Microclimate analysis was conducted through actual measurement according to land use status in urban, and CFD analysis was conducted to analyze and predict the microclimate characteristics of urban, and compared and analyzed with the actual measurement results. It was measured in high-rise areas and parks, and the temperature of the park area was 0.4 to 0.6℃ lower, and the relative humidity was 1.0 to 3.0% higher. The correlation coefficient was obtained by comparing the results of the computational fluid analysis with the results of the computational fluid analysis at the actual location located within the CFD analysis area for validation. The seasonal correlation coefficients are all higher than 0.8, so it is judged that they can be applied to microclimate analysis in urban area. The computational fluid analysis was divided into three areas (low-rise, low and high-rise, and high-rise) centered on the A2 point. On average, the low-rise area was 0.1 to 0.4% higher than the high-rise area. In the low and high-rise area and high-rise area, the pith of buildings are wide, so the airflow is smooth, so it is judged that the temperature is relatively low.
Condensation has mainly occurred in corridor type apartment door which is exposed to the outside air and is made of steel, which has high thermal conductivity. As a result, the total costs of repair have increased with the number of disputes with residents. In this study, therefore, we investigate materials and construction methods used in apartment door, perform a computer simulation to find out possible improvements, and then suggest the dew point to prevent the occurrence of condensation throughout simulation. The results indicate that the temperature that condensation does not occur is $15.4^{\circ}C$, and the optimum method of achieving this dew point is shown to be a door frame system including a large vertical slot to decrease the area of thermal conduction between the outer and inner portions of the door frame. Mock-up tests show that the surface temperature of the door frame was higher than the dew point, and the system can withstand severe cold conditions of $-20^{\circ}C$. In application test, the surface temperature of door frame with vertical slots is $5.9^{\circ}C$in average, which is higher than the existing door frame. Furthermore, in the temperature distribution of the surrounding door measured with infrared ray camera, the existing door shows the high temperature distribution indicating lack of insulation, but the improved door shows the low temperature distribution indicating higher insulation.
Land surface temperature (LST) is an important factor in human health, thermal environment, heat balance, global change studies, and as control for climate change. The objective of this study was to assess the influence of Urban Heat Island (UHI) Effects on the LST and NDVI in Cheongju, Korea. The aim was to evaluate the effect of urban thermal environment for LST comparison of satellite-derived and in situ measured temperature. In this study, LANDSAT TM and KOMPSAT scene were used. The results indicated that the minimum LST is observed over dense forest as about $21{\sim}25^{\circ}C$ and maximum LST is observed over industrial area of about $28{\sim}32^{\circ}C$. The estimated LST showed that industrial area, bare soils and built-up areas exhibit higher surface temperatures, while forest, water bodies, agricultural croplands, and dense vegetations have lower surface temperatures during the summer daytime. Result corroborates the fact that LST over land use/land cover (LULC) types are greatly influenced by the amount of vegetation and water bodies present. The LST of industrial area and urban center is higher than that of suburban area, so it is clearly proved that there are obvious UHIE in Cheongju.

Urban expansion, particularly converting sub-urban areas to residential and commercial land use in metropolitan areas, has been considered as a significant signal of regional economic development. However, this results in urban climate change. One of the key impacts of rapid urbanization on the environment is the effect of UHI (Urban Heat Island). Understanding the effects of urban land cover change on UHI is crucial for improving the ecology and sustainability of cities. This research reports an application of remote sensing data, GIS (Geographic Information Systems) for assessing effects of urban land cover change on the LST (Land Surface Temperature) and heat budget components in Ho Chi Minh City, where is one of the fastest urbanizing region of Vietnam. The change of urban land cover component and LST in the city was derived by using multi-temporal Landsat data for the period of 1998 - 2020. The analysis showed that, from 1998 to 2020 the city had been drastically urbanized into multiple directions, with the urban areas increasing from approximately 125.281 km2 in 1998 to 162.6 km2 in 2007, and 267.2 km2 in 2020, respectively. The results of retrieved LST revealed the radiant temperature for 1998 ranging from 20.2℃ to 31.2℃, while that for 2020 remarkably higher ranging from 22.1℃ to 42.3℃. The results also revealed that given the same percentage of urban land cover components, vegetation area is more effective to reduce the value of LST, meanwhile the impervious surface is the most effective factor to increase the value of the LST.

