  • Tumor cell interaction with the extracellular matrix is defined as the critical event of tumor invasion that signals the initiation of a metastatic cascade. Sesquicillin has been identified as an inhibitor of melanoma cell adhesion to the components of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in cultured broth of fungal strain F60063. Sesquicillin strongly inhibited the adhesion of B16 melanoma cells to laminin, fibronectin, and typeIV collagen. It also inhibited B16 melanoma cell invasion of reconstituted basement membrane Matrigel in vitro in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggest that sesquicillin is a new class of nonpeptidic ECM adhesion inhibitor having anti-invasive activity.

  • The prepared dextran sulfates were characterized by measuring the reduced viscosisty at five different concentrations to obtain an intrinsic viscosity in both phosphate and tris buffers, pH 7.4, ionic strength of 0.1 Dextran sulfates having 0.81, 1.06 sulfate groups per hexose unit have reduced viscosity value below 40 ml/g whereas dextran sulfates having 1.21, 1.43, 1.69 sulfate groups per hexose unit have reduced viscosity value over 40 ml/g. Dextran sulfate having 1.21 sulfate groups per hexose unit had highest value of reduced viscosity. The reduced viscosity of dextran sulfate in tris buffer was always higher than that in phosphate buffer regardless of the sulfate content of dextran sulfate. The influence of the sulfation of the dextran sulfate. The influence of the sulfation of the dextran sulfate molecule on the dextran sulfate-LDL interaction was studied with three different dextran sulfate molecules. Dextran sulfate molecules having more than one sulfate group per hexose unit. The dextran sulfate having 0.81 sulfate groups per hexose unit showed considerably different precipitation curves in phosphate and tris buffers. This peculiar behavior of dextran sulfate having 0.81 sulfate groups per hexose unit in the two buffer systems was not noticed with dextran sulfate having more than one noticed with dextran sulfate having more than one sulfate group per hexose unit.

  • This study is to analyze women's power in family to be related to Anbang, kitchen, dining room, and utility room planning in a unit plan of condominium apartment housing in rural area Data were collected 194 unit plans from 9 eastern regions of Kungi-Do. The results are as followed: 1) Anbang reflects the women's power on changing its space character into mater bedroom, the highest hierarchy in private zone, and planning a dress room in it. 2) Dining room and kitchen is openly centered on the unit plan, but kitchen is still only women's working space for family and agriculture depended on literature review. Dining space is not activated family interaction, so it is not different from urban apartment housing. However, its location and character are changed, and its hierarchy is relatively higher with women. Dining room and kitchen tend to plan visually separated after 2001, so its trend seems to establish women's territory at home. 3) Whole family can't be easy to access utility and back balcony close to kitchen, and these spaces are functionally separated for women's house work. This design trend seems to establish for women's area. 4) Finally, women's power seems to be effective in house working area including kitchen space depended on results. Also, these results from rural condominium apartment are similar to urban ones in previous study.

  • A multiscale method is presented for analysis of thin slab structures in which the microstructures can not be reduced to two-dimensional plane stress models and thus three dimensional treatment of microstructures is necessary. This method is based on the classical asymptotic expansion multiscale approach but with consideration of the special geometric characteristics of the slab structures. This is achieved via a special form of multiscale asymptotic expansion of displacement field. The expanded three dimensional displacement field only exhibits in-plane periodicity and the thickness dimension is in the global scale. Consequently by employing the multiscale asymptotic expansion approach the global macroscopic structural problem and the local microscopic unit cell problem are rationally set up. It is noted that the unit cell is subjected to the in-plane periodic boundary conditions as well as the traction free conditions on the out of plane surfaces of the unit cell. The variational formulation and finite element implementation of the unit cell problem are discussed in details. Thereafter the in-plane material response is systematically characterized via homogenization analysis of the proposed special unit cell problem for different microstructures and the reasoning of the present method is justified. Moreover the present multiscale analysis procedure is illustrated through a plane stress beam example.

  • The spatial planning of the elderly care facility plans is analyzed using space syntax in terms of encouraging the social interaction of the residents in this study. First, through the visibility graph analysis, openness and accessibility of space is analysed. Second, the walking behavior of residents through agent analysis model is simulated. Third, the space planning methods for the elderly care facilities are proposed based on the results. The results are as follows. According to the visibility graph analysis, the main corridor has high visual openness and high accessibility. The visual openness and accessibility of the unit living room, where social interaction among residents is possible in each unit, is low. Space planning is needed to increase direct protection and observation of employees to the unit living room. The location of the nurse station that manages the entire floor needs to be located where the openness and accessibility is most high. The nursing station should have a high degree of connectivity to the entire space, so that any accidents can be managed and contact is accessible. Through the agent simulation the flow from the center to each unit space is highest in the corridor space and the inflow to the private rooms and the living room are similar. Therefore, it is necessary to plan the accessibility of the unit living room more for the natural inflow of residents.

