The purpose of this research is to evaluate the biotope value in a metropolitan area after constructing the biotope evaluation model to develop biotope networking in the light of ecological landscape planning. In addition this study is to provide a basic frame of constructing the biotope networking system in the future with the evaluation results. The scope of this research is limited to high density residential area including some part of the forest adjacent to urban boundary. The results of the classified biotope in the research area have been turned out to be 24 patterns. According to the result of estimated nature value having the forth grade, three were forests combined with urban natural parks, schools near forests, and grasslands. There is a little place having first grade. We an deduce this fact that we have surveyed biotopes, having the minimum nature value and wider than children's park. As for the result of evaluated the structure, there were the forests of Seong-Dong, Meaho-Dong, and Kumho river, which is the forth grade. As for the evaluation of connection-function, the followings area were evaluated as the third grade-linear biotopes having highly valued and sustainable similarity - Seoul-Pusan Railroad, Dong-Daegu St., Kumho river, river basins. Bum대 park and a botanic park near Suesung lake, As for the evaluated the buffer-function, higly valued production biotopes, existing at a transition belt between he residential density areas, are Sawol-Dong, Meaho-Dong and Kumho river. When each of the indexes was evaluated, the core of the biotop contained most of natural biotopes. Large artificial biotopes were evaluated as an important biotopes, while small artificial biotopes were classified as a dot biotope. The future research on the concrete biotope networking construction, based upon performed evaluation in this research, should be conducted.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the hydrologic cycle environment of Gyeongui Line Forest Park, a linear city park, in order to improve hydrologic cycle systems in urban areas. The method of the study is the Biotope Area Ratio and the Permeable ratio survey. The study subject is the Gyeongui Line Forest Park, created in 2016 as a linear park in Seoul. The results showed that the Biotope Area Ratio improved by 31.2% (31,927㎡) from 35.7% (36,480㎡) in 2000 to 66.9% (68,407㎡) in 2019 on a site area of 102,117㎡. Next, the Permeable ratio improved by 43.8% from 29.0% to 72.8%, and the impermeable ratio decreased by 43.8% from 71.0% to 27.2%. The Biotope Area Ratio exceeded the target ratio of 60% by 6.9%, set by the Ministry of Environment. The ratio of green space exceeded the target ratio of 60%, by 4.0%. And so they contributed to the improvement of the hydrologic cycle by the creation of the Gyeongui Line Forest Park. Urban parks need to exceed the Biotope Area Ratio and the green area ratio of the legal standards, especially when creating large parks of over 100,000 square meters, in the era of climate change. It is necessary to continuously plant trees in the space where trees can be planted, and to contribute to the improvement of the hydrologic cycle system and urban heat island effect by conducting three-dimensional.

We investigated the vegetation structure in Cultural Heritage Site of Odaesan National Park using 52 quadrats for each type of land use to figure out some characteristics of plant biotope. As we classified vegetation communities, they are six groups of communities. distinguished species in two of them are Taraxacum officinal, Erigeron annuus and Poa pratensis which are common in urban areas. Distinguished species in one of them are Potentilla fragarioides var. major which is common in outskirt of forest. And Distinguished species in another 3 communities are Sasa borealis and Quercus mongolica which are common in forest. Using TWINSPAN and DCA, we are able to classify the six communities into 3 types biotope (temple-biotope, slope-biotope, forest-biotope) in Cultural Heritage Site. The dominant species of urban-biotope are Poa pratensis, Artemisia prinseps and that of slope-biotope is Tripterygium regelii. Also the dominant species of forest-biotope are Quercus mongolica, Abies holophylla and Ulmus davidiana var. japonica. We could see more species in slope-biotope than another biotope types. Moreover, in urban-biotope types, we could find many of naturalized plant species.

