  • This paper presents an in-depth analysis of the nonlinear vibration of microbeams, with a particular emphasis on their application in sports monitoring systems. The research utilizes classical beam theory, modified couple stress theory, and von-Kármán nonlinear parameters to explore the behavior of microbeams. These microbeams are characterized by a non-uniform geometry, with materials that continuously change along the beam radius and a thickness that varies along the beam length. The main contribution lies in its exploration of the stability of smart sensors in sports structures, particularly those with non-uniform geometries. The research findings indicate that these non-uniform microbeams, when used in smart systems made of functionally graded temperature-dependent materials, can operate effectively in thermal environments. The smart system developed in this study demonstrates significant potential for use in sports applications, particularly in monitoring and gathering information. The insights gained from this research contribute to the understanding of the performance and optimization of microbeams in sports applications, particularly in the context of non-uniform geometries. This research, therefore, provides a foundation for the development of advanced, reliable, and efficient monitoring systems in sports applications.

  • Multilayer(clad) sheets, composed of two or more materials with different properties, are fabricated using the roll-bonding process. A good formability is an essential property for a multilayered sheet in order to manufacture parts by plastic deformation. In this study, the influences of temperature and strain rate on the plastic properties of stainless steel-aluminum-magnesium multilayered(STS-Al-Mg) sheets were investigated. Tensile tests were performed at various temperatures and strain rates on the multilayered sheet and on each separate layer. Fracture of the multilayered sheet was observed to be temperature-dependent. At the base temperature of $200^{\circ}C$, all materials fractured simultaneously. At lower temperatures, the Mg alloy sheet fractured earlier than the other materials. Conversely, the other materials fractured earlier than the Mg alloy sheet at higher temperatures. The uniform and total elongations of the multilayered sheet were observed to be higher than that of each material at a temperature of $250^{\circ}C$. Larger uniform elongations were obtained for higher strain rates at constant temperature. The same trend was observed for the Mg alloy sheet, which exhibited the lowest elongation among the three materials. The tensile strengths and elongations of the single layer sheets were compared to those of the multilayer material. The strength of the multilayered sheet was successfully calculated by the rule of mixture from the values of each single layer. However, no simple correlation between the elongation of each layer and that of the multilayer was obtained.

  • Target detection is very difficult with complex clutters in IRST(Infrared Search and Track) system for a long distance target. Especially sea-clutter and ocean-surface with non-uniform temperature distribution make it difficult to detect incoming targets in images obtained in sea environment. In this paper, we propose a novel method based on morphological method for estimation of ocean surface with non-uniform temperature flow. In order to estimate the exact ocean surface temperature flow, we divided it into upper and lower bound flow. And after estimating it, the final ocean surface temperature flow is derived by a mean value of the estimated results. Also, we apply the multi-weighted technique with a variety of sizes of structure elements to overcome sub-sampling effect by using morphology method. Experimental results for ocean surface images acquired from many different environments are compared with results of existing method to verify the performance of the proposed methods.

  • A 2.45GHz microwave plasma source with a linear antenna has been developed for low temperature large scale deposition processing. Microwave power is transmitted through WR340 waveguide and a copper rod, linear antenna, is located in a quartz tube. The power matching is effectively achieved by a linear antenna is located at ${\lambda}_g/4$ or $3{\lambda}_g/4$ from the end of WR340 waveguide. The Ar plasma was generated along the surface of quartz tube and a clear standing wave pattern with nearly 10cm wavelength was observed at Ar pressure of 200mTorr and 200W input power. The electron density and electron temperature were investigated by using the electrostatic probe. The electron density and electron temperature were highly measured near the surface of quartz tube. Ar plasma density along the quartz tube is mostly uniform despite standing wave set-up and antenna of long length. A uniform temperature was measured at 10~40cm distance from the end quartz tube and 5cm distance from the surface of quartz tube.