  • Hand gesture recognition is regarded as new Human Computer Interaction (HCI) technologies for the next generation of mobile devices. Previous hand gesture implementation requires a large memory and computation power for hand segmentation, which fails to give real-time interaction with mobile devices to users. Therefore, in this paper, we presents a low latency and memory-efficient hand segmentation architecture for natural hand gesture recognition. To obtain both high memory-efficiency and low latency, we propose a streaming hand contour tracing unit and a fast contour filling unit. As a result, it achieves 7.14 ms latency with only 34.8 KB on-chip memory, which are 1.65 times less latency and 1.68 times less on-chip memory, respectively, compare to the best-in-class.

  • 'Movement System' is made of the interaction of user and architectural spaces related to each other in order. 'Movement' meant in movement system is possible only in the status of user and architectural space together. Movement created and disappeared by the user is not subordinated to the existing architectural space but becomes the main element of formating movement system. It is required that movement conception applied to architecture should be derived from the essence of movement and this study presents the movement system. To explain the formating process of movement system, A. N. Whitehead's process philosophy theory is at the basis and transformed in architectural aspects. On basis of these theoretical backgrounds, the process of making movement system can be explained. There are unit movement, unit object, and elements for movement process as the basic requirements for movement system, each unit is apprehended by individual operation and the nexus is composed by associative operation of apprehended units. This nexus becomes the object of a new subject and forms multiple nexus. Relation of unit movement and unit object and nexus are apprehended as the continuation and extensive continuum is made. At that time, movement with multiple phases set inbetween systems and extended multiplied. Through above study, movement system is applied to Korean traditional houses.

  • CA(1-8)-ME(1-12) [CA-ME], composed of cecropin A(1-8) and melittin(1-12), is a synthetic antimicrobial peptide having potent antibacterial and antitumor activities with minimal hemolytic activity. In order to investigate the effects of the flexible hinge sequence, Gly-Ile-Gly, of CA-ME on antibiotic activity, CA-ME and three analogues, CA-ME1, CA-ME2, and CA-ME3, were synthesized. The Gly-Ile-Gly sequence of Ca-ME was deleted in CA-ME1 and replaced with Pro and Gly-Pro-Gly in CA-ME2 and CA-ME3, respectively. CA-ME1 and CA-ME3 showed a significant decrease in antitumor activity and phospholipid vesicle-disrupting ability. However, CA-ME2 showed similar antitumor and vesicle-disrupting activities, as compared with CA-ME. These results suggest that the flexibility or ${\beta}$-turn induced by Gly-Ile-Gly or Pro in the central part of CA-ME may be important in the electrostatic interaction of the N-terminus cationic ${\alpha}$-helical region with the cell membrane surface and the hydrophobic interaction of the C-terminus amphipathic ${\alpha}$-helical region with the hydrophobic acyl chains in the cell membrane. CA-ME3 exhibited lower antitumor and vesicle-disrupting activities than CA-ME and CA-ME2. This result suggests that the excessive ${\beta}$-turn structure caused by the Gly-Pro-Gly sequence in CA-ME3 seems to interrupt ion channel/pore formation in the lipid bilayer. We concluded that the appropriate flexibility or bilayer. We concluded that the appropriate flexibility or ${\beta}$-turn structure provided by the central hinge is responsible for the effective antibiotic activity of the antimicrobial peptides with the helix-hinge-helix structure.

  • In this study, flow analysis and fluid-solid interaction analysis were conducted on a hollow fiber membrane module used for analysis of dehumidification characteristics. To ensure the reliability of the flow analysis results, the dehumidification experiment was performed under the temperature of 30℃ and relative humidity of 30% RH. The results of the dehumidification experiments were compared with the flow analysis results. The results of dehumidification experiments and flow analysis had a difference of approximately 5%. A 1-Way fluid-solid interaction analysis with various materials was conducted. From the results, it was found that the baffle with the largest shape deformation (polyethylene material) was subjected to 2-way fluid-solid interaction. The analysis of fluid flow and dehumidification characteristics were analyzed according to the shape deformation of the baffle.
