A Study of New Models for Scientific Inquiry Activity through Understanding the Nature of Science (NOS): - A Proposal for a Synthetic View of the NOS -

  • In this study, it is assumed that understanding the nature of science (NOS) would enhance students' performance of scientific inquiry in more authentic ways. The ultimate goal of this study is to suggest new models for developing scientific inquiry activities through understanding the NOS by linking the NOS with scientific inquiry. First, the various definitions and statements of the NOS are summarized, then the features of the developmental nature of scientific knowledge and the nature of scientific thinking based on the philosophy of science are reviewed, and finally a synthetic list of the elements of the NOS is proposed, consisting of three categories: the nature of scientific knowledge, the nature of scientific inquiry, and the nature of scientific thinking. This suggested synthetic list of the NOS is used to suggest a model of scientific inquiry through the understanding of the NOS. This list was designed to provide basic standards regarding the NOS as well as practical guidance for designing activities to improve students' understanding of the NOS.

  • This paper investigates the quality determinants in the consulting service for small and medium sized company. The results of the analysis show that the quality dimension is composed of two factors, consulting skills and interaction, and consulting skills are composed of understanding, expertise, and reliability. Also, this paper examines how the quality factors affect customer satisfaction and loyalty using a structural equation model. The result shows that all consulting skills affect customer satisfaction and customer satisfaction affects customer loyalty. The consulting results have an effect on customer satisfaction but have no direct influence on customer loyalty.

영어 학습 능력 향상을 위한 문화지도 (Teaching American Culture to Improve English Skills)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the improvement of students' interest and general proficiency of English through cultural understanding. To achieve this purpose, two classes of the 2nd grade in the informational high school were divided into the experimental class and the control class. The Grammar-Translation Method was used for the control class and a cultural learning - compare and contrast Korean culture and American culture - was taken for the experimental. After various cultural differences were studied, surveys of students' attitude and reading and listening test were taken. The results from this study were as follows: Firstly, students' interest in English was improved through learning the American culture that was related to the content of each lesson. Secondly, English reading and communicative skills were improved by learning about cultural aspects. Therefore, it can be said that teaching culture stimulates students' interest and motivation for learning English and helps students retain such affective attitudes. And English communicative skills were improved as well.

지역사회 청소년의 리더쉽기술과 조직몰입 관계분석 (Investigating the Relationship between Leadership Skills and Organizational Commitment of Community Youth)

  • Rearing community youth has been main factors of sustainable agriculture and rural community. The purposes of this study were to analyze the leadership skill and organizational commitment of community youth and to investigate the relationship between leadership skill and organizational commitment. The data were collected from 196 rural youth by stratified random sampling. The study was adopted t-test, ANOVA factor analysis and correlation analysis. The major findings of this study were as follows; First, community youth married, wealthier, and expanded farming area were more likely to have leadership life skills than others. Second, community youth wealthier and expanded farming area were more likely to have organizational commitment than others. Third, group activity, being leader, teaming skill, communication self understanding, decision making, language skill among leadership skills have positively correlated with organizational commitment.

사회극화놀이에서 교사개입이 유아의 사회극화놀이 수준, 사회적 기술 및 언어능력에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Teacher Intervention in Sociodramatic Play on Social Play Levels, Social Skills and Language Abilities of Young Children)

  • The subjects of this study on the effects of teacher intervention in sociodramatic plays were 54 five-year-old children from 2 public kindergartens in C city. Socioeconomic stasus and, aside from teacher interventions, educational procedures were the same for both the experimental group(28 subjects) and the control (26 subjects) groups in both schools. Instruments were the Social Play Rating Scale(Smilansky & Shefatya, 1990), Social Situations Measure(McGinnis & Goldstein, 1990), and Language Ability Test(Chang, 1981). Procedures included pretest, 14 weeks treatments and post-test. Data were analyzed by t-test. Results indicated significant differences in social play levels between the experimental and control groups, (b) including differences in such general social skills as emotional control and relationships with others. There were also differences in language ability, including such subordinates as language understanding and expressive abilities.

  • Although problem solving was a major focus of mathematics education research in many countries throughout the 1990s, not enough is known about how people best acquire problem-solving skills. This paper is an attempt to advance further development of problem-solving skills of talented school students through combination of some methods accessible from curriculum knowledge and more special techniques that are beyond curriculum. Analysis of various problems is provided in detail. Educational aspects of challenging problems in mathematical contests up to IMO level are, also, taken into account and discussed in the paper.

  • The field of digital forensics requires good theoretical and practical knowledge, so practitioners should have an in-depth understanding and knowledge of both theory and practical as they need to take decisions which impacts human lives. With the demand and advancements in the realm of digital forensics, many universities around the globe are offering digital forensics programs, but there is a huge gap between the skills acquired by the student's and the market needs. Impact of Hand-Held Technology for Understanding Linear Equations and Graphs

  • This article describes a research project that examined the impact of hand-held technology on students' understanding linear equations and graphs in multiple representations. The results indicated that students in the graphing-approach classes were significantly better at the components of interpreting. No significant differences between the graphing-approach and traditional classes were found fur translation, modeling, and algebraic skills. Further, students in the graphing-approach classes showed significant improvements in their attitudes toward mathematics and technology, were less anxious about mathematics, and rated their class as more interesting and valuable.

Comparison Survey Examining Korean and Japanese University Students' Understanding of Foreign Words

  • This paper investigated the influence of foreign words, otherwise known as loan words, on global communication abilities of university students from two non English-speaking countries: Korea and Japan. To survey the understanding and usage of foreign words which are from English language and used frequently in daily conversation, questionnaires were administered to Korean and Japanese university students majoring in engineering who shared similar linguistic backgrounds. The results were analyzed from global communication viewpoint. Based on the results, methods for improving global communication skills in engineering education were proposed.

  • 직업소양능력은 산업분야에 진출하는 산업인력들이 자신의 직무를 성공적으로 수행하기 위해 갖추어야 할 기본 능력이다. 본 연구는 대학생 직업소양능력 습득의 필요성을 인식하고 예비산업인력인 전문대학 학생의 직업소양능력 수준을 규명해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 D 전문대학을 대표사례로 선정하고 직업소양능력 진단도구인 CCQB(Core Competency Questions using BARS)를 토대로 재학생, 교원, 현장전문가 및 졸업생을 대상으로 설문조사 및 FGI(Focus Group Interview)를 실시하였다. 연구결과, 직업소양능력 수준에 대해 학생과 교원의 인식에 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 능력향상을 위한 지원이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 직업소양능력에 대한 산업현장의 높은 기대와 요구에 부응하기 위해서는 학생 개인의 노력을 넘어 대학에서 보다 체계적이고 전문적인 교육프로그램과 지원시스템이 마련되어야 한다.