Targeting a rooftop biotope created in urban area, this study aims at verifying a creation technique reflecting an urban biosphere reserve concept as well as its function as the habitats of various wild animals. To this end, a set of processes of a biosphere reserve-based basic conception and master plan, sectoral plans, construction and monitoring were applied to the rooftop of 12-story UNESCO Building in Seoul. In particular, the rooftop habitats were divided into core area, buffer zone and transition area, and habitats and facilities suitable to the characteristics of each space were planned. By aligning a plantation planning map with environmental conditions such as topography and water, creation of diverse habitats was enabled. As a result, a set of various habitats including wetlands, wild grassland, shrubs, forest trees and vegetable fields was created at the site. Species living in these habitats included 148 plant species, 62 insect species, 2 amphibian species, 3 fishery species and 3 bird species. The rooftop eco-park of UNESCO Building, which was created one year ago, is assessed as an important space for conservation of biodiversity as well as a place where a biosphere reserve concept was well applied. Meanwhile, for this rooftop biotope to be a pioneer of urban biosphere reserve-based types, a number of principles & methodologies suggested in this study need to be applied, In a perspective of landscape ecology, maintenance efforts should be linked with green areas in neighboring areas, which are the sources of species, In addition, considering that the rooftop biotope is a restored ecosystem, theories and approaches from restoration ecology should be applied. On-going monitoring on environmental changes is also required as the site is located in the urban center, Ultimately, rooftop biotopes including the case study area should contribute in promoting the socio-economic, cultural, and spiritual sustainability as well as environmental sustainability of a city.
This study is conducted to investigate number of species in various habitat size in the area of urban biotope in Seoul from October to November in 2001 and from May to June in 2002. It is established that habitat size does not significantly affect the number of species in urban biotope. Thirty-two bird species were observed in 54 sites. Thirteen species of birds used sites of up to 1㏊, 29 species from 1 to 10 ㏊, and 8 species in the sites larger than 10㏊. We find that most of species appeared in size (1-10㏊), rather than in size (<1㏊, >10㏊). The cumulative number of species for a given cumulative area was consistently higher when small sites were added first. We think that this habitat size is the actual area to promote number of species within the urban area. Also, there was significant increase of number of species at biotope with water source and multiple vegetation structure. Therefore, if water resources and multiple vegetation structure is maintained, even small area can be helpful to the bird species promotion.
This study aims to classify the biotope types and evaluate its functions for acquiring the basic information which can support the landscape ecological management of the urban forest in the case of the three parks in Daegu metropolitan city and then to analyze vegetation landscape patterns. The biotope classification was mostly divided into 5 to 6 biotope type groups in the high units and 15 to 20 biotope types belong to them and then could know that the more big the park size, the more diverse and large the biotope types and its average area. The biotope grade over the three parks was dominating low rank grade (1 to 3 grade) 72.7% that forest organism is inadequate as live, and high grade (7 to 9 grade) did not appear entirely. Most in Biotope function estimation were appeared less than the middle rank grade and biotope area is bigger, those grade rises and temperature could know that is fallen. Vegetation landscape patterns was very simple because only two kinds of Robinia pseudo-acacia and Quercus acutissima is appeared as the dominated landscape elements in all of the three parks. And also because average area of those elements is generally 1ha or so, there was much problems in consecutiveness of functional role as forest ecosystem component. Conclusively, Ecological landscape management need to improve Biotope diversity and functionality, and it secures ecological minimal area and space linkage.

This study was aimed to propose the plan of creating a biotope reflecting an ecological education as well as its function as the habitats of amphibian in Namsan Urban Natural Park in Seoul. There were Cheonil mineral spring area which was located on the southern side of Namsan, wetlands which was already created on the east valley(800$m^2$) and a buffer area of the circumference(1,100$m^2$) as the biotope sites. Major fields of this study include a survey of the staus, a basic plan, a master plan; a survey of this site was focused on topography, water system, existing vegetation, wildbird, amphibian, trail; a detailed plan was focused on flow plan, planting plan, facility plan. Existing vegetation was classified into 8 types; Pinus densiflora forest, Pinus densiflora planted area, Prunus sargentii-Quercus spp. forest, Pinus rigida forest, Robinia pseudoacacia forest, artificial green space, wetlands, south beltway. There were Pinus densiflora planted area and Prunus sargentii-Quercus spp. forest as major vegetations of this site. 14 species and 33 individuals of wildbirds appeared, Rana temporaria ornativentris and Hynobius leechi were investigated in the wetlands. In particular, habitats of amphibian were divided eco-zone, buffer-zone and restore-zone, and habitats and facilities which would be suitable for the characteristics of each space were planned. As a result, environment elements of good habitats including spawn wetlands of amphibian, harbor of amphibian, water plant of wetland, wild shrubs forest, ecological landscape forest, wetland observation trail, fence of wetland protection and ramp by pebble and log were created at the site. The amphibian biotope of Namsan is rated high as an important space for conserving biodiversity. Accordingly, continuous monitoring of this biotope as a urban habitat is required as the environment changes.