  • This paper describes water circulation characteristics of a water/steam receiver at various heat fluxes. The water/steam receiver for a solar tower power system is a natural circulation type. Experimental conditions of water and steam were set at a pressure of 5 bar and temperature of $151.8^{\circ}C$. The experimental device for the water/steam receiver consisted of a steam drum, upper/lower header, riser tubes, and downcomer tube. The experiments were conducted by varying heat fluxes in terms of mass flow rate in each riser tube. However, the total mass flow rate on the riser tubes was fixed at 217.4 g/s. For the uniform heat flux, while the water temperature of the steam drum and upper header were kept at steady state, the temperature of the lower header was fluctuated. For the non-uniform heat flux, while the temperature of the steam drum was kept steady state, the temperature difference increased in the right and left side of the upper header, and the temperature of the lower header was fluctuated.

  • Considerable longitudinal rail forces and displacements may develop in continuous welded rail (CWR) track on long-span bridges due to temperature variations. The track stability may be disturbed due to excessive relative displacements between the sleepers and ballast bed and the accompanied reduction in frictional resistance. For high-speed tracks, however, solving these problems by installing rail expansion devices in the track is not an attractive solution as these devices may cause a local disturbance of the vertical track stiffness and track geometry which will require intensive maintenance. With reference to temperature, two actions are considered by the bridge loading standards, the uniform variation in the rail and deck temperature and the temperature gradient in deck. Generally, the effect of temperature gradient has been disregarded in the interaction analysis. This paper mainly deals with the effect of temperature gradient on the track-bridge interaction with respect to the support reaction, rail stresses and stability. The study presented in this paper was not mentioned in the related codes so far.

  • The aim of the research was to evaluate the characteristics of thermal environment and thermal comfort in the Dry Double floors Hydronic Ondol System. Physical indoor thermal environments (the floor surface temperature, the vertical temperature, etc.) and skin temperature have especially been measured. Physical features conditions, sensation, thermal comfort, humidity sensation, comfort of body were investigated for the survey. As a result, (1) During the operation of the boiler (12 hour), the average indoor temperature is appeared to be $21.6^{\circ}C$. The floor surface temperature showed peak value of $31.4{\sim}40.6^{\circ}C$ after 8hours 30minutes after the start-point of the heating. The vertical difference of temperature was turned out to be not uniform. (2) While the skin temperature showed a narrow distribution of temperature in the Dry Double floors Hydronic Ondol system. (3) The response to thermal comfort which people felt was satisfactory, and most of them felt dry during the test.

  • Temperature variation during silicon wafer baking is mainly due to natural convection caused by temperature difference between silicon wafer and upper plate. Several cases are tested and calculated numerically to improve temperature uniformity. The temperature difference and velocity magnitude in the flow cell is reduced for a small gap between the wafer and upper plate because the natural convection force is suppressed in the small space. The uniform temperature distribution can be obtained with controling the incoming flow distribution from the upper plate. An alternative method is the adiabatic wall condition on the upper plate to maintain the temperature uniformity within $0.3^{\circ}C$ on the water plate.

  • A rapid thermal annealing system using tungsten halogen lamp has been designed and assembled. A control scheme where the temperature control is executed with calculated wafer temperature by considering the thermocouple delay rather than measured thermocouple temperature,is proposed. This control scheme gives more accurate control of the wafer temperature. In addition, the distribution of transmitted light power to the wafer in the system has been simulated, and lamp interval modification has been able to give more uniform light power distribution. Considering incident light spectrum, absorption, reflection, radiation of silicon, etc., temperature profile has been simulated. When the light power uniformity on the 3" wafer is below 1%, the temperature uniformity is about 2%.

  • This paper proposes a cooling stop temperature control(CSTC) concept which aims at obtaining the uniform temperature and quality of the material along the longitudinal and lateral direction of the strip. The CSTC is designed using the experimental CCT(Continuous Cooling Transformation), TTT(Time Temperature Transformation) curves and the temperature control model by the heat transfer governing equation, and the temperature control simulator. The cooling pattern and the rolling speed can be solved by the CSTC. It is shown through the field test of the hot strip mill of POSCO that the phase transformation ratio of the high carbon steel is considerably improved by the proposed temperature control.
