TV Anytime and MPEG-21 DIA based Ubiquitous Consumption of TV Contents in Digital Home Environment (TV Anytime 및 MPEG-21 DIA 기반 콘텐츠 이동성을 이용한 디지털 홈 환경에서의 유비쿼터스 TV 콘텐츠 소비)

  • Much research in core technologies has been done to make it possible the ubiquitous video services over various kinds of user information terminals anytime anywhere in the way the users want to consume. In this paper, we design plototypesystem architecture for the ubiquitous TV program content consumption based on user preference via various kinds of intelligent information terminals in digital home environment, and present an implementation and testing results for the prototype system. For the system design, we utilize the TV Anytime specification fur the consumption of TV program contents based on user preference in TV programs, and also use the MPEG-21 DIA (Digital Item Adaptation) tools which are the representation schema formats in order to describe the context information for user environments, user terminal characteristics, user characteristics for universal access and consumption of the preferred TV program contents. The proposed ubiquitous content mobility prototype system is designed to make it possible to seamlessly consume contents by a single user or multiple users via various kinds of user terminals for the TV program contents they watch together. The proposed ubiquitous content mobility prototype system in digital home environment consists of a home server, a display TV terminal, and an intelligent information terminal. We use 42 TV programs contents in eight different genres from four different TV channels in order to test our prototype system.

  • Recently, inn the ubiquitous home where a variety of home devices and sensors are inter-connected, various services can be provided through wired and wireless networks invisibly. The convenience of users can be maximized by using intelligent and adaptive interoperability technologies in the home. In this paper, it is designed u-apartment that connected parking system of intelligental form and medical service system based on USN environment with existing apartment. Intelligental form parking system is designed specific structure architecture for effective improvement of parking space and medical service system propose a design about health management of future. In this paper, we propose integrated u-apartment design with parking system and medical equipment using RFID system in ubiquitous environment.

  • Consumers have paid attention to various functions of PC's nowadays from its efficiency in the past. This study set limits to adapted computers by consumer needs for their residence facilities and ubiquitous environment in our society. The purpose of this study is to suggest high potentialities of adapted computers and it's design for materializing house ubiquitous system. It has come out from analyzing PC market. The result is that Barebone PC, a kind of set PC, could be one of the most actual way for materializing house ubiquitous system. This study suggests many potentialities of Barebone PC which invites modular system. The existing Barebone PC is a kind of semimanufactures, however the new Barebone PC in this study is a expanded concept of modular system that connected to the area of the electric home appliances. This is inspected by analyzing the relation among potentialities and impotance of set PC design and module.

  • Recently, various ubiquitous networking services are developed and implemented for easy living. In general, new ubiquitous networking services require the new infrastructure including equipments and devices. However, it is difficult to replace existing infrastructure and devices with new ones in the home or office because of cost and maintenance problems. In this paper, we developed small-size web based RF wireless communication systems for sensor network applications. The designed RF systems are implemented using commercial system on a chip (SoC) on existing infrastructure and devices. The developed systems are tested for light control and temperature sensing and they are applied to sensor network training courses for students and engineer as well as various practical applications.

  • We propose and develop Home Security robot system based on Sensor Network (HSSN) configured by sensor nodes including radio frequency (RF), ultrasonic, temperature, light and sound sensors. Our system can acknowledge security alarm events that are acquired by sensor nodes and relayed in the hop-by-hop transmission way. There are sensor network, Home Security Mobile Robot (HSMR) and Home Server(HS) in this system. In the experimental results of this system, we presented that our system has more enhanced performance of response to emergency context and more speedy and accurate path planning to target position for arriving an alarm zone with obstacle avoidance and acquiring the context-aware information.

  • Purpose: The rapid change to an aging society generates an increase in the incidence of chronic diseases. Many chronic patients have been facing their illnesses without enough preparation. In order to solve these problems, we designed and tested a public healthcare service based on ubiquitous technology. Method: Telemedicine has emerged as new medical care system of chronic disease. However, public potential of its technology is difficult to know under current traditional health care system. In this work, we developed a Personal Digital Access (PDA) phone based healthcare system by trained visiting nurses for elderly patients. A field test was performed by SeongBuk Public Health Center in Seoul, Republic of Korea (ROK). Result: Surveys were generated to assess the effects of this system compared to conventional public health system. Findings of trials demonstrate that healthcare coordination enhanced by PDA phone technology is satisfactory to the patients and nurses compared to previous one because prompt responses arouse their recognition of health. Conclusion: Ubiquitous healthcare system applied to public health service proved to be efficient and time-saving to monitor and control the chronic illnesses of large population.

