A Colour Support System for Townscape Based on Kansei and Colour Harmony Models

  • A townscape has been a main factor in urban-development problems in Japan. In the townscape, keeping harmony with environment is a common goal. But useful and meaningful goals are expressing individuality and impression of the town in the townscape. In this paper, we propose the colony planning support system system to improve the townscape. The system finds propositional colour combinations based on three elements, town image, colour harmony, and cost. The targets of this model are mostly townscapes in residential areas that already exist, In this paper, we introduce the construction of a Kansei evaluation model to quantify the impression. First, we conducted computer-based evaluational experiments for 20 subjects using the SD method to clarify the relationship between town image and street colours. We chose 16 adjective words related to town image and prepared 100 colour picture samples for the evaluation. After the experiments, we constructed the model using a neural network for each word. We chose 62 experimental results for the training data of the neural network and 20 results for the testing data. Each colour in the data was selected to have unique hue, brightness or saturation attributes, After the construction, we tested the model for accuracy. We input the testing data into the constructed model and calculated errors between the output from the model and the experimental results. Testing of the model showed that the model worked well for more than 80% of the samples. The model demonstrated influences of colours on the town image.

  • In the aspects of the globalization and localization, it is crucial to determine 'Urban selling point', which explains how to make an image: in order to acquire city identity based on the cultural and historical understanding for the Positive city image. The Purpose of this study is to investigate the possible role of the public space as a tool of the city marketing strategy, as well as to realize the cultural city identity through the design of the public space by studying cases which promote the value of life for both of the city and the citizens. Two methodologies are utilized for this study; First, he value in realizing cultural identity is examined through the city identity related to the city marketing and theoretical review of city amenity; second, the several domestic and international cases of cultural planning in culture-accumulated public space are selected and analyzed to map out new strategies from the perspective of place strategy, cultural strategy, and marketing strategy. The results from this study are as follows; first, the culture-accumulated public space through the formation of culture has its own characterized meaning, which has the significant value for the city representative image; second, when planning the culture-accumulated public space, it is important to select not only the appropriate image strategy but the adequate type of the public space for the city planning.

Highly Dense 3D Surface Generation Using Multi-image Matching

  • This study presents an automatic matching method for generating a dense, accurate, and discontinuity-preserved digital surface model (DSM) using multiple images acquired by an aerial digital frame camera. The proposed method consists of two main procedures: area-based multi-image matching (AMIM) and stereo-pair epipolar line matching (SELM). AMIM evaluates the sum of the normalized cross correlation of corresponding image points from multiple images to determine the optimal height of an object point. A novel method is introduced for determining the search height range and incremental height, which are necessary for the vertical line locus used in the AMIM. This procedure also includes the means to select the best reference and target images for each strip so that multi-image matching can resolve the common problem over occlusion areas. The SELM extracts densely positioned distinct points along epipolar lines from the multiple images and generates a discontinuity-preserved DSM using geometric and radiometric constraints. The matched points derived by the AMIM are used as anchor points between overlapped images to find conjugate distinct points using epipolar geometry. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated for several different test areas, including urban areas.

  • At present electrical and electronic technologies is rapidly improved, and they have formed their market widely. New technologies such as traffic signal system, navigation system and unmanned vehicle are connected with transportation field. Among these advanced technologies, the Image Processing Technology has been used for the astro-navigation, medicine, military field and so forth. Recently The Image Processing Technologies are widely applied to traffic enforcement system for signal, speed limit and HOV lane. In this study we developed the advanced enforcement system for over limit(overweight)vehicles using Image Processing System.

GIS기반 PM10 미세먼지농도 실시간 서비스 (GIS-based PM10 Concentration Real-time Service)

  • In this study, by applying mobile based GIS and image analysis of particulate matter ($PM_{10}$) concentration in Seoul and Ulsan in Korea, to identify the user's location and also implemented the application to information exchange. It strengthened citizens' access to air quality information through the application and derived the expanded environment information sharing through real-time user participation. Through atmospheric concentrations image analysis, it showed a new environmental information construction possibility. It had the effect of expanding the information collecting through the local user participation on the limited information collected area which place is not yet constructed atmospheric monitoring network. Location-based particulate matter information service application provides a user location's $PM_{10}$ information from the 25 urban air monitoring network real-time database of the Ministry of Environment. Furthermore, if the user sent a picture of the atmosphere to the server, should match the image density values of the database and express on Seoul's maps through the IDW interpolation. And then a $PM_{10}$ concentration result is transmitted to user in real time.

'열린경관'과 '가려진경관'의 이미지와 선호도 비교 - 패럴랙스(Parallax) 효과 유무를 중심으로 - (The Image and Preference Comparison between 'Opened Landscape' and 'Filtered Landscape' - Focused on With and Without Parallax Effect -)

  • The purpose of this study is not only to compare between 'Opened Landscape' and 'Filtered Landscape' image and preference but also to suggests a guide line of planting design for progressive realization. For this, the image structures of photo-sketch simulation for parallax landscape have been investigated by Semantic Differential scale(S.D. scale) and the Factor analysis. The results could be summarized as follows. The results of S.D. scale values for landscape through parallax were greater than non-parallax landscape. The scenes through parallax were better preferred to direct view. Thus the results of photo-sketch simulation test support the expected hypothesis that the visual environment of complexity and variety is closely correlated with the parallax effect and monotonous or non-parallax environment, and parallax effect on close view more bigger than the distant view. Factors covering the spatial image of parallax landscape were found to be seven and Total values were 60.35 %. The most important factors determining the parallax effect were Factors I 'depth of space' and VI 'expectation of space and interest'. An outstanding view must be handled properly to be preserved or accentuated. In this sense, the parallax spatial beauty with tree could be improved through the visual aspects of plan arrangements and the progressive realization appeared to be one effective design technique for landscape planning and design.

