population shifts towards the city and how they affect carbon footprint, utilities infrastructure and transport. The effect of single- and mixed-use towers is discussed in the context of population density. The second section brings the issues of transit, accessibility and master planning into focus. The use and criticality of public transport, cycling and walking is described. Servicing and deliveries using freight consolidation and shared systems is also discussed along with their contribution to the culture of sustainable travel. In the third section the paper reflects on supertall buildings' below-ground utilities and drainage provision, particularly the challenges faced in established city infrastructures. The utilities issues associated with supertall concentration (in land-use terms) compared to equivalent low-rise distribution is also commented on in the context of surface water runoff. In the fourth section, the topic of supertall sustainability is discussed and how city systems need to respond to create desirable and affordable space for occupiers. The changing need for vertical communities, 'stacked neighbourhoods' and the notion of a micro-city is described. Finally, the paper considers the energy consumption and resilience of supertall buildings in the context of basic geometry, façade design, climate and mixed-use benefits as they impact city systems.
In this research, we propose a dynamic decision making using social context based on ontology. Dynamic adaptation is adopted for the high qualified decision making, which is defined as creation of proper information using contexts depending on decision maker's state of affairs in ubiquitous computing environment. Thereby, the context for the dynamic adaptation is classified as a static, dynamic and social context. Static context contains personal explicit information like demographic data. Dynamic context like weather or traffic information is provided by external information service provider. Finally, social context implies much more implicit knowledge such as social relationship than the other two-type context, but it is not easy to extract any implied tacit knowledge as well as generalized rules from the information. So, it was not easy for the social context to apply into dynamic adaptation. In this light, we tried the social context into the dynamic adaptation to generate context-appropriate personalized information. It is necessary to build modeling methodology to adopt dynamic adaptation using the context. The proposed context modeling used ontology and cases which are best to represent tacit and unstructured knowledge such as social context. Case-based reasoning and constraint satisfaction problem is applied into the dynamic decision making system for the dynamic adaption. Case-based reasoning is used case to represent the context including social, dynamic and static and to extract personalized knowledge from the personalized case-base. Constraint satisfaction problem is used when the selected case through the case-based reasoning needs dynamic adaptation, since it is usual to adapt the selected case because context can be changed timely according to environment status. The case-base reasoning adopts problem context for effective representation of static, dynamic and social context, which use a case structure with index and solution and problem ontology of decision maker. The case is stored in case-base as a repository of a decision maker's personal experience and knowledge. The constraint satisfaction problem use solution ontology which is extracted from collective intelligence which is generalized from solutions of decision makers. The solution ontology is retrieved to find proper solution depending on the decision maker's context when it is necessary. At the same time, dynamic adaptation is applied to adapt the selected case using solution ontology. The decision making process is comprised of following steps. First, whenever the system aware new context, the system converses the context into problem context ontology with case structure. Any context is defined by a case with a formal knowledge representation structure. Thereby, social context as implicit knowledge is also represented a formal form like a case. In addition, for the context modeling, ontology is also adopted. Second, we select a proper case as a decision making solution from decision maker's personal case-base. We convince that the selected case should be the best case depending on context related to decision maker's current status as well as decision maker's requirements. However, it is possible to change the environment and context around the decision maker and it is necessary to adapt the selected case. Third, if the selected case is not available or the decision maker doesn't satisfy according to the newly arrived context, then constraint satisfaction problem and solution ontology is applied to derive new solution for the decision maker. The constraint satisfaction problem uses to the previously selected case to adopt and solution ontology. The verification of the proposed methodology is processed by searching a meeting place according to the decision maker's requirements and context, the extracted solution shows the satisfaction depending on meeting purpose.

