We present new approach to analysis of velocity data of globular clusters. Maximum likelihood method is applied to get model parameters such as central potential, anisotropy radius, and total mass fractions in each mass class. This method can avoid problems in conventional binning method of chi-square. We utilize three velocity components, one from line of sight radial velocity and two from proper motion data. In our simplified scheme we adopt 3 mass-component model with unseen high mass stars, intermediate visible stars, and low mass dark remnants. Likelihood values are obtained for 124 stars in M13 for various model parameters. Our preferred model shows central potential of $W_o=7$ and anisotropy radius with 7 core radius. And it suggests non-negligible amount of unseen high mass stars and considerable amount of dark remnants in M13.

In this paper, a current hysteresis control with good decoupling properties for doubly-fed brushless induction machines (BDFIMs) has been proposed based on a generalized vector model. The independent control of the reactive power and speed for BDFIMs has been achieved by controlling the d-axis and the q-axis current of the control windings (CW). The proposed vector control method has been developed for the power winding (PW) flux frame. Experimental verification of a type Y180M-4 BDFIM prototype with 1/4 pole-pairs has been presented. Evidence of its good performance has been shown through experimental results.

We propose and analyze a chord summation algorithm, which combines the ideas of Viète and Archimedes to calculate the value of π. The error of the algorithm decreases exponentially per iteration and becomes pinched at a critical iteration, depending on the accuracy of the first input value, ${\sqrt{2}}$. The critical iteration is also analyzed.

Conventional lithography methods of gold patterning are based on deposition and lift-off or deposition and etching. In this letter, we demonstrate a novel method of gold patterning using spin-coatable gold electron-beam resist which is functionalized gold nanocrystals with amine ligands. Amine-stabilized gold electron beam resist exhibits good sensitivity, 3.0 mC/$cm^2$, compared to that of thiol-stabilized gold electron beam resists. The proposed method reduces the number of processing steps and provides greater freedom in the patterning of complex nanostructures.
Araneidae Clerck, 1757 is one of the largest families within the order Araneae Clerck, 1757, comprising 3,065 species in 177 genera. To date, two species of the genus Mengora O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1889 and four species of the genus Araniella Chamberlin & Ivie, 1942 have been recorded in Korea. During a seasonal survey of the spider fauna in mountainous terrain conducted from 2018 to 2019, females of Mangora foliosa Zhu & Yin, 1998 and a male of Araniella robusta sp. nov. were collected with a sweep net between shrubs in mixed forests from Mt. Juwangsan National Park. In this paper, we provide a diagnosis of the new species and descriptions including measurements and morphological illustrations. The new species, Araniella robusta sp. nov., can be easily distinguished from other species in the genus Araniella Chamberlin & Ivie, 1942 by a branched conductor with two blunt tips and conjugation of the embolus tip and terminal apophysis.

Size of building has a direct relationship with building cost, energy use and space maintenance cost. Therefore, minimizing building size during a project development is of paramount importance against such wastes. However, incautious reduction of building size may result in crowded space, and therefore harms the functionality despite the fact that building is supposed to satisfactorily support users' activity. A well-balanced design solution is, therefore, needed at an optimum level that minimizes building size in tandem with providing sufficient space to maintain functionality. For such design, architects and engineers need to be informed accurate and reliable space-use information. We present in this paper a conceptual framework of an agent-based space-use prediction simulation system that provides individual level space-use information over time in a building in consideration of project specific user information and activity schedules, space preference, ad beavioural rules. The information will accordingly assist architects and engineers to optimize space of the building as appropriate.

Recent significant development of organic electronics is worthy of notice for its practical application as well as fundamental understandings. Complementary-like logic circuit is a key factor to realize actual operating organic electronic devices since its advantages of low power dissipation, good noise margin and stable operations. In this reason, studies on ambipolar properties of organic materials which can act as either n-type or p-type are getting more attentions. Performances of ambipolar transistors vary a lot along its molecular structures and film properties. When properly fabricated, balanced hole and electron mobilities over 1 cm2/Vs were observed recently. Study of charge transport in ambipolar organic transistors to understand this high performance was carried out through charge modulation spectroscopy.
An entire function $f\;{\in}\;H(\mathbb{C})$ is called universal with respect to translations if for any $g\;{\in}\;H(\mathbb{C}),\;R\;>\;0,\;and\;{\epsilon}\;>\;0$, there is $n\;{\in}\;{\mathbb{N}}$ such that $$\mid$f(z\;+\;n)\;-\;g(z)$\mid$\;<\;{\epsilon}$ whenever $$\mid$z$\mid$\;{\leq}\;R$. Similarly, it is universal with respect to differentiation if for any g, R, and $\epsilon$, there is n such that $$\mid$f^{(n)}(z)\;-\;g(z)$\mid$\;<\;{\epsilon}\;for\;$\mid$z$\mid$\;{\leq}\;R$. In this note, we review G. MacLane's proof of the existence of universal functions with respect to differentiation, and we give a simplified proof of G. D. Birkhoff's theorem showing the existence of universal functions with respect to translation. We also discuss Godefroy and Shapiro's extension of these results to convolution operators as well as some new, related results and problems.
The fractal space is often associated with natural phenomena with many length scales and the functions defined on this space are usually not differentiable. First we define a $\sigma$-multifractal from $\sigma$-iterated function systems with probability. We introduce the measure derivative through the invariant measure of the $\sigma$-multifractal. We show that the non-differentiable function on the $\sigma$-multifractal can be differentiable with respect to this measure derivative. We apply this result to some examples of ordinary differential equations and diffusion processes on $\sigma$-multifractal spaces.
The number of studies on data-driven learning (DDL) has increased in recent years, and DDL's overall effectiveness as an L2 (second language) teaching methodology has been reported to be high. However, the degree of its effectiveness in grammar instruction, particularly for the goal of correcting errors in L2 writing, is still unclear. To provide guidelines for focused grammar instruction with DDL in the Japanese classroom setting, we aimed to identify the typical grammatical errors made by Japanese learners in the Cambridge Learner Corpus First Certificate in English (CLC FCE) dataset. The results revealed that three error types (nouns, articles, and prepositions) should be addressed in DDL grammar instruction for Japanese English as a foreign language (EFL) learners. In light of the findings, pedagogical implications and suggestions for future DDL research and practice are discussed.