  • In this paper, Ubiquitous Home Mess-Cleanup Robot(UHMR), which has a practical function of the automatic mess-cleanup, is developed. The vacuum-cleaner had made the burden of house chore lighten but the operation labour of a vacuum-cleaner had been so severe. Recently, the cleaning robot was producted to perfectly solve the cleaning labour of a house but it also was not successful because it still had a problem of mess-cleaning, which was the clean-up of big trash and the arrangement of newspapers, clothes, etc. The cleaning robot is to just vacuum dust and small trash but has no function to arrange and take away before the automatic vacuum-cleaning. For this reason, the market for the cleaning robot is not yet built up. So, we need a design method and technological algorithm of new automatic machine to solve the problem of mess-cleanup in house. It needs functions of agile automatic navigation, novel manipulation system for mess-cleanup. The automatic navigation system has to be controlled for the full scanning of living room, to recognize the absolute position and orientation of tile self, the precise tracking of the desired path, and to distinguish the mess object to clean-up from obstacle object to just avoid. The manipulate,, which is not needed in the vacuum-cleaning robot, must have the functions, how to distinguish big trash to clean from mess objects to arrange, how to grasp in according to the form of mess objects, how to move to the destination in according to mess objects and arrange them. We use the RFID system to solve the problems in this paper and propose the reading algorithm of RFID tags installed in indoor objects and environments. Then, it should be an intelligent system so that the mess cleaning task can be autonomously performed in a wide variety of situations and environments. It needs to also has the entertainment functions for the good communication between the human and UHMR. Finally, the good performance of the designed UHMR is confirmed through the results of the mess clean-up and arrangement.

  • Middleware enables different networking devices and protocols to inter-operate in ubiquitous home network environments. The UPnP(Universal Plug and Play) middleware, which runs on a PC and is based on the IPv4 protocol, has attracted much interest in the field of home network research since it has versatility. The UPnP, however, cannot be easily accessed via the public Internet since the UPnP devices that provide services and the Control Points that control the devices are configured with non-routable local private or Auto IP networks. The critical question is how to access UPnP network via the public Internet. The purpose of this study is to deal with the non-routability problem in local private and Auto IP networks by improving the conventional Control Point used in UPnP middleware-based home networks. For this purpose, this paper proposes an improved Control Point for accessing and controlling the home network from remote sites via the public Internet, by adding a web server to the conventional Control Point. The improved Control Point is implemented in an embedded GNU/Linux system running on an ARM9 platform.

  • Recently emphasizing the importance of security such as national major institutions' facilities or major industrial facilities for the maintenance of security/crime prevention due to specialization of the Green Information Technology(G-IT) and Green Ubiquitous Technology(G-UT) industry fields, The Security System Building linked high technology within the government-related organization, enterprise and army the military is urgently required. This paper is about the green USN intelligent an unmanned guard MUX system that receive the signals, from alarm device within surveillance area, with various ways of communication techniques and then transmit to local control center and remote control server trough TCP/IP network. This study enables the mutual senergy effect by realizing a total solution of an unmanned guard system and also significantly contributes to the global/domestic market expansion. That can be applied to the crime prevention/security fields in the Green Ubiquitous Environment Implemented Business(survalance-Home, Gu-City, Gu-Health, etc.), and will contribute to expand companies with international competitiveness that can provide the Green Ubiquitous Vision(Gu-Vision).

  • Home automation system is a demo which is capable of remote monitoring and control on PDA device (which was) programming used by LabVIEW PDA module in embedded system. Every operation program is composed of LabVIEW. And each embedded system is made of self-operating mode without any wiring of PC. This home automation system is controlled by LabVIEW of PDA through Wireless LAN(802.11b).
