Taking a Closer Look at Bus Driver Emotional Exhaustion and Well-Being: Evidence from Taiwanese Urban Bus Drivers

  • Background: Urban bus drivers work under conditions that are among the most demanding, stressful, and unhealthy with higher rates of mortality and morbidity as well as absenteeism and turnover. Methods: Drawing on the job demand-resource model, this study investigates the impacts of job characteristics on emotional exhaustion and the effects of emotional exhaustion on job outcomes (including job satisfaction, life satisfaction, organizational commitment, and turnover intention) in the context of bus drivers. Results: Using self-reported survey data collected from a sample of 320 Taiwanese urban bus drivers, results reveal that role overload and work-family conflict (as job demand factors) positively relate to emotional exhaustion, and organizational support (as a job resource factor) is negatively associated with emotional exhaustion. Emotional exhaustion has negative effects on both job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Job satisfaction positively leads to life satisfaction, whereas organizational commitment negatively relates to turnover intention. Conclusion: This study concludes that role overload and work-family conflict as two stressors related to job demands and organizational support as the job resource factor to affect emotional exhaustion which further influence well-being in bus driver context. The moderating effects of both extraversion and neuroticism on the relationship between job demands and emotional exhaustion are evident.

소규모 시내버스회사 운전기사의 건강증진생활양식 영향요인 (Influencing Factors on Health Promoting Lifestyle of Urban Bus Drivers in Small-sized Companies)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing health promoting lifestyle of urban bus driver in small-sized companies. Methods: This study included 118 urban bus drivers who completed questionnaires. The data were collected from 6 small-sized bus companies located in a metropolitan city, from January to February 2015. Analyses were done using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis. SPSS/Win 18.0 was used. Results: The scores of HPLP of urban bus drivers were 2.7 (on a 4-point scale). Mean of HPLP sub-scores were self-fulfillment ($3.0{\pm}0.5$), interpersonal relationship ($2.9{\pm}0.5$), physical activity ($2.9{\pm}0.7$), health responsibility ($2.7{\pm}0.5$), healthy diet ($2.6{\pm}0.6$), and stress management ($2.5{\pm}0.5$). Among independent variables, job satisfaction and presence of religion were significantly related to health promoting lifestyle (explained 39.2%). Conclusions: This study revealed that there is a need to strengthen job satisfaction for urban bus drivers' health promoting lifestyle.

근전도를 이용한 시내버스 운전자 피로도 분석 (The Analysis of Musle Fatigue for Urban Bus Driver using Electromyography)

  • Since driving include compilcated actions that require a variety of abillity and cause extrme concentration or strain, divers tend to feel tired easiy. However, divers can't recognize fatigue degree by himself and accordingly the methods to measure quantitative fatigue degree exactly is quite difficult to be secured. In this study, the most efficient driving posture was suggested based on the analysis of quantitative muscular strength and fatigue degree according to posture. The driver whom we experimented included 9 commercial bus drivers. We also analyzed quantitative legs' muscular strength according te operating each pedal, left and right then we analyzed muscular strength and muscular fatigue degree according to driving pattern while driving commercial buses. And then we suggested the most efficient driving posture.

A Study on Annoyance of Interior Noise on Town-Bus

  • In these days, the size of urban is growing and the function of city becomes complicated. And also, in city, people lives a lot. The life of urban is getting closer and linked with neighboring people in many parts. Especially, when peoples are exposing during using public transportation, even though does not be known, in they were living. Seoul is the most crowded place in Korea. In Seoul,The village buses have been serviced to the narrow streets. And people who use this bus, wants to seek the comfort of the ride, air quality and noise during in vehicle. In this paper, we determine the degree of annoyance with the noise inside the town bus in dB scale. And, such a situation was confirmed annoyance see their effect. The Interior noise did not see a big difference in the new car and the old car. Annoyance but also according to the skill of the bus driver remains the difference was confirmed.