The purpose of this study is to derive the actually applicable directions and measures for conservation and restoration according to biotope types. Recently biotope project-installing eco-river, restoring damaged area, protecting habitate for flora and fauna- is processed according to being interested in making and restoring the biotope. But it is lack of study to estimate and systematize which biotope preserve and restore primary. For this purpose, the direction and measures of conservation and restoration be applicable to actuality are drafted by a review on the preceded case studies until now at the inside and outside of the country. And then this study proposed the concept, direction and measures for the effective systematic biotope management through continual feed back such as field applications in selected case study areas and consultations. First, the applicable directions and measures for conservation and restoration according to biotope types is suggested with the 'conservation' divided into two parts; protection and maintenance, the 'restoration', and the 'enhancement' divided into two parts; improvement and creation. Second, for the effective biotope management, the biotope types are classified into urban type, agricultural types and natural types according to the naturalness and dominant landscape. However, this study suggests that the direction and measures suitable to the regional conditions should be reviewed enough and selected and also the detail measures should be supplemented with the foundation of directions and measures for biotope conservation and management proposed in this study because the biotope management should consider regional characteristics.

The purpose of this research was analysis of biotope structure focused on the evaluation for the nature experience and recreation in the case of Suseoung District in Daegu metropolitan area. The results of this study were as follows; 1) The result of biotope type classification was divided into 17 biotope type groups and 90 biotope types belonging to them. 2) In the result of the first evaluation for the nature experience and recreation, biotope types such as MA, NA, OE, PH, QB etc. possess great value. Particulary these biotope types come from forest areas and transition zone. The have not appeared in the inner of cities. 3) The biotope types such as JC, ME, OA, OE, PB, QD, QF etc. are proved to possess high value in the result of the utility evaluation. 4) There emerges 3a biotope type that has the highest value in the result of the second evaluation - such as ME, NB, NC, PD, QB etc. Most of them range widely except in the urbanized areas. Most of them were presented into the large area of site size and in the outer forest areas. But most of them were distributed in the forest areas intensively. So, it is certain that the space of nature experience connected with residential district of the urban people s scarce. Finally, the detailed plan must be made out specially continuously. It is about biotope spaces that are important for the nature experience and the recreation from the result of this research. Also, the study on the detailed index settlement of the sight green plan based on the biotope map must be continued.
URBAN ECOLOGICAL MAPS must be created by local governments by NATURAL ENVIRONMENT CONSERVATION ACT, and the maps are generally called biotope map. So far, biotope maps study was a tendency to focus on the type of vegetation, naturalness, land use, landscape ecology theories. However, biotope related studies have not reflected the concept of animal habitat, which is a component of biotope, and that is the limitation of biotope map research. This study suggest a methodology to predict potential habitats for fauna using machine learning to quantify habitat values. The potential habitats of fauna were predicted by spatial statistics using machine learning, and the results were converted into species richness. For biotope type assessments, we classified biotope values into vegetation value and habitat value and evaluated them using a matrix for value summation. The vegetation value was divided into 5 stages based on vegetation nature and land use, and the habitat value was classified into five stages by predicting the species richness predicted by machine learning. This is meaningful because our research can positively reflect the results of field surveys of fauna that were negatively reflected in the evaluation of biotope types in the past. Therefore, in the future, if the biotope map manual is revised, our methodology should be applied.