The growth in the use of ubiquitous computing based on mobile services as an enabler to conduct business more effectively has been phenomenal. Technology acceptance model (TAM) has been applied in different contexts to examine a wide range of information technologies (IT). As more and more companies are finding ways to utilize ubiquitous computing based on mobile services, an important issue is to understand what factors will impact the decisions of consumers in adopting the services. Based on TAM with three additional groups of external factors, i.e., service-related factors (ubiquitous access, context awareness) and technology-related factors (perceived security risk, network connectivity) that are theoretically justified as having influence on both perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use which are additionally considered, a research model for the investigated technology acceptance was developed and empirically examined, using responses from more than intended users of ubiquitous computing based on mobile services. The specific purposes of this study are as follows. Firstly, this study is to identify service beliefs considering unique characteristics for ubiquitous services such as perceived ubiquitous access and perceived context awareness. Secondly, this study is to investigate network characteristics beliefs such as perceived security and perceived connectivity. Thirdly, this paper investigates the relationship among variables such as ubiquitous characteristics, network characteristics, behavioral beliefs, and intention to use ubiquitous web services. This study uses a structural equation model to test the research model. The major results of this study are as follows. Firstly, ubiquitous access has a influence on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Context awareness has an influence on perceived usefulness. Secondly, User familiarity has an influence on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, and intention to use. User innovativeness has an influence on perceived ease of use. Thirdly, perceived security risk has an influence on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Network connectivity has an influence on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Fourth, there exist differential effects among factors in structural model among information, transaction, and entertainment services.
User experience in web site is beyond Usability, and should be understood in a context. However, the concrete contextual factors of web site experience is not systematically established enough. Therefore, the objective of this research is to establish a framework of mapping experiential context factors with analyzing real web site use cases, and to propose how it is can be applied in the process of web site contents planning. First of all, theoretical framework for the web experience and contextual factors was prepared by secondary research. Second, user experience on music casting sites was collected through web diary method, self-video recording method, and group interview. Then, collected experience was re-constructed with scenarios. Scenarios are analyzed into contextual factors and these factors are categorized, given hierarchies and located into context map. Third, the possibility of applying the context map of web site experience was discussed. The systematical and concrete sample of context map based on practical use cases can be applied in the innovative and cross-genre web contents planning process.
Recently, the component technology has played a main role in software reuse. It has changed the code-based reuse into the binary code-based reuse, because components can be easily combined into the developing software only through component interfaces. Since components and component users have increased rapidly, it is necessary that the users of components search for the most proper components for HTML among the enormous number of components on the Internet. It is desirable to use web-document-typed specifications for component specifications on the Internet. This paper proposes to use XML component specifications instead of HTML specifications, because it is impossible to represent the semantics of contexts using HTML. We also propose the XML context-search method based on XML component specifications. Component users use the contexts for the component properties and the terms for the values of component properties in their queries for searching components. The index structure for the context-based search method is the inverted file indexing structure of term-context-component specification. Not only an XML context-based search method but also a variety of search methods based on context-based search, such as keyword, search, faceted search, and browsing search method, are provided for the convenience of users. We use the 3-layer architecture, with an interface layer, a query expansion layer, and an XML search engine layer, of the search engine for the efficient index scheme. In this paper, an XML DTD(Document Type Definition) for component specification is defined and the experimental results of comparing search performance of XML with HTML are discussed.
Web services are independent on a platform and are suitable in the Ubiquitous environment which an interaction for each device. Ubiquitous web services can use various applied service in any network neighborhood or terminal. Main characteristic of Ubiquitous is context-awareness. Therefore, Ubiquitous web services must include context-aware control process and protect user privacy because context-aware environment collects privacy data. But current web services standard is not specially designed in respect of context-communication. Therefore, the framework which can add flexibility in transmission of context is required. Our Framework can give extension for context and can communicate flexibly Context information for every session. Therefore, Our Framework can solve overhead problem of context in SOAP message and protect user's privacy according to user preference.

What is important in ubiquitous computing is collecting users' context information from various sensors and providing services suitable for use's current situation. Particularly in mobile environment, each area has different context awareness structure and this makes it difficult to share information with other areas. As a result, context resources for recognizing users' context ate insufficient. Moreover, because mobile devices have a limited processing capacity, there are difficulties in the real time analysis of users' context. This paper proposed a context awareness and integration model for analyzing users' context actively and providing adaptive services using mobile devices. The proposed model distinguishes users' context between dynamic and static structure to analyze the context, and obtains context resources by sharing context information of users within an area.

The context-aware environment focuses on recognizing the context and physical entities. For this reason, there has been an increasement in research of context-aware computing environment. Ontology-based context models are widely used in ubiquitous environment because of context sharing and reusing. In this paper, we propose a proactive retrieval method using ontology in context-aware environment. The method use a concept level of hierarchical concept tree in ontology for more efficient retrieval. This paper describes the proactive retrieval method and ontology model. Several experiments are performed and the results verify that the proposed method's efficiency is better than other existing methods.
