A Study on the Usability of the OTT Service's Mobile App UI Design - Focused on Users in Their 20s - (OTT 서비스의 모바일 앱 UI 디자인 사용성 연구 - 20대 사용자를 중심으로 -)

  • The number of domestic users of OTT services is gradually increasing, and users can consume content more freely through OTT services that can consume content in various ways unlike existing broadcasting systems. As the service utilization rate increases and consumption patterns diversify, useful and convenient UI design and usability should be considered from the user's point of view, but research on the app UI design of OTT service is still insufficient. Therefore, in this study, UI design components were compared and analyzed for the top five mobile apps in Korea's OTT platform utilization rate, and usability evaluation was conducted through surveys and in-depth interviews with 10 people in their 20s. Based on the analysis results, the direction of improvement of OTT service mobile apps in the future was presented, and the results of this study are expected to be used as basic data for improving UI design and usability of OTT mobile apps in the future.

  • The object of this study is to offer domestic and overseas travel informations efficiently for domestic tourists growing far beyond 15 million even now through user centered interface more convenient and accurate. In a method of research, 100 people were surveyed after recasting of evaluation questionnaire about UI design using 5-point Likert and nominal scale and additionally, the in-depth interviews were given to 10 people who use travel application frequently. In consequence, this interview revealed where users feel convenience and difficulty and want improvement of usability, information accuracy, etc. Finally, this study has a meaning to suggest new UI prototypes and various guideline about additional UI design on the basis of surveyed parts.

A Study on the Special Characters as UX/UI Icon Design Elements (UX/UI 아이콘 디자인 요소로서 특수 문자 체계 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to organize the system of special characters as UX/UI icon design elements, thus laying the groundwork for improvement direction for unclear use regulations. This study examines the theoretical background of UX/UI design and special characters and discovers UX/UI design and special characters' relations and assignments. Besides, the case study summarizes the system of special characters being utilized in the company's UX/UI icon design guidelines to produce the study results. As a result of the analysis, the special character types being utilized in UX/UI were graphic characters, mathematical symbols, punctuation marks, and parentheses. And the special characters commonly used in analysis cases, iOS, Android, and Windows, are ▶, ♥, ★, ○, ⊙, +, ×, ⋯. So this study organizes the common characters to standardize them. Hopefully, this study contributes to increasing the interest in the study of 'special characters' in the UX/UI design field and helps establish a framework for future industrial standards.

A Study on the Improvement of UI Design for Online Craft Learning Platform (온라인 공예 학습 플랫폼 UI디자인 개선 방향 연구)

  • Recently, as a culture that values work-life balance has become more important in society as a whole, interest in hobbies and leisure activities that will enrich life is increasing. This phenomenon is due to an increase in platforms where people can enjoy and learn hobbies online. Among them, craft-related content is growing rapidly, and as offline education has been brought online, learning immersion has been reduced online. Therefore, in this study, we want to identify current problems in online and offline craft learning and seek ways to improve UI design to solve them. To this end, we conducted a literature survey on the online learning platform, online craft learning platform and UI design, and based on this, conducted case investigation and analysis to derive the third stage of the learning process of the online craft learning platform. Subsequent surveys showed that as a result, the online craft learning platform was able to find improvements in terms of differentiating the content exploration process, visualizing the craft progress stage, ease of working with video tools, and providing smooth feedback, and in addition to the need for a device for active learning. Through the results of this study, we hope to expand the craft content market by making it easier for users to enjoy the contents provided on the online craft learning platform.

A Study on the UI Design of Stick-type Intergrated Remote Controller for Domestic Use (가정용 스틱형 통합리모콘의 UI 디자인 연구)

  • The study aims to design an integrated remote controller, which is an increasingly essential device in the home, for more convenient use. For this purpose, an alternative user interface (UI) design was developed by applying the user interface system of a popular existing product to an integrated remote control highly usable and easy to learn for domestic use, and the usability was evaluated. For the existing popular product, a cellular phone was selected, the operation method of which is similar to the stick-type integrated remote control for which the user interface design was to be developed in this research. Common characteristics of the UI of the selected cellular phone were derived and the characteristics were applied as much as possible to the design of a stick-type integrated remote control. The prototype of the alternative design, which was simulated with Flash, went through two pilot tests for further improvement before making the final experimental prototype. Based on the results, prototype buttons that improved the feeling of use in terms of physical operation and feedback were made, and the usability of the new UI design of a stick-type integrated remote control for domestic use were evaluated with 41 university students in their 20s. According to the results of the experiment, the newly designed stick-type integrated remote control based on the UI of an existing product may improve the usability of remote controls and the outcome of this study is expected to provide a good model for R&D of new UI designs of stick-type integrated remote controls for domestic use.

Analysis of User Interface (UI) Color Design of Children's Education Game (아동 교육용 게임의 사용자 인터페이스(UI) 색채 디자인 분석)

  • The learning and cognition of preschool children begins with the color of the object, and the game interface is the child's first impression of the game, so reasonable color design is needed. This article selects 10 educational mobile game for preschool children, extracts colors from the game interface and startup icons, and puts them into Photoshop to analyze the three elements of color hue, lightness, and saturation. Finally, three suggestions are put forward for the color design of game UI. 1.Choose a color similar to the actual color of the thing. 2. Choose warm colors according to your child's preferences. 3. When using contrasting colors, please reduce the brightness or purity of the colors. It is hoped that the research conclusions can provide reference materials for the color design of educational game UI for preschool children.

Yet, a range of adoption and expression has been segmented as a piece of information is diversified. Particularly, while this segmentized information can be integrated according to fields, it is hard for users to aware it at a glance. Therefore, this study aims to improve and analyze programs that have been developed in a variety of ways from the existing unified design of GUI as the UIs of the Internet and programs have become accentuated recently so that it could suggest the importance of user-oriented UI designs.

A Study on the User Analysis and Design Improvement Direction of Kiosks (국내 키오스크의 사용자 분석과 디자인 개선 방향에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to study the direction of improving kiosk design for convenient use by all users by increasing the usability of kiosks based on universal design principles. The direction of design improvement was studied by deriving essential improvements through additional surveys verifying the results of age-specific surveys and analysis related to the use of kiosks. The results of the study are as follows. High contrast between kiosk screen background and design elements, yellow color, and outline design elements increase readability. Then, reduce and enlarge the font based on 10pt. In addition, in consideration of wheelchair passengers, the area where the lower part cannot be designed and the minimum height of adjusting the height of the kiosk were derived. In the future, kiosk design requires a design and system that can diversify the functions of kiosks according to individual characteristics, and design should be focused on the application of universal design. Since this study has limited research subjects, further studies on various samples are required, and verification studies related to color and readability will also be conducted.

  • This paper shows the need to study the commercialized color book game screen composition and manipulation interface type in order to enhance the utilization of the serious game mobile coloring book game, which is utilized from the learning of color sense in modern people and children to the hobby life of adults or old people. For the healing of modern people, we are going to look at the design configuration of game screen interfaces in simple and fun mobile coloring book games, and propose a new way to improve interface design that improves uncomfortable design by organizing and analyzing basic interface UI design types.
