  • Over the past two decades following the 1990s, South Korea's IT industry has developed rapidly. In keeping with this trend, the architectural and urban planning sectors have also converged with IT and achieved advancement in new directions. This evolution includes a variety of conceptual terminologies such as 'home automation', ''home network', 'smart home, and 'ubiquitous-city'. However, smart homes and U-cities simply represent a conceptual extension of home networks, and there is little real difference in the technologies involved. In particular, U-cities remain focused on infrastructure rather than on the development of specific content; consequently, they have failed to demonstrate distinctive features to clearly differentiate themselves from conventional cities. In such a context, this research aims at the proposal of a 'ubiquitous pavilion' as a component of the efforts to develop a range of architectural contents that utilize ubiquitous technologies. By grafting the pavilion, one of the most basic forms in architecture, with cutting-edge ubiquitous technologies, this paper intends to suggest a multi-purpose architectural space readily and simply available not only in newly emerging U-cities, but to conventional cities as well.

  • As the concept of Ubiquitous Computing has become an important issue, we need to have a voice in the field of Crime Prevention Technology. Ubiquitous Computing means that IT network based on realization of 6A(Anytime, Anywhere, Anybody, Anynetwork, Anydevice, Anyservice) is deeply penetrated into our daily life. As ITS has developed with the aid of IT and Crime Prevention Technology together, we need to discuss u-Crime Prevention or Crime Prevention sector is mentioned as a major application of Ubiquitous Computing.

  • "The Act on Ubiquitous City Construction and etc." stipulates the regulations on the planning, construction and management of the u-City. As its national-level law system is about to take its effects, future new city developments are expected to have its legal basis to be built to meet u-City requirements. Also, it is anticipated that such needs would require much more planning techniques and strategies. In reaction to those upcoming needs, this study is to search for new IT infrastructure construction process of the u-City in reality. It is also to supply with the each step framework to execute the u-City projects in more structuralize and systemize manner. Therefore, with the u-City IT infra construction guide line v1.0, purpose of the establishment of comprehensive IT infrastructure construction process.

  • This paper intended to observe the present state of the U-City development in local governments and to present the basic view-point to carry out it in the context of total urban area. Also, this paper has a meaning to present a fundamental perspective for making plan to go on the U-City development. For this reason, it was investigated on the concept of 'Ubiquitous', the related technologies to realize the U-City, the related policies for 'Ubiquitous' in the central government, and the circumstances of the U-City development in the local government. Finally, on developing the U-City in local government, this paper presented its developing direction in the context of the whole urban structure and in the relation with the developed urban areas.

  • Modern society can be described as ubiquitous computing over the concept of information. Information technology(IT) has been developing in a way that relative technologies are integrated to each other. Especially in ubiquitous environment, medical information industry shows significant interest in the U-healthcare service area. This paper will first look into U-healthcare service environment and component of Integrated Medical Information Systems(IMIS). Secondly, it examines the basic technological factors for integrated medical information systems, which is datawarehouse, network, communication standards and technology related U-healthcare service. Finally it proposes how to implement and operate new integrated medical information system for ubiquitous health care service. The system will do point of care(POC) for customers by real time and diagnose them using their various and personal medical data. The information will be communicated back to the customers, which will improve their satisfaction.

  • Last February, $\ulcorner$The Act on Ubiquitous City Construction and etc.$\lrcorner$ was approved by the National Assembly. The law stipulates the regulations on the planning, construction and management of the Ubiquitous City. As its national-level law system is about to take its effects, future new city developments are expected to have its legal basis to be built to meet ubiquitous city requirements. Also, it is anticipated that such needs would require much more planning techniques and strategies. In reaction to those upcoming needs, this study is to search for new planning approaches to realize the u-City in reality. It is also to supply with the framework to execute the u-City projects in more structuralize and systemize manner. Therefore, with the purpose of the establishment of comprehensive planning system, the theoretical bases were sought in relation to planning u-City, pre-existing u-City development cases and regarding regulations were analyzed, and then basic concepts, features, and constituent factors were set up.

  • u-T (ubiquitous transportation) environment can be envisioned as an advanced version of ITS environment and be expected to provide more advanced transportation service in a ubiquitous manner. As a basic necessity to measure traffic flow in both environments, a flow estimation method was proposed. Flows have been measured in existing ITS and in a new u-T environments and some differences were investigated using simulation technique. In the interrupted traffic situation, the flow rate of u-T is 3.58% higher than that in ITS environment. Both MARE and MAE, which were used as measure of effectiveness, in u-T were better since the results are 31.4% and 31.1% lower than in ITS, respectively. Besides the equality coefficient in u-T was 1.9% higher than that in ITS. Such being the case, the flow rate measured in u-T using U-TSN is more reliable and can be expected to be successfully used for transportation system design or traffic operation areas.

  • This research focused on the effect of the GIS, uIT, and RS based smart disaster systems. Ubiquitous IT strongly involved in intelligent analysis for the natural disasters. Remote sensing technologies, such as hyper-spectral imaging, MODIS, LiDAR, Radar, and optical imaging processes, can contribute many means of investigation for the natural and unnatural problems in the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere. Recent IT trends guides abundant smart solutions, such as automatic sensing using USN, RFID, and wireless communication devices. Smart monitoring systems using intelligent LBSs will produce many ways of checking, processes, and controls for the human safeties. In results, u-smart GIS, uIT, and RS based disaster systems must be using ubiquitous IT involved smart systems using intelligent GIS methods.

  • For the development and management of u-City(ubiquitous city), Ubiquitous City Construction Law was enacted(March 3, 2008) to form the legal basis of u-City plan, construction and managements afterwards. The ultimate goal of the u-City construction is the advancement of national territory utilization and management using Korea's high level of IT and spatial information infrastructure. Based on the definition of the u-City Construction Law, the u-City refers to a city where u-City services are provided through the u-City infrastructure applying u-City technology. But, based on the current level of relationship model among u-City service, technology and infrastructure, it is not enough to guide the local municipalities to plan and provide the successful u-City services in its vicinity. So as one of the core issues for the legal arrangements of successful u-City services, the purpose of the study is to suggest the basic directions and execution strategies for the relationship establishment among u-City service, technology and infrastructure.