An observational study of urban heat island was carried out using field data obatined during 6 days in May and August 1992 in Chunchon(population size 180.000). Air temperature was measured at 64 points along two sampling ruoutes by themisters attached to cars. Both routes cover urban and rural area and across the cneter of urban area. Continuous observation of air sonde was perfomed to clarify heights of nocturnal boundary layer(NBL) at the center of urban area. Surface meteorological observations were performed at both urban and rural sites. This study showed that heat island phenomena was obviously observed at the urbanized area during the night time with low wind speed. The average NBL heights exteded to about 10 meters, but varied with meteorological conditions. After sunset, the air temperature decreased with time at both sites and cooling rate at the urban site was greater than the rural site. The maximum heat island intensity was 7.5$^{\circ}$C at 21 LST, May 4. Usingthe two meteorological data sets obtained from urban and rural sites, the air pollutant concentration was calculated by Gaussian plume model which can obtain not only horizontal distribution of concentration but also vertical distribution. The result indicated that the concentration resulted from urban meteorological data set was lower than that from rural meteorological data set. It was also calculated that the air pollutant extended to higher level in urban meteorological data set than that in rural meteorological data set.
This study is to perform the effect of urbanization in urban and suburban districts, and to identify regional characters of climate according to the analysis of slope at rise, and descent of temperature and globe temperature, correlation between seasonal temperature analysis, and calculation of degree hour. According to this study, the result is summarized as follows. (1) The average temperature, rated from high to low, consists of residential area, Daegu weather station, intracity, green belt, water-front green belt, and suburban. (2) At the rise and descent of temperature, the result of the slope change of in each point may be one of the useful indexes to be able to perform the regional unique thermal characteristic, including the seasonal urbanization. (3) Although there is a difference between the surface of the earth and ambient environment. The result of the correlation of temperature between summer and winter is that temperature slope in urban districts was higher than in suburban districts, and the difference of slope was unvaried among the four observations in the same city region. (4) To show objectively, regional thermal characteristics in urban and suburban districts, the exponentiation of winter degree hour and summer degree hours were checked. The result of the exponentiation is that the more artificial a region, the lower index.
The physical environment of urban areas covered mostly by concrete and asphalt is the main cause of the urban heat island effect, primarily becoming apparent through increased land surface temperature. This study examined the effect of different urban land cover types on the land surface temperature using MODIS, Landsat ETM+ and RapidEye satellite data. As a result, the remote sensing based land surface temperature showed a marked difference according to the land use pattern in the case study of Ilsan new city. The high-rise apartment residential districts with less building-to-land ratio and higher green area ratio revealed lower land surface temperature than the low-story single-family housing districts characterized by relatively high building-to-land ratio and low green area ratio. From the view of climate zone and land cover types, there is a strong linear correlation between the impervious land cover ratio and the land surface temperature; the land surface temperature increases as the impervious built-up areas expand. In contrast, vegetation;water and shadow areas affect the decrease of land surface temperature. There is also a negative (-) correlation between NDVI and land surface temperature but the seasonal variation of NDVI can be hardly corrected.
Heatwaves are one of the most common phenomena originating from changes in the urban thermal environment. They are caused mainly by the evapotranspiration decrease of surface impermeable areas from increases in temperature and reflected heat, leading to a dry urban environment that can deteriorate aspects of everyday life. This study aimed to calculate daily maximum ground surface temperature affecting heatwaves, to quantify the effects of urban thermal environment control through water cycle restoration while validating its feasibility. The maximum surface temperature regression equation according to the impermeable area ratios of urban land cover types was derived. The estimated values from daily maximum ground surface temperature regression equation were compared with actual measured values to validate the calculation method's feasibility. The land cover classification and derivation of specific parameters were conducted by classifying land cover into buildings, roads, rivers, and lands. Detailed parameters were classified by the river area ratio, land impermeable area ratio, and green area ratio of each land-cover type, with the exception of the rivers, to derive the maximum surface temperature regression equation of each land cover type. The regression equation feasibility assessment showed that the estimated maximum surface temperature values were within the level of significance. The maximum surface temperature decreased by 0.0450℃ when the green area ratio increased by 1% and increased by 0.0321℃ when the impermeable area ratio increased by 1%. It was determined that the surface reduction effect through increases in the green area ratio was 29% higher than the increasing effect of surface temperature due to the impermeable land ratio.
Background: Landscape metrics have been widely applied to quantifying the relationship between land surface temperature and urban spatial patterns and have received acceptable verification from landscape ecologists but some studies have shown their inaccurate results. The objective of the study is to compare landscape metrics and texture-based measures as alternative indices in measuring urban heterogeneity effects on LST at multiple scales. Results: The statistical results showed that the correlation between urban landscape heterogeneity and LST increased as the spatial extent (scale) of under-study landscapes increased. Overall, landscape metrics showed that the less fragmented, the more complex, larger, and the higher number of patches, the lower LST. The most significant relationship was seen between edge density (ED) and LST (r = - 0.47) at the sub-region scale. Texture measures showed a stronger relationship (R2 = 34.84% on average) with LST than landscape metrics (R2 = 15.33% on average) at all spatial scales, meaning that these measures had a greater ability to describe landscape heterogeneity than the landscape metrics. Conclusion: This study suggests alternative measures for overcoming landscape metrics shortcomings in estimating the effects of landscape heterogeneity on LST variations and gives land managers and urban planners new insights into urban design.

The diurnal variations of $O_3$ and $NO_2$ in an urban park and the effects of air temperature and wind speed on the diurnal variations are investigated. $O_3$ and $NO_2$ concentrations were observed at a site in an urban park of Seoul from 27 July 2015 to 9 August 2015. The $O_3$ and $NO_2$ concentrations observed in the urban park are compared to those observed at the Gangnam air quality monitoring station (AQMS). The $O_3$ concentration is higher in the urban park than at the Gangnam AQMS in the daytime because the amount of $O_3$ dissociated by NO is smaller as well as partly because the amount of $O_3$ produced in the oxidation process of biogenic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is larger in the urban park than at the Gangnam AQMS. The $NO_2$ concentration is lower in the urban park than at the Gangnam AQMS during day and night because the observation site in the urban park is relatively far from roads where $NO_x$ is freshly emitted from vehicles. The difference in $NO_2$ concentration is larger in the daytime than in the nighttime. To examine the effects of air temperature and wind speed on the diurnal variations of $O_3$ and $NO_2$, the observed $O_3$ and $NO_2$ concentrations are classified into high or low air temperature and high or low wind speed days. The high $O_3$ and $NO_2$ concentrations in the daytime appear for the high air temperature and low wind speed days. This is because the daytime photochemical processes are favorable when the air temperature is high and the wind speed is low. The scatter plots of the daytime maximum $O_3$ and minimum $NO_2$ concentrations versus the daytime averages of air temperature and wind speed show that the daytime maximum $O_3$ and minimum $NO_2$ concentrations tend to increase as the air temperature increases or the wind speed decreases. The daytime maximum $O_3$ concentration is more sensitive to the changes in air temperature and wind speed in the urban park than at the Gangnam AQMS.
