Organizational Factors of the Successful Adoption in User-Centered Design

  • Purpose - This study is to integrate organizational factors into UCD process. For this research purpose, we investigated the organizational factors which influence people behaviors in the context of user-centred design practice(UCP). And this study presents organizational culture, organizational learning and change management as the organizational factors. Especially, this study is to investigate how change management influences the relationship between the organizational culture/learning and UCD performance. Research design, data, and methodology - Using the survey methodology with a questionnaire, this study distributed the questionnaire to the experienced 112 practitioners of user-centred design practice in 52 Korean small and medium companies. The organizations differed in range and size from medium-scale, which is under 100 of employees, and to small-scale, which is from 100 to 500. Results - Organizational culture and organizational learning have positive effects on user-centred design practice performance as expected. And change management strengthens the positive relationship between organizational learning and user-centred design practice performance but has no effect on the relationship between organizational culture and user-centred design practice performance. Conclusions - This is the first empirical study of investigating and demonstrating some key organizational factors' relationships and UCD performance of an organization, which will support to institutionalize UCD within an organization, providing theoretical foundations.

  • The purposes of this study are to examine the factors influencing the user satisfaction of knowledge management system(KMS) and the influence of the user satisfaction on the performance, and to search the strategies for effective KMS operating. The results of covariance structural analyses indicate that the factors-knowledge quality and KMS quality significantly influence the user satisfaction. User satisfaction also significantly affects the performance. Based on the results, this study discusses the potential implications for the strategies of KMS implementing to improve the user satisfaction and performance.

A Study of User Satisfaction of Contract Foodservice Information Systems (위탁급식업체 정보시스템 사용자 만족도에 관한 연구)

  • User satisfaction is the most critical criteria in measuring information systems success or failure. In this study, Contract Foodservice Information Systems were evaluated with user satisfaction instrument based on previous work. A total of 70 Contract Foodservice Information Systems users was surveyed. The status of building area of Contract Foodservice Information Systems was more in foodservice management (M=3.74), but less in producing (M=2.53) and pruchasing (M=3.02) management. The users recognized .accuracy of information (M=4.27), lasting educational services on systems (M=4.34) and increasing work productivity (M=4.42) as the most important factors and they also recognized it was important factors to build systems such area database management, menu management, purchasing and producing management and foodservice management (p<.01.).

Effect of Information Quality of Standard Menu on User's Satisfaction and Performance in ERP System of Contract Foodservice Management Company (위탁급식 전문업체의 ERP 시스템에서 표준메뉴 정보품질이 사용자 만족도 및 업무성과에 미치는 영향)

  • The purposes of this study were 1) to analyze the effect of the information quality of standard menu system of ERP on the user’s satisfaction 2) to analyze the effect of the information quality of standard menu system of ERP on the user’s performance. The questionnaires were distributed to 260 end users(dietitians, foodservice management managers) in charge of managing the institutional foodservice such as the office(government agencies, factories), schools(universities, middle and high school) and hospitals which were managed by contract foodservice management company “C” in Seoul and Kyunggi. The surveys were performed from July 26 to July 30, 2004. Two hundred and fifty questionnaires were responded(response rate : 96.2%). The statistical analysis was conducted by using SPSS Win(11.5). And the descriptive analysis, factor analysis, reliability test, pearson correlation and simple regression analysis were performed. The results showed that the information quality of standard menu system of ERP have a significant positive effect on the user’s satisfaction(p<0.001) and user’s performance(p<0.001). When constructing standard menu system on ERP in the contract foodservice management company, the information quality of standard menu system of ERP should be guaranteed in order to satisfy the end-user and to improve the user’s performance.

  • With the spread of the various mobile devices, the studies on the learning management system based on the u-learning are actively proceeding. The u-learning-based learning management system is very convenient in that there are no restrictions on the various access devices as well as the access time and place. However, the judgments on the authentication for the user and whether learning is focused on are difficult. In this paper, the voice and user face capture interface rather than the common user event oriented interface was applied to the learning management system. When a user is accessing the learning management system, user's registered password is input and login as voice, and the user's learning attitude is judged through the response utterance of simple words during the process of learning through contents. As a result of evaluating the proposed learning management system, the user's learning achievement and concentration were improved, thus enabling the manager to monitor the user's abnormal learning attitude.