서울의 대중교통체계 개편에 따른 시내버스업체의 생산성 변화 (Productivity Changes by Public Transport Reforms in the Seoul's Urban Bus Industry)

  • 시내버스의 이용자 감소, 시내버스업체의 운영수지 악화와 서비스 수준이 열악해짐에 따라 서울시는 최근 대중교통체계를 대폭적으로 개편하였다. 본 연구는 대중교통체계 개편이 시내버스업체들의 생산성에 미친 영향을 분석하기 위해서 자료포락분석기법을 이용하여 시내버스업체별 기술적 효율성을 측정한 후, 맘퀴스트지수 측정방법을 적용하여 생산성 변화를 도출하였다. 이 때 시내버스업체는 운전, 정비, 관리, 차량 및 연료의 다섯 가지 투입물을 사용하여 세 유형의 산출물, 즉 운행거리, 승객수 또는 운행거리와 승객수를 생산하는 기업형태로 상정되었다. 시내버스업체들의 생산성 분석결과 산출물로 운행거리를 상정한 경우 대부분의 업체들이 감소하였으나, 승객수를 상정한 경우 과반수 업체들이 증가하였다. 한편 산출물로 운행거리와 승객수를 함께 상정한 경우에는 평균적으로 생산성이 거의 변하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 이는 시내버스업체들의 대당 종사자수 증가와 운행거리 감소로 인해 효율성이 감소한 반면, 노선수 증가와 요금구조 변화에 따른 승객수 증가로 인해 효과성이 증가하였기 때문이다.

  • In this study, we proposed the most efficient driving posture based on the analysis of quantitative muscular strength and fatigue degree according to posture. We analyzed the quantitative legs' muscular strength when operating each pedal. And then we also analyzed the muscular strength and muscular fatigue degree according to driving pattern during bus driving. Therefore, we suggested the most efficient driving posture.

버스정보시스템(BIS) 운행자료를 이용한 링크통행시간 추정 (A Study on Estimate to Link Travel Time Using Traveling Data of Bus Information System)

  • 본 연구는 버스정보시스템(BIS)의 운영을 통해 수집되고 있는 데이터를 이용하여 도시내 가로의 통행시간을 추정하기 위한 연구이다. 기존의 버스시스템에 첨단정보통신 기술을 접목한 BIS는 많은 지방자치단체에서 구축하여 운영 중에 있다. 그러나 이러한 기술동향을 반영한 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 기존에 구축된 BIS의 운영을 통해 유용한 교통정보들이 수집되고 있으나 수집된 데이터의 활용은 활발히 이루어지지 못하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 BIS의 운영을 통해 수집되고 있는 버스운행 데이터를 이용하여 도시내 가로의 링크통행시간 추정을 통해 도시의 교통관리에 활용하고 운전자에게 교통정보를 제공하기 위한 기초적인 연구를 수행하고자 하였다. 연구결과 버스의 링크통행시간이 두 개의 군집으로 나타났으며 따라서 링크통행시간을 두 개의 군집으로 나누어 추정모형을 구축하였다. 구축된 모형을 통계적으로 검정하기 위해 T-test를 실시한 결과 통계적으로 유의한 것으로 분석되었다.

AGT 시스템 교량-차량 상호작용에 의한 교량응답 시뮬레이션 및 실험 (The Simulation and Experimental Study on the Bridge Response of AGT Bridge - Vehicle interaction System)

  • LRT(Light Railway Train), which is a intermediate system of train and bus, is arose for the solution of subway construction cost and the transportation capacity of bus. LRT was introduced in 1980's. About 30 local governments are plan to introduce LRT or constructing LRT, at present. AGT(Automated Guide-way Transit) system, which is a kind of LRT, is operated without driver. Rubber wheeled AGT system can reduce the noise and vibration compare to steel wheeled AGT, so it is estimated as ideal transportation system for urban area. And live loads at bridge are classified as the static load of vehicle and the dynamic wheel contact load which is occurred from the interaction of bridge and vehicle vibration, and the surface roughness. In the case of AGT system, the dynamic increment factor of bridge is greater than the normal train bridge and roadway bridge, because, the weight of AGT vehicle is more light that the train of truck. The exact method for dynamic increment factor is experiment. But this method is needed much money and time, moreover, this method cannot be adopted in design. Therefore, a simulation program for the interaction of AGT bridge, vehicle and surface roughness was developed, in this study. And the program was verified by experiment. As a result, the accuracy of the simulation program can be verified.
