  • In this paper, fSDF/POF, BPOF spatial matched filters are designed and implemented by CGH. The correlation characteristics for the suggested filters are analyzed for the distorted input images. Input patterns are obtained from the out-of-plane aircraft images by gradually rotating it, and then used for SDF training images. Modified version of LCD is used for a real-time input device of an optical correlator, and CGH-based fSDF filters are fabricated on film mask for spatial matched filter in order to recognize the distorted images. Total optical corrlator system size is effectively reduced to 148.8 cm by using lens combinations. Computer simulations and experimental results show that the suggested phase filters have nearly uniform correlation characteristics and have good classification capabilities between two classes.

  • The self-assembly of peptide-based building blocks into nanostructures is an attractive route for fabricating novel materials because of their capacity for molecular recognition and functional flexibility as well as the mild conditions required in the fabrication process. Among various peptide-based building blocks forming nanostructures, the simplest building blocks are aromatic dipeptides like diphenylalanine, which can readily self-assemble into nanotubes in aqueous solutions at ambient conditions. Recently, we have developed a high-temperature solid-phase self-assembly process for diphenylalanine. Through this novel process, we succeeded in the growth of vertically well-aligned, uniform nanowires from amorphous peptide thin film. To demonstrate the versatility of our approach, we also fabricated a micropattern of peptide nanowires by combining our solid-phase growth method and simple soft lithographic techniques. We believe that our studies on peptide self-assembly will provide a new horizon for peptide-based nanofabrication.

  • Silicon carbide (SiC) films were deposited by low pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) using MTS (CH3SICl3) in a hydrogen atmosphere onto graphite substrates. Depletion effects of reactants which usually occur in the hot wall horizaontal reactor were increased with deposition temperature and pressure. Below 50 torr of total pressure (111) plane was preferenctially grown irrespectrive of deposition temperature and deposition site. Over 50 torr of total pressure however (220) plane was preferentially deposited under 130$0^{\circ}C$ and at inlet site. The surface morphologies of SiC films were uniform at all deposition sites under low pressure but greatly changed with pressure. It shows that a facet structure which was formed above 125$0^{\circ}C$ played an important role in the changed of preferred orientation and surface roughness.

  • We report on the synthesis of highly uniform, single phase zinc and cobalt thin films prepared by the Liquid Phase Deposition (LPD) method. X-Ray diffraction, TGA and EDX measurements support the assumption that the as deposited films are constituted by a mixture of crystallized FeOOH and amorphous M(OH)$_2$ (M=Co, Zn) which is converted upon heat treatment in air at 600?C into the corresponding zinc ferrites. The films with adjustable chemical compositions are identified with a crystal structure as spinel-type and present a spherical or rod-like microstructure, depending on the both the nature and concentration of the divalent transition metal ions. Zinc ferrite thin films present a superparamagnetic behavior above blocking temperatures which decrease with increasing the Zn content and are ferromagnetic at 5 K with coercivities ranging between 797.8 and 948.5 Oe, whereas the cobalt ferrite films are ferromagnetic at room temperature with magnetic characteristics strongly dependent on the chemical composition.

  • We have fabricated $Bi_{3.25}$$La_{0.75}$ti$_3$O$_{12}$ (BLT) thin(200nm) films on the Pt/Ti/SiO$_2$/Si substrates using a MOD(Metalorganic decomposition) method with annealing temperature from 55$0^{\circ}C$ to 75$0^{\circ}C$. The structural properties of the films examined by x-ray diffraction. The layered-perovskite phase obtained above $600^{\circ}C$. Scanning electron micrographs showed uniform surface composed of rodlike grains. The grain size increased with increasing annealing temperature. The BLT thin films showed little polarization fatigue test up to 3.5x10$^{9}$ bipolar cycling at a 5V and 100kHz.kHz.

  • The field emission characteristics of diamond films deposited by microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (MPECVD) method were investigated. Diamond films were deposited on n-type Si(100) wafer using various mixtures of hydrogen and methane gas, and the I-V characteristics are measured. We observed that the field emission characteristics depend on the $CH_4$ concentration and the diamond film thickness. All the films show remarkable emission characteristics; low turn-on voltage, high emission current density at lower voltage, uniform stable current density, and good stability and reproducibility. The threshold field for producing a current density of 1mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ is found as low as 7.6V/$\mu\textrm{m}$.

  • Al1050 and Al7075 alloy specimens were exposed to atmospheric conditions for maximum 12 months and analyzed by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) to characterize the early-stage corrosion behavior and thin surface oxide layers. By comparing of oxide films between Al1050 and Al7075 alloys, it is concluded that Al7075 has a relatively thicker surface oxide film than Al1050 but Al1050 has relatively more significant oxygen penetration through grain boundaries. The oxygen penetration through grain boundaries appeared to be influenced by intermetallic particles at the grain boundary. In the case of aluminum alloys, localized corrosion like pitting or intergranular corrosion should be considered as well as uniform corrosion when estimating the atmospheric corrosion rate.

  • With the development of many display technologies currently applied to them in the field of printed electronics, there have been many researches that high resolution printing for thin and uniform pattern. In this paper, printing ink flow properties in the reverse offset mechanism were simulated. The aim of this research is to expect the ink flow behavior between cliches to make fine pattern by a printing technique which is a reverse offset. The simulation results show that almost the same as the experiments and the flow behavior according to the ink film thickness and printing pressure changes could be expected.

  • Pd nanogap hydrogen sensors were developed using an elastomeric substrate and operated through an on-off mechanism. A 10 nm thick Pd thin film was formed on a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate, and 50% of the physical strain was applied in the longitudinal direction to fabricated uniform nanogaps. The initial concentration of the hydrogen gas for the PDMS/Pd films was controlled, and subsequently, the on-off switching response was measured. We found that the average nanogap was less than 50 nm, and the Pd nanogap hydrogen sensors operated over a wide range of temperatures. In particular, the sensors work properly even at a very low temperature of -40℃ with a fast response time of 2 s. In addition, we have investigated the relative humidity and annealing effects.

  • Dry processes like evaporation and sputtering in vacuum chamber are difficult to make a uniform, large area and high quality film on thin PET substrate because of PET degradation and bad adhesion. On the other hand, wet processes like electro or electroless plating have complex processes and require high environmental cost. In this study, we successfully prepared $2{\mu}m$ Zn/Cu/Ni multilayers coated on $12{\mu}m$ polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate by using dry-wet mixing processes. Their surface electric resistances were evaluated around $0.2{\Omega}$ by using 4 probe measurements. Furthermore, their corrosion resistance also evaluated by natural potential test and compared with other wet, dry and mixing process samples.