MODIFIED DOUBLE SNAKE ALGORITHM FOR ROAD FEATURE UPDATING OF DIGITAL MAPS USING QUICKBIRD IMAGERY

  • Road networks are important geospatial databases for various GIS (Geographic Information System) applications. Road digital maps may contain geometric spatial errors due to human and scanning errors, but manually updating roads information is time consuming. In this paper, we developed a new road features updating methodology using from multispectral high-resolution satellite image and pre-existing vector map. The approach is based on initial seed point generation using line segment matching and a modified double snake algorithm. Firstly, we conducted line segment matching between the road vector data and the edges of image obtained by Canny operator. Then, the translated road data was used to initialize the seed points of the double snake model in order to refine the updating of road features. The double snake algorithm is composed of two open snake models which are evolving jointly to keep a parallel between them. In the proposed algorithm, a new energy term was added which behaved as a constraint. It forced the snake nodes not to be out of potential road pixels in multispectral image. The experiment was accomplished using a QuickBird pan-sharpened multispectral image and 1:5,000 digital road maps of Daejeon. We showed the feasibility of the approach by presenting results in this urban area.

  • Recently, surveillance system designed to collect various trsffic information are becoming new areas of development . Among these, the image detector is a ayatem which can measure the travel time and speed in realtime and this is emerging as the most effcient tool to be available in future related areas. But in measuring wide-area information in realtime, the image detector are yet full of problem in its accuracy. The aim of this ahesis is to develop an algorithms which can collect wide-area information such as travel time and travel speed in urban networks and freeways in realtime. The information on wide-area such as travel time and travel speed is important in accomplishing strategic function in traffic control. The algorithm developed from this study is based on the image tracking model which tracks a moving vehicle form image datas collected continuously, and is constructed to perform realtime measurement. To evaluate the performance of the developed algorithms, 600 ind vidual vehicles in total were used as data for the study, and this evaluation was carried out with the differenciation of day and night condition at the access roads in front of AJou University, In the statistical analysis results, the error rate was recorded as 5.69% and it has proved to be applicable on the field in both day and noght conditions.

시설물 감시용 CCTV의 초광각 렌즈 왜곡보정 (The Fish-eye Lens Distortion Correction of Facilities Monitoring CCTV)

  • 최근 도시시설물의 안전과 범죄 모니터링에 대한수요가 증가하고 있으나, 사용되는 산업장비용 CCTV의 경우 고가가 대부분이다. 본 연구에서는 초 광각 렌즈인 어안렌즈와 사진측량 알고리즘을 이용하여 단일 카메라의 시야각을 증대시켜 모니터링의 효율성을 극대화 시키고자 한다. 어안렌즈를 이용한 모니터링을 위해 우선 실험실 내에서 왜곡계수 산출 실험을 실시하였는데 이는 일정 간격의 고정된 종이 타겟을 여러 방향에서 촬영한 후, 격자점을 이용하여 왜곡 계수를 추출하였다. 또한 추출된 왜곡보정 계수를 보정 및 모니터링 프로그램에 삽입하여 실시간 보정된 영상을 획득할 수 있다. 또한 보정된 영상에 대한 검증을 위해, 타겟을 스캐닝하여 왜곡 보정된 영상과 비교한 결과 RMSE가 3.2pixel로 나타났다.

대도시 경관인지 및 이미지 특성에 관한 연구 -대구시를 중심으로- (A Study on the Characteristics of Landscape cognition and Image in Deagu City)

  • The purpose of this study is to focus on the townscape of Daegu based on the urban characteristics of the landscape cognition and images captured by citizens. The analysis was performed by the data obtained from questionnaires and interviews. This study methods were deals the cognition characteristics, landmark landscape, visual preference landscape, image and satisfaction. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The orders of cognition landscapes were estimated Apple> Weather> Texture> Mt.Palgong> Daegu Tower> Pretty Girl> Mt. Apsan> Dalsung Park> Conservative> Dongsung Road, etc. That is constructed Nonphysical elements(62.0%) and Physical elements(38.0%) 2. The orders of representative landscape(Landmark) in city were estimated Mt.Palgong> Daegu Tower> Gat Rock> Mt.Apsan> Dalsung Park, etc. As a whole middle and old people(over 30gen) preferenced as a history landscape or natural landscape, but youth people(10-20gen) preferenced as visible and interesting artifical places. 3. While the positive attitudes for the image of city were traditional(3.30), intimacy(3.58), and rest(2.90), the negative attitudes were unnewly(2.34), closing(2.37) and narrow(2.40). Also total satisfaction for that was estimated 5.51. 4. Psychological factors, related to the satisfaction of the image of city were composed of four factors, individuality character, pleasure character, amenity character, formation character. And the presumption formula of satisfaction was: Satisfaction = 5.477 + 0.752(Individuality) + 0.470(Pleasure) + 0.413(Amenity) + 0.241(Formation).