Effect of the ERP Quality on the Performance and Causal-Effect Analysis between Outcome Variables in the Contract Foodservice Management Company (위탁급식 전문업체 전사적자원관리(ERP) 품질이 업무 성과에 미치는 영향과 업무 성과 변수 간 인과관계 분석)

  • The purposes of this study were 1) to analyze the effect of the ERP quality (system quality, information quality, service quality) on the performance (end user satisfaction, user's performance, system utilization) of business, 2) to conduct the causal-effect analysis between outcome variables (user's satisfaction, user's performance, system utilization) of ERP in the contract foodservice management company. The questionnaires were distributed to 260 end users (dietitians, foodservice management managers) in charge of managing the institutional foodservice such as the office (government agencies, factories), schools (universities, middle and high school) and hospitals which were managed by contract foodservice management company 'C' in Seoul and Kyunggi. The surveys were performed from July 26, 2004 to July 30. 2004. Two hundred and fifty (250) questionnaires were responded (response rate: 96.2%). The statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS Win (11.5). And the descriptive analysis, factor analysis, reliability test, pearson correlation, simple and multiple regression analysis were performed. The results showed that among the 3 factors (system quality, information quality, service quality), the system quality and information quality were proved to have an effect on the user's satisfaction and user's performance significantly (p < .05). The influence of ERP quality (system quality, information quality, service quality) on system utilization were testified to be statistically significant (p < .05). The user's performance were affected significantly by system utilization (p < 0.001) and end user's satisfaction (p < 0.001). As a conclusion, to improve user satisfaction, which is the ultimate performance variable of an ERP system, high quality of an ERP system is the pre-requisite. And the user satisfaction and performance of business would be higher with the better quality ERP system. When constructing ERP system for the contract foodservice management company, we should improve system utilization and user satisfaction altogether so that user's performance could be ultimately enhanced and we should make efforts to enhance the quality level of ERP.   • Understanding the antecedents of high public usage of national R&D facilities is a critical issue for both academics and facility managers. Previous researchrelated to general service management has identified service quality and user satisfaction as important antecedents of reuse and recommendation intention. The current paper reports findings from a survey which looked into the impact of service quality dimensions and user satisfaction on reuse and recommendation intention in the field of R&D facility public usage. Findings indicate that service quality appears to be linked to user satisfaction, and user satisfaction to be linked to reuse and recommendation intention. Findings also indicate that user satisfaction played as a mediator on the relationship between service quality and reuse/recommendation intentions in R&D facility public usage domain.

Management Technology of Profiles for Providing Adapted Contents to an User in the Ubiquitous Environment (유비쿼터스 환경에서 사용자에게 적응화된 콘텐츠 제공을 위한 프로파일 관리 기술)

  • In this paper, we propose the techniques for effective management of profiles that necessary to provide adaptation content to an user. The profiles must be configured the related information of the user and can be exchanged according to periodic/aperiodic or event among user device, profile repository, contents adaptation server and contents storage server for providing adaptation content to an user. The profiles also must be supplied the contents services providers that need profiles for the adapted contents services. To support those function, we propose the management technologies of profiles and design profile framework supporting those. The proposed management framework of profiles is supported the profiles that are configurated using the various user's information and is used the Web Services for exchanging and providing regardless of the various devices and platform. The dynamic configuration method, metadata configuration method, and profiles providing methods using weight for effective management in the framework also are applied. The result of evaluation the proposed management techniques show effective profiles processing.

Impacts of Low User and Project Management Risk on IT Project of Public Sector: The Moderating Effect of User Knowledge (사용자 및 프로젝트 관리 위험 감소가 공공부문 IT 프로젝트 성과에 미치는 영향 : 사용자 지식의 조절효과)

  • We tried to do research on main views(risk and knowledge-based) and propose user knowledge as a factor to be managed in order to strengthen the performance. This study empirically analyzed the user-related and project management risk that affect the IT project performance, and verified user knowledge as a moderating variable. The survey was conducted for respondents who have experience on IT Project of public sector and data were analyzed by Smart PLS 3.0. The results show that low user-related and project management risks have a positive effect on performance. In addition, user knowledge has been shown to enhance the impact of two risks on performance. These findings are meaningful in that they emphasize the importance of user knowledge in public-sector IT projects, as well as the repeated verification of integrated research results.

  • In order to manage organizational knowledge efficiently, Knowledge Management System(KMS) is considered as mandatory. This study aims at developing a KMS performance model to predict user satisfaction as well as KMS usage, considering the unique features of KMS. By analyzing 261 surveys with LISREL, we found that community of practice(CoP) characteristics - participation and interactivity among users - significantly affects KMS user satisfaction. This implies that the development of KMS should focus on facilitating users' interactivity and participations such as CoP activity, which differs from the general information system context. We also found that KMS usage is influenced by CoP interactivity, not by CoP participation, and that KMS usage as well as user satisfaction leads to user performance. Interpretations and implications of the findings are discussed.
